Looks a ton better. Thanks for the tips! One suggestion for the plastic removal. Bend and old butter nice tip at a 90 degree angle near the tip and you can just slide it along and pull out gently without putting any pressure on your roof. Thanks!

I have a 4runner in nautical blue which is waaay darker than I expected. Also matched color door handles and a minimum of silver trim. The most prominent may be the wheels alone. Almost looked black when I picked it up at the dealer during dusk. So I'm doing whatever I can to brighten it up with accents including clear anodized running boards, etc.. Different strokes for different folks. Agree on the thin gauge sheet metal gripe as well. I'd hazard a sizable tree acorn dropped from a fair distance above as I was driving last week and left a slightly perceptible dent in the roof if you know where to look. Dammit only 4 months old but the alternative is to keep it parked in a garage like a museum piece..

I completely agree with you on Toyota’s paint. I had a 97 4Runner that I ran pretty hard for 10 years. Not too much damage in that time. My 1 year old 4Runner already has about 6 nicks that go to metal. 1 damn year! It’s as if they downgraded their paint.

@ Blue TRD Jon When you remounted the rails, did you feel the need to add anything like LocTite, silicon for waterproofing, etc? My concern is that when removing the screws/rails, some adhesive will come off with it, and then get water leaked in after remounted. What are your thoughts please? Thanks! 👍

There is method without risking denting the roof. There is a break in the rear of plastic caps, stick a small pry tool and then using another pry tool to lift it up. This way you won’t be making any contact with the roof at all and risk denting. On the Gobi roof rack installation directions, it tells you to do this or you risk damaging the roof.

Question: When you get the rails off, do the front and rear end supports (where the bolts are) just slide out of the rails? I was thinking of just buying the OEM black roof rails, but am assuming I can keep the old end supports the rails attach to. Your video didn't show how to remove the end supports under the end caps, so I'm not sure if I can keep them or if I need to buy new ones with the new roof rails. Thanks for making this video.

DO NOT USE THAT AGGRESSIVE ANGLED HOOK PART OF THE REMOVAL TOOL..that doesnt even require much pressure for your to dent your roof...or you dohave to use more pressure put a small board over the miccrofiber cloth. #physics

@@TRDJon Up here in the cold northern waste lands of Massachusetts we have to remove the snow from the vehicles roof. The Toyota roof racks hold the snow on and it's hard to get it off. I recently bought a roof rack delete kit so I could take it off till spring. Anyways, I want to say thanks for showing me how the end caps come off. By the way I used a small brad puller to remove them. You can find them at any big box store in where they sell carpenter tools. Anyways THANKS for the video on rack removal and all the others also.
