  • Skyhook Games, New Midland Mainline route for train sim world 3 has finally arrived!
In this video I drive the new Valenta 185 Class 43 HST On the Route between Leicester and Nottingham Railway Stations in the UK Midlands. As Always, Ill give you my honest thoughts and opinion on the train and the route, reviewing it in a fair and balanced way.
The New route features the HST as well as the cummings class 158, both in East Midlands Trains Livery. 37 Miles of track are modelled between Leicester, Nottingham and Derby. look out for landmarks en route such as the cooling towers and East Midlands Parkway.

It’s now $39.99 at least in the US. I’ve never seen any of these UK routes in person as I live in the US, but I love seeing these places in TSW! Would love to see them in person to see how close to real life these routes are and also because they are so beautiful in game. Maybe one day I will travel more, the only traveling I’ve done thus far has been during my military service. Thank you Richard for taking the time to do these videos! Whenever I’m thinking about buying a new DLC I watch your videos because yours are typically the best! I’ve also learned how to drive a train as realistically as possible because you tell us how it’s supposed to be done. Thanks again!

As someone who drives the route, I’ve got to say that there’s far, FAR too many trees!
Which seems odd, because that’s only going to obliterate your FPS. In reality, there’s a lot of open views across the countryside between Syston and East Midlands Parkway.
    - Why are all the colours so washed out by the brightness? Is the EV setting set high to standard?
    - Also, a lot of the buildings by the lineside are wrong, missing or don’t look correct at all, which is a bit annoying to see. They took a lot of time to get stations looking accurate, but it’s let down by the other buildings near the track. At Loughborough for example, the GCR bridge is completely wrong, most of Brush is missing, some of the housing by the station is missing as well, which is a real shame because one block of flats has a closeup image of Tornado’s wheels on the wall (and it’s easily visible from the platform). Station details are brilliant, but it seems to be lacking in other areas. There isn’t a gas tower opposite Mountsorrel either.
    - As for expansions, the easiest one to implement would be the three different routes to Chesterfield. You can get there from Derby, Toton and Nottingham. The Nottingham and Toton routes converge on the Erewash, but the Derby route only meets the Erewash at Clay across junction, then all proceed to Chesterfield and then on to Barrow Hill or Sheffield.
-The tunnel north of East Midlands Parkway is Redhills Fast / Slow by the way. They’re beautiful tunnels in person, very much like paired castles that you drive into.
    - There should also be A LOT of freight services. Especially round Leicester and Toton. There’s a massive amount of aggregate trains coming through this route at the moment, going from the Peak District and Mountsorrel southbound to Wellingborough and London, then there’s all the engineering trains from Toton, on top of all the container services from Felixstowe coming onto the route at Syston and heading across to Birmingham. There’s even the last regular coal services going into Ratcliffe.

The VP185 was launched in May 1993 as a successor to the Paxman Valenta so not a Valenta she screams on start up you wont forget the best engine they ever put in the class 43 x
    Artful

new sub here love the vids. Was surprised how much I played tsw2020 when i got it in a random sale. wasnever reall a train sim fan. Can now happily drive any train/ safety system in tsw3 with minimal hud. Love seeing a true train driver play it and show how it would be driven IRL. I take it all into my head and try to use the real life techniques in game. Love the content keep up the good work.

Fully agree with adding on to this, it's built for it..route looks good to me, I've used it for circa 40 yrs, I'm in a highrise just past Eastcroft (Colwick Crossing) this is a main freight route in from Immingham (Inc. Coal for Ratcliffe Power Station) good review 👍

As a fellow Hastonian that doesn't get to travel around much, I haven't seen a HST in person apart from people's images, however, I quite like the fact that the exterior panelling of the train is imperfect unlike in previous sims where it would show as a completely smooth, flat surface. The route is looking quite picturesque as well, they've put a lot of love into this.

The switches for the safety systems (DSD/AWS) on the HST are on the right hand side of the desk near the top, same as on the GWE HST if I remember correctly. Not played the game in a while 😆

You have the cab sway set to 100%. Move it to 200%, and you get more bounce.
(Although, it may cause some viewers to feel ill, so may be best to only use 200% for non video gameplay 🙂)

Can you do a video with a Class 150? Just in my Driver training and our core traction is a 150. If not, any class 150/1, 155 etc. Also a route up north if possible? Love the vids.

Thanks Richard. Class 43 looks good. Was worried about the gauges looking weird, but they looked nicer with the instrument lights on (not that I'm a real train driver so it may be 100% accurate).

Looking good. I live in Bingham, not far from Nottingham. I would love to see an extension to this route to go out to Skegness, so I can drive to and through my home station.

I like the look at this route. I used to live in Nottingham so I will buy this myself. I hope to see a Class 60 Pack and the Class 153, Class 156 and this route extended to Lincoln with the Newark Northgate branch that would allow for Newark to Lincoln services at the very least. I am optimistic about this. I left England in 2017 so I am not sure what it is like now but I know there was Class 60's on the Kingsbury to Lindsey Oil Trains by DB and Colnbrook to Lindsey by Colas. This was 2016/2017 though. Hope to relive these times in TSW3.

Back in BR days, approaching platforms using full service braking was standard practice. At east midlands parkway, step 5 of brakes at platform ramp roughly 45mph and then full brake release just over 10mph would have produced a nice smooth stop.

    • @DadRail
      @DadRail  Před rokem +1

Problem is in BR days, if the driver overshot it wasn’t a big deal. Get the passengers off and carry on. Now days if a driver overshoots a platform it’s classed as a safety of the line incident, and will result in the driver being taken off track, as such everyone is much more cautious.

A $30 dlc is not a dlc that’s an expansion. You can’t throw a $30 price tag on a game add on and call it dlc. Dlc is supposed to be affordable. Depends on what you get in this pack. It’s definitely an expansion not dlc. Dlc is cosmetics or one separate route or a train. But if there’s multiple things in this pack then 30 for an expansion yes. It’s like you have to really decide what” dlc” you want in this game, especially if they all cost $30

They need to stop giving you all old code to show off, the lack of sounds missing aspects issue with signals and a multitude of other issues turned me off meaning i'm waiting till the issues are resolved. it's is like buying a new car with no carpets, radio or spare tire and the company, saying oh we'll install them next week look jinggling shinny keys while saying "it runs and looks nice" however that next week never seems to come.
