- Train Sim World 4 is here, and in this video we will be taking a look at the latest game in dovetail games train simulator series.
Today we are going to be looking at the highly anticipated LNER Azuma train and the East Coast Mainline Route. We will ride the rails between Doncaster and Grantham, and I will give you my views and opinions on the new route and train as we go along.

Agree with your comments Richard. I'm hoping that the reverb sounds in the tunnels will work on the older content as it would be a good aid for driving at night and in low visibility without the HUD. I'm looking forward to meeting the cat too.
would probably require manual implementation. Each change requires to be manually implemented to each older route if that makes sense
I hope the back page on the back of the Dove newspaper is called the Dove Tail. (Wondering if that was an easter egg, but can't see how they'd get it in there unless they have a diorama for people reading the paper).

I really like your critical view on stuff like the shadows not changing in the cab. It's one of the many small problems that should have been fixed ages ago.
Im a big fan of the free roam aspect, turns the game into a big virtual train set allowing you to play around with Class 08s shunting around at Doncaster etc, something ive wanted in this game for quite some time
I work for LNER and work with the Azuma there is a lot of sounds missing, the route it self is pretty spot on, it is mainly just sound that is a issue on my part also another thing that LNER as a company don’t like is the pantograph to be raised at the front of the set and only at the rear when travelling in the direction same as first class will always be at the front of the set heading in the direction of London and coach A facing the northbound towards EDB it’s little things that LNER like to be very particular about.

@@damianc.0.681 I am assigned NCL so a lot down to KGX along with doing up to EDB, NCL get to see a lot of the ECML Due to the location and it being a major crew change over station, I thought NCL may of been in the game NCL to YRK.
@@Chernobyl4oh that’s a awesome route to be doing, what’s your opinions on these new machines then? I think personally they are incredibly uncomfortable and broken but they look fancy from the exterior.
@@damianc.0.681 it is a good route especially from NCL to EDB that is really nice to do in the early hours of the morning seeing the sun rise over Berwick upon tweed really nice, my personal view on them they are cheap to maintain, they are sort of reliable up to a point they still have there own issues the seats aren’t designed for long distance travel I.E. people that do travel from London to Scotland they aren’t designed for that sort of travel they are good for commuter runs, I think this is why they are becoming the face of British railway because how cheap it is to maintain, they do have a very stylish look to them but have a lot of internal problems also that need to be ironed out they were rushed when built in Japan, great to work on those.
They didn't have access to the train running on the mainline only running at a depot. So most of the sounds are from Armstrong powerhouse. No idea where they got them from
I commute from Newark daily, there is not stop car marker there, only at the end of the platforms and halfway down platform 3 southbound. The station looks great i think. Quite surreal going over the bridge my brain goes into "its home time" mode
About the light in the tunnel, I did find a video recorded from the cab of the Azuma in that tunnel and with the lights on high, the tunnel was just as dark as it is in TSW4. I was surprised, too.
I drive the GWR 800/802s, switching from electric to diesel, and vice versa, just press either electric or diesel. The train automatically starts/shuts down the engines or raises and lowers the pan according.
Graphics looks amazing 👍 what sort of spec pc do you need to run a sim like this? I’m thinking of buying a pc soon & of course train sim is on my shopping list ! Any helpful input would be much appreciated!

