But Morocco, on the other hand, has been an underdog in literally every match they played in this world cup. I mean most of the people predicted them to be the bottom ranked team of their group. Even if they win their Semi Final beating France, we would still consider Argentina or Croatia the favourites to win the World Cup. So Morocco winning would be just too big

The most surprising thing about this team is how good they are on the ball (considering how defensively they're set up). When they get possession, they don't just clear the ball away mindlessly, instead they're able to quickly and efficiently pass under pressure. Look at some of the buildup and the triangles and one/two touch passes they did to get out of Portugal's press. They can genuinely build out of the back, they're just very quick at it so they don't get much time on the ball.

Ziyech and Mazroui played together for years at a very competent Ajax (compared to the budget), and Hakimi at 22 already played for Real, Inter, Borussia and PSG. Combine that with possibly the most impressive goalie of the championship and there is some real talent in the underdog team. I didn't realize before your video, but Morocco and the Netherlands were using very similar tactics, where NL only really played counter from the defense until suddenly they were up against the first true football nation of their world cup journey in Argentina, and had to pursue goals. Meanwhile, Morocco drew against Croatia and then got through Belgium, Canada, Portugal and Spain with their only goal being received from Canada - their only opponent so far that is not considered a football powerhouse AND IT WAS AN OWN GOAL. The Moroccan team isn't just athletic or hard working, those are always labels used against less famous players but they are also incredibly talented and have excellent quality on the ball. Amrabat in midfield is so good at keeping the ball and moving it under pressure, Ounahi is brilliant running with the ball at his feet, and he always seems to choose the right pass which for a 19-yr old is a rare rare quality. Ziyech and Mazraoui are properly good technical players, they're brought up in Ajax. Hakimi's understanding of space and when to make an underlapping run and when to make an overlapping run is excellent. I could go on. They're just a properly good team, back to front. Good for them, I really hope they can go all the way. I'm not against any of the remaining teams, but Morocco winning the world cup would be absolutely phenomenal. If they don't do it, I hope Croatia do, just so we get a new name on the trophy lol.

I think some have said this already. Morocco typically play a very attacking style of football. With vey skilled wingers and midfielders especially in one on one and dribbling situations, and this is a team with lots of injuries too before the WC, they usually have a better bench than this even. It's a very technical team that usually plays posession football in Africa. So technically they do have the players to keep possesion and attack. Their biggest problem was always the lack of a good striker, so they were like spain, possession with lots of chances missed and then they concede a goal and it all crumbles. This year for the WC the coach decided you know what, let's change style, defense wins tournamenets, and it's time we do something, and he was under fire for it. But here we are discussing Morocco in a WC final.

I mean, the truth is that if Spain played like that they would be crucified by their own media for playing pessimistic football. Same for Brazil.
I hope Morocco do not win because I don't want to see more teams regress back to the low-block era of football. It is effective and sensible, and entirely boring to watch over and over again.
I get why they are doing it and it's served them well. But good heavens they had 26% possession against Portugal and 30% against Spain. It's not good for international football if they win honestly.

On paper France is the biggest counter to the way they play, because they have fast players that can run behind their defensive line and a classical no.9 that is physical in the box and is also very good header. I honestly believe they could have made it to the finals if they were on the other side of the bracket.

Seeing our history and how we like to play football I would never thought we would be ranking high with the lowest possession.
For people who don't follow Morocco we play against our traditional style we are considered the Brazil of Africa in how technical and attacking we tend to be.
So to totally flip that also because of key injuries before the tournament and for it to pay off is honestly mind-blowing and puts everything in perspective.
If we somehow combine the two play styles in the future this upcoming generation might actually win prizes especially in Africa.

Finally someone else sees it, as JJ explained Morocco overload to defend & with the majority of ARG's attacks coming down the right with the occasional switch from Messi out to the left, knowing what to expect will make it even easier.
Which is why ARG should start Alvarez up front with De Paul as the LAM & Messi as the RAM, pulling the strings behind Álvarez to also offer outlets to Paredes & Enzo whilst they worry about ball progression & defending.
This allows De Paul &/or Messi to be free between the lines or drop & receive either side of the midfield, diversifying where they attack from. Rather than the majority of their attacks being biased to & coming from the right.
Scaloni switching to a back 3 was a step in the right direction but they didn't take full advantage of Martínez being able to play as LCB/DM & switch systems mid game. To outnumber NED in midfield, which will be the key against CRO & bit of Messi magic is also welcome but let's not forget about tactics

I get really annoyed by some football fans in Germany saying that Morocco is playing "Anti-Football" and should not be so far in the tournament since they play so defensively. It's such a stupid idea, really. Football is about working together to put into action a strategy that can get you to win the match, using the right mix of passion and focus, technique and physis. That is exactly what Morocco have been doing very well so far.
And I don't even agree that their playing style is ugly or unentertaining. Boufal, Amrabat, Ounahi and Hakimi all played elegant football against Portugal. Ziyech is also a very technical and creative player, who against Portugal created a brilliant counter attack opportunity with a backheel trick. Just because they don't risk getting hammered by some of the best attackers in the world doesn't mean they don't play beautiful football. But some people only see beauty when it screams at them.
