I haven't received a single penny from Pelican. Doesn't matter to me honestly. I love that little boat and have caught thousands of fish out of it. I purchased the 100amp version and have my Minn Kota riptide 55T 42" trolling motor and my Lowrance GPS and boat lights. I've been out for many hours and have never brought it down to 50% remaining power yet, I've had my battery for 3 years now and never had an issue. sorry to say i first bought the version you have and didn't get enough hours out of it. I am over 300lbs. good luck Vance, keep us posted when it warms up there. I'm down here in nice weather in Florida, not to rub it in any, LOL

Ok, now I'm jealous. You one upped me again. I've been looking at doing the same kind of battery for my Pelican for the same reasons. I've got a lithium battery for my Garmin LiveScope portable unit and I LOVE it. Been thinking about getting the bigger one for the trolling motor. I've been using a plastic battery tray that has a Velcro strap that goes over the top of the battery. I think you can probably still use the wooden setup you have and just add a couple straps to keep it under control on the road. Good luck this spring. I know you can't wait to test it out.

I agree with Sam below about using the similar setup that you have currently but I too would be curious to know what others have done if it's different from yours. I think your going to enjoy the lighter weight battery. I know as I get older, I tend to like things that are lighter to carry. I can't wait to see the mod and how it works for you. Vance: Any feedback yet on whether the Dakota 54 is working for you and has sufficient power for your style of fishing? Congrats on the Dakota. I enjoyed the unboxing. Christmas all over again.
Well, I used it for the first time today. Today was my first trip out on the Pelican with the new battery. I am actually going to have to get some type of battery tester or monitor since the Dakota charger doesn't show percentage used or left etc. I fished today for about 2.5 hours. It moved me around great and I criss crossed across the lake several times and moved along the bank and rock lines as normal. I would say so far so good but I do need to get a tester or something like that. Thanks for watching and fish on!
Thanks, Vance. It sounds like the Dakota 54-amp hour will do fine. Would be interested in future updates about the new battery since so many of us rely on your input. I really appreciate that you post responses in such a timely manner.
Thanks for the kind words Steve B. I will say this much, if I ever get to the point where I don't respond, it's time to quit. Best part about this is getting to talk to other people that love Fishing. I'll definitely update the battery performance throughout the season.