11:21 was EXACTLY my reaction to the AWS. Its far too quiet in the new game
For me it is ok if I can just hear it. No need to make it very loud. I was once driving in a TSW 3 and talking to my friend not having a care in the world. Then suddenly the AWS went off very loudly. It scared the crap out of me and I thought that my ears were about to bleed
I can hardly hear AWS on PS5 - it comes out of the control and you have to really listen in to hear it!!!!
Am same I have found the AWS too quiet even turning my sound up still quiet
It does make it feel a bit like an easier version of PZB to me (as PZB doesn't warn you to when you need to acknowledge something). Presumably it was a yellow signal that triggered it. But yes, I hope that they fix the AWS volume soon.
What made is even harder to hear was the fact that the run sounds at the speed he was doing were the exact same pitch as the AWS horn, hence the difficulty hearing it outside and noticing it when he went back in the cab
The aws sound is too low. DTG have confirmed they're fixing it
@Dad Rail Regarding the stop marker you have turned on the screen to see the distance to stop - you may want to try change the settings of the HUD type from Minimal to Normal, and then in the game hit Ctrl+5 to Hide the big speedometer - this way the distance to stop is shown on top left and less impacting the realism by seeing the flag somewhere in front of the train (if you disable the remaining info located on top right HUD like distance to signal or speed change, and leaving just Track Monitor you are more-less on the similar HUD as in Minimal type)
A very helpful review. I've never played a TSW game before, would you recommend this particular game? I'd be playing on an Xbox One X. Cheers.
yep the 800 and the 802 are bi-modes. 801 is an EMU with emergency backup diesel engine on.
For me the game looks good does sound bit quiet though and real life never traveld beyond doncaster towards Peterborough I come from Newcastle the azuma in real life are nice trains but the seats are rock hard lol but looking forward to the game etc 😊
Does the ECML route use the old (former) tunnels into Kings Cross now (to Platform 0 and 1)
I've visited your channel as, after taking an Avant train in Spain recently, it rekindled my interest. Im assuming xbox version is out of the question, PC all the way? If so, i might be invested too much in xbox to justify the outlay for a mschine good enough to render this thing well enough.
I too am more about keeping active than long hauls between stations.

I've been wanting ECML route since the 1st TSW. Would be nice to get either Deltic or 225 DLC.
As an 802 driver for TPE I can concur that they're slow as heck in diesel mode!
The Zone numbers on the platforms would be nice
I'm hoping they do a mallard special edition, yes the flying Scotsmen did 100mph officially but the mallard holds the record for steam with 126mph

I've been to doncaster station many many times. And they didn't do the best job on it. The new and updated schedule boards aren't there which was shocking for me, and telling you which zone is which on the displays. And also the underground part where you go under the rails to change platform is also terrible. When I go its not very lit, and theres a lot more concrete haha. That was the most shocking part. But other things like it would be good if they were actually be able to use the name frenchgate instead of "frenchfence"
Great video and does this AI use the windshield wipers in the rain? In Antelope Valley they do not and is really annoying. Its a "new game"and this should be implemented across the board in all routes by now. 🤔
Wait so can you run with diesel and electric at the same time? Could be a workaround for a simulated bodged 800, LNER don’t have 802’s. They are the enhanced GWR ones as far as I know
It's a bug. You wouldn't run both at the same time. The 801 diesel engine is only for emergency shunting use.

I have the deluxe edition and it wont let me quick play or just drive it keeps taking me to training and im stuck dealing with the locomotive smh

I don't know what it is, but just about every train cab in TSW looks (for want of a better word) flat. It's clearly a computer graphic. If you look at some of the good planes in Microsoft Flight Sim, I at times have to look really closely to work out if it is a photo/video of a real plane or a computer image. It just feels so much more real. I can't quite put my finger on I what makes the difference
@DadRail I can’t post link, but if you look at TSW4 FAQ, DTG sort of explain the stutter issue blaming UE4. It feels odd to me as UE4 is pretty widely used. Anyway, the stutter is very annoying to me. It’s meant I didn’t purchase TSW3 and no plan to buy TSW4. It totally breaks any immersion for me. Can’t believe the issue has been there for yonks with no fix.

