As an owner of both I tell you that on the video side I always choose the Sigma, for lightness and quality it is perfect. in my case the viltrox is the perfect lens for night sports photography. They are two excellent products but the lightness of Sigma has its reason in APSC bodies. the viltrox has a more full frame weight

Viltrox 75mm is really tempting, but sigma 56mm portability is so cool, this lens is so tiny and sharp, probably will stay with sigma.
Wonder how much smaller viltrox could be if it was 1.4 instead of 1.2

Really appreciate you doing this. Was immensely in deciding between these two. Ended up going with 56 because the 75 just wasn't practical to get that far away from my purposes, but it looks like a great lens.

  • @szymon5075

Well, most of the photos was taken from the same distance, so difference in bokeh is more visible. I compared both lenses as well. If you get closer with 56mm (to achieve the same composition as with Viltrox) the smootheness of the background looks more similar. The main difference is that on 75mm background is a bit larger (so we see less background details and can focus more on model).
    Viltrox
+ for portraits that you care about the model and you want to have plain/less distracting background it is a bit nicer (Especially for closeup views)
+ autofocus works pretty fast to my no problem with it
    - It is pretty sharp but in my case side by side comparison sigma was sharper on every photo I took
    - focus distance is around 80-100cm which is not great if you wanna do photos of a product etc.
    Sigma
+ Very sharp, each photo I zoom in is razor sharp
+/- Background appears a bit smaller (because of the wider angle), bokeh rings were maybe 15% smaller but there were more of them which can be even more interesting in some cases - for the street photography, but if you shoot face, closed up portrait it might be a bit more distracting.
+ Size and weight is very compact and match well with APSC
    + 0.5m focus distance
Viltrox gives a bit more washed/less contrast background that makes the model stands out a bit more, which I really like. Probably by using 100mm this effect would be even stronger, bokeh rings bigger but actually hard to tell is it mean better. For portraits its amazing, but its not enough to call it better overall. I find Sigma alot more versatile.
You can shot amazing portraits as well, Its easier to shoot inside the building. You can put it to the pocket of your jacket and shoot with it everyday. Its warks better if you want to do a photos of a product.
I will keep shooting with both lenses and decide which one to sell (based more on is it convenient to shoot with 56mm or 75mm) but it will be Viltrox probably.

    @charlesjiang5243 Před rokem +3

I'm not fully understanding the appeal of a 75mm in the crop sensor world.. I always thought 85mm was the undisputed best focal length in Full Frame? I had a 85mm on my Full Frame DSLR and even then I was struggling to back up with enough space to take portraits especially indoors. Wouldn't 75mm push it out to more like 115mm? That means you would have to back up even further from your subject to get the frame

    • @Patrick-vi9xr
      @Patrick-vi9xr Před rokem

Yes, it would be 112,5mm and it will be difficult indoors to use, even 56m is difficult, for in doors I would pick simga 23mm or sigma 30mm, much easier.
75mm Viltrox would be great for weddings where you can't be too close most of the time and also outdoor sessions.

  • @lexbraxman9270

The size is negligible for me, once the camera/lens is in your hand, who really cares? Otherwise it will go in a bag. Get the best image quality lens, and its the Viltrox between these two. Plus the bokeh is more buttery on the Viltrox. The Sigma will always be legendary though but objectively the Viltrox is better.

As someone that frequently practices street and documentary style photography, compact sized gear and a small bag is high on my list of priorities. I usually only run with the Fuji 23mm f1.4 (35 equiv) and a speed boosted Nikon 85 f1.8 G, and sometimes I bring the Nikon 24 mm just in case I need something a little wider. I've been looking at the sigma 56 for its small size and excellent image quality, but this Viltrox although quite a bit larger is looking very tempting for the portrait lens.

The sigma 56mm f1.4 on MFT is equivalent to 112mm f2.8 on Full Frame. While the Viltrox 75mm f1.2 on APS-C is equivalent to 112mm f1.8. The angle of view will be similar but the Bokeh difference will be Night and Day.

I think at this point it's really nitpicking as both are superb lenses.
I prefer the sigma for the following reasons:
    1) Shorter minimum focusing distance.
    2) Better autofocus performance
    3) A fraction of the size of the Viltrox
For me, the slightly "better bokeh", which of course is subjective, and better colour rendition aren't worth compromising on the above 3 factors.

75mm does have nice focal length, but I like a bit more character in bokeh of Sigma, even flaring. Both are amazing.

Thank you for the video. Have to ask which firmware version did you have on the Viltrox? I just checked and looks like there is a 1.0.1 or even a 1.0.2 version now available or will be soon looking at the Fujifilm XF version. Can you tell us what version of firmware you had please. I currently have both and will be comparing them on the new A6700. By the way what firmware version are you using on your copy?

Indeed, sigma trio makes sony aps-c so attractive, especially sigma 56mm, for its size and weight is surprisingly great optically.
Without sigma sony aps-c probably would be a lot less popular, for sure I wouldn't be in sony e system.

Shorty I compared the Sigma 56mm 1.4 with the 18-300 of Tamron at taking portraits.
They are both very nice especially at daylight.
So I don't think the 75 mm is really necessary if you don't shoot in dark churches in a wedding or so.

    Good comparison!
Wanted to know if there are any updates on af performance after firmware update 1.0.4 in Nov 23 as people say that it was not reliable for fast moving subjects like birds, running pets, children, etc in the very first firmware?
I am in the market for buying one.
I currently have sigma 18-50 f2.8 for my a6700, looking to have a prime now-- confused between sigma 56 f1.4 and the this viltrox 75.
Performance wise 56 seems to be reliable.
Wether sealing, image quality wise viltrox seems better. Also this will add a bigger focal length for my use.

I’m always on the look for next lens to buy, I’ve always been very interested in the sigma 56 mm, great to see that they are all their options coming out.
At this point, I’m still more interested in the sigma because it’s cheaper, lighter and smaller than the viltrox. I already find my tamron lens heavy enough

I would've loved to see a 90mm f2, or a 105mm f2. Its missing and would really help round off the f2 i-series. I have the 105mm f1.4 and its huge, I love it but hate the bulk. I love the 65mm f2 though, its my favourite and the 35mm f1.2 and the 35mm f2, so I know what bulky and compact is like. Compact is always more fun to work or play with. As nice as f1.4 is, it becomes less fun.