UE4 games get around this by precompiling commonly used shaders. I'm surprised DTG haven't done that during the loading screens

DTG do this because they can make all future content TSW4 exclusive meaning if you want new stuff you gotta buy TSW4.
They make money buy forcing you to buy a product you otherwise don't need.
Nothing else makes it any different from 3 they could of easily implemented free roam in 3
How is the frame rate for players on all platforms xbox leaves a little to be desired and is the free camera working properly for players in classic mode as it doesn't sprint/speed up when clicking the left stick

In TSW2 Bakerloo Line you would shut the doors and the signal would change
Here it couldn't change signal after closing the doors due to that overtaking train which occupied the track, that train cleared the next block at time 6:37 (as visible from top right track monitor). In fact as he is in Timetable mode and not in scenario (where events may be scripted), he could left the doors open till the train cleared the block, the signal would change to yellow and then he could close the door as required by procedures.

Love the video! Does anybody know if it’s normal if I have all the safety systems turned on, the train will emergency brake when standing still, turn the direction switch to neutral, put the DRA on when I am standing up? Seems not right to me to activate it when not driving the train and having it in neutral. Cheers
If your at a stand and the direction switch is in neutral it shouldn’t trigger an emergency brake application. Sometimes the door interlock is linked to the brakes so if the doors are open it may trigger a full brake application but this should clear as soon as you close the doors.
Can you use Cab controller on this ?
In real life when there’s a big gap between the train and the platform they need to bring the trains closer to the platform

Imagine if your train got delayed by five minutes just because someone forgot about the AWS and have to restart. Looks like free money for the passengers but the majority do not take it anyway as they are unaware that a delay means you can get some/all of the money back.
Where the Ads are on the Grantham Station Bridge should be Windows and also on the side of them, no doubt Grantham itself will be completely wrong, I am local to Grantham so I'll be critical
Critical is good, it’s the only way things get noticed and hopefully improved.
Many things have improved, such as volumetric fog. Try fog at night for a horrorshow.
I am however disappointed to see thst dtg still only give us the abridged and castrated versions of many of the trains and their functions. Such a lot of missing features in the driving computer. And no dual mode on the Azuma. The list goes on. I'd love to see some more features for immersion and for the experts to make it feel like a real train.

@@kristianstaalby8499 it still does have 1 emergency diesel engine. But it's not the 800 where it has multiple engines
I think that this door thing isn't so important because driver is not suppose to be walking around the train. I never open any door while driving a train.

why not build from kings cross? Made no sense other than it was easier in this space of time. Then they could have built onto this part like Southeastern to ashford.
If you look at an azuma only perspective there's more variety in pbo-don than kgx to pbo. Kgx to pbo would have mostly been a to b runs with some stopping at one station. Plus the section being complicated to model and release in time. The London cityscape and the number of stations were one of the limitations. Plus dtg didn't want to do another commuter style route which they've done many of if that makes sense.
I wonder how this will translate to the PS4 version
All these stuttering, shadow and lighting issues have been in since day 1 of TSW3. The stuttering has been there since TSW2. It really is off putting.

I just bought the deluxe version which I believe allows early play. I think disappointed would be a bit unfair but I do feel it could have been DLC for TSW3 for the most part. I guess from the devs point of view it's a sales thing, ok, so lets rename it TSW4 with a smart new poster with the new trains and gamers will fall for it, I certainly did. To be fair, apart from the usual stuttering I am enjoying it for the most part. Just not sure it's worthy of being called a new game. Just my opinion, no offence intended.

Stations look nice but theres too many trees around where a lot of it is open fields. This is especially noticeable on Gamston bank which is the long right hand curve after Retford, there shouldnt be any trees there.
Good to know. I expect as was the case with midland mainline we will get an unofficial mod to fix it.

From your gameplay it feels like another money grab from DTG rather than a new train simulator. It doesn't seem introduce anything new to the game except DLCs. Improved catenary? Well it does look good, but they could as well introduce it as a patch to TSW 2 or TSW 3 rather than asking people to spend £36 for a catenary patch. That is if this change works on other routes as well. I have a feeling that this is just route specific and when people will load their older DLCs the catenary will look as it used to in previous game versions. I hope I'm wrong on that assumption though.
Missing sounds is quite common issue with TSW. For some reason DTG doesn't seem to ever get that bit right, I'm not surprised there are shortcomings there.
As for headlights being too dimm. It is a very old issue. I believe the only time DTG got that somewhat right was on Neverken - Dresden route from Rush Hours series, though they doesn't seem to be keeping the quality consistent on that field. Lights in the tunnels never worked correctly and DTG doesn't seem to be able to fix it for some reason.
If they miss things like car markers on the platforms or if signalling equipment doesn't work as it is supposed to be, forcing players to use UI, it seems to me that DTG is leaning too much towards arcade approach. I hope they will fix those issues and ensure that people who would really like to put their skills to the test will be able to follow correct signage and signals to complete scenarios without any UI at all.
As for the route itself, well, I'm not impressed to be honest. As always, DTG is releasing high speed route with just a handfull of stations, the AI traffic is scarse making it look dead and empty and the route is quite short for a train that can travel at such high speeds. The 3D models look really good and the map has a lot of detail. I also like the touch with post service summary with more detailed score breakdown; that is a really nice touch.
Any core update you see is route and loco specific. It's only core to newer content. So tod4 lighting in tsw3 requires manual updating for every single route and train. Tsw4 features: every single route and train
Why the route doesnt go down to london is a bit strange to me but dtg are strange creatures
you can't have everything. But looking from an azuma perspective, pbo-don makes the most sense because you aren't just running azuma end to end nonstop; there is much more variety. kgx-pbo would have only been a to b runs with some stopping at one station. Also to consider the complex scenery coming out of london and the number of stations. It also feels like another commuter run route, which dtg didn't want to do another of when plenty appear in tsw. Maybe we will see it at some point or it is made in editor
They did look at the doing down to London. But that part is very complex . So for now they decided on this part so the train can stretch its legs . . Thats what they said anyway. .
I am sure there is the older dlc with a different train for kings cross to peterborough. Download that dlc and then make scenario with the new train and bingo… after your scenario finishes in peterborough switch to the new dlc :-)

Interesting meanderings, but I’m sure I’m not alone in watching this “review” to find out what YOU thought as an actual driver. As in marks out of 10. Not what other people think 😂 Is this actually any use to somebody wanting to be a train driver?
This is kinda unrealistic. 801’s diesel power is only supposed to be used for emergencies so it doesn’t make sense for them to be doing routes to and from Lincoln, Hull, Harrogate and Middlesbrough.
They're not though. It's a bug where it'll have both the diesel engine and electric power running at the same time.
As I've said on a number of content creator's streams, the micro-stutters are a travesty and an absolute immersion breaker.
With regards to an emergency brake application, the TMS would be sounding an alarm so loud a room full of 18 year old kids could mistake it for drill and be bouncing around punching the air to it.
Well just got round to watching this, going to check your other tsw 4 videos out soon. I pretty much checked out of it all after the announcement of 4, and after watching i still think its a load of money grabbing. Prevailing issues and no willing on dtgs begalf to fix legacy bugs has me done, ive loved playing this game since i found out about it but theres not a chance im ever buying any of their content ever again. Shame on dovetail.

Richard, i think you should stop mentioning future features. We all know DTG does not update their route and train features. It is misleading to new players.
I have only mentioned things that have been confirmed and things that I would like to see in the game. Hopefully they will deliver on there promises.

@@potatoman451 Of course... but i never mentioned players in general. My problem with DadRail and other influences portraying endless hope and trust in DTG in their videos is that their opinion influences many young people who are voulnerable to the nasty marketing tactics that are used by DTG. I think that influencers need to inform people sufficiently that content for TSW has rarely ever been updated with new features. That way people can make more informed decisions about buying the game, rather than giving away their money purely based on a hope of new content that will never come.

to be fair he's pretty honest about the faults here. as well as the good things.
