FISHING LAKE ARTHUR ON A PELICAN BASS RAIDER [SUMMER BASS]
I take the Pelican Bass Raider 10e out to Lake Arthur in Moraine State Park to try to hook some Summer Bass. I only used my Minn Kota electric motor to get around and it does just fine. Next Trip, I will bring my Honda 2.3 Motor to get to more spots. Checkout the video and let me know if you have any questions

I will definitely say hello if I see you out there. Enjoy that FB group. Thanks for watching and for taking time to comment. Fish on!
528 launch I fish it every now and then. Mostly at McDanels
Thanks for watching JJ. I haven't tried McDanels yet.
Nice video Vance. My dad and I fish Lake Arthur all the time. Fun watching you catching a few out there!
Thanks AveJoeOutdoors. I'm looking forward to learning and trying new spots. Appreciate you watching and for the comment. Fish on!
Great looking lake Vance more time on the water there will result in much better fishing days. Thanks for sharing
Thanks Jett. I know the bigger water is no stranger to you and your PBR. Next time, Honda motor time. Thanks for watching and fish on!
Nice video! Thx for the shout out!! #goodgirlfishing ❤
I've seen your post on Facebook I'll sub to your channel also.
You are welcome. Enjoyed your latest video out there. Fish on!
Im surprised you didn't bring the honda to that bigger body of water. It was a great excuse to bust it out lol.
I should have and will on the next trip there. Sometimes the dock situation can be not perfect for loading and unloading by myself with the Honda. Now that I have the lay of the land, it will be coming next trip for sure.
What size motor are you using and what battery
Minn kota 44lb. Dakota Lithium 12v54AH. Thanks for watching.
How much does that boat weigh? I’m trying to build one out of plywood of a similar size but think wood will be much heavier so don’t know if the technique in this video will work with it
I believe it weighs 150lbs.
Why did you use your bass boat less and less?
Only because it got to where my son went to college and I had a tough time getting the fiberglass heavy boat out of the water by myself. The PBR I use all the time since I fish alone the majority of the time. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching.
What battery do you use
Dakota Lithium. 12v 54 AH. Very light and works very well.
Ok thanks for the info
You're welcome. Thank you for watching. Have a great season.
The beauty of an air cooled outboard
Indeed
NO WEEDS?!!! sounds like a dream. Bass got to have that cover even with no weeds the bass will be hanging around something to get you snagged on lol
I actually prefer the weeds but you are correct, I have to be careful around the laydowns out there but seem to be getting them on the ledges this Summer. Thanks for watching and for the comment. Have a great season, hope you stop by again. Fish on!
Thank you, great video. Just curious... what is the marine battery you have used for?
For my tolling motor and Lowrance. Thanks for watching.
Love your videos great content, I’m thinking buying one of the pelicans to take my father out fishing I’m a bigger guy and he is as well our total weight together would total 450 but I plan on traveling light on gear, do you think the bass raider would be a good option for us
Thanks very much for watching. Yes, I love my Pelican and I'm a bigger guy. I often take my 6.3 200 lb son on my Pelican with all the gear and sometimes even a small cooler, utility table in middle. We have had more than 450 on that Pelican for close to ten years now without issue. I did get a lithium battery to help with weight but never an issue. Obviously I wouldn't recommend overloading any boat but to answer your question, I would say you will not have issues. Thanks again for watching and best of luck. If you have any questions, I'm happy to answer best I can. Fish on!
SPEED! Yea probably will not notice any speed difference at all. Even if you had a 100lb thrust. All because the motors are all the same RPM. (Or very close to the same RPM.) What you might notice is the acceleration up to that speed. What would be nice for the 55lb thrust. If you could get a different pitch prop. I am sure the 55lb thrust is barely being worked on your boat. I for sure don't know at this time. If a different pitch could be had from MinnKota. Maybe just take a heat gun. Warm up each prop fin and tweek it a little. Although you would need to do both fins fairly accurate. First do an Amperage draw test on original equipment. Find out the ratings for that model. If you are not up to max amp at full speed. Then you will know if you can tweek the prop. The Downfall! Playing with drawing more amps on the MinnKota's. Their electronics are a bit week in the shorts. Drawing max amps for very long. Will likely lead to failure of certain electronic parts. MinnKota will not replace parts on such manipulating the original operating parameters. So, it's truly at your own risk.
Thanks for the information Dave. Much appreciated.
@@fishingwithvance Also, if it is helpful. I was doing some research. It's best to just buy the C2 for as cheap as possible. Then when electronics crap out. Replace the power control unit with a remote 100amp peak controller. One can mount all motor speed and direction under or near the seat. Or maybe mount control switches on rudder control knob. Really wouldn't need tiller control except for tight turns. One could just cruse with rudder control. Everything could be chopped down low profile. Nearly nothing in the way. Also: With these PWM control units. The speed is variable. Not segmented into 5 positions. It's much smoother operating. As far as I know about these e-motors. One can buy any old motor from garage sale. Get rid of all the top control. These PWM should run any e-troller. Only with compatible amp draw ratings. czcams.com/video/NdA61Oh1OiM/video.html
That's a great idea. Just 2 or 3 degrees would make a huge difference. I wonder if heating the plastic prop would mess with it's temper.
@@mattdg1981 I would highly doubt that this is a type of plastic that even has temper. As far as I know and the way they look. They are just nothing more than injection molded part. Should be deformable with heat. Worst I can imagine will be a vibration if you don't get the pitch exactly. I just seen a video of people putting RC Airplane propellers on these electric drives. One big issue is that it wouldn't be a weedless setup then. If that even matters. But one great thing. RC propellers can be purchased in lots of different pitches. And they are only around $4 - $12. Hope this helps!
The Kota motors are great. I'm glad that weedless wedge has worked out so well. Looked like a great summer day to be catching fish! PB&J makes a successful appearance. Today (Saturday 6th) I had one of my sons, my daughter, her hubby and my wife out on the boat. Together we caught 6 trout. Had a blast. Thanks for sharing........ Fish on!!!
That's great. The new boat sounds pretty sweet to have the family on and enjoy some fishing. Great stuff DT. Thanks for watching. Fish on!
Makes me look forward to getting my boat. Christmas can't get here fast enough!
It will be great. Sounds like January will be Pelican Mod January for you Mark. Thanks for watching.
I use to catch a lot of fish on the double tail grub I'm going to dig out a ole bag I have in the garage see if I can Go Catch'em. Nice looking lake👍🏾
Thanks Jett. Those have been good for me for 30 years. Thanks for watching. Fish on!
Yeah I love going through my old baits and finding stuff I forgot I loved to fish with!
Quick question. When you directly mount something to your boat, like the fish finder holder for example, what kind of screws are you using? Do they hold in place over time or does the plastic on the boat give way or strip over time? Thanks!
I use lathe self tapping screws and some marine sealant. I have avoided putting holes in the boat opting for velcro tape or flex tape where possible. Sometimes it's unavoidable though for things like the Lowrance. I start the screws with a drill but then finish putting them in by hand being careful not to overtighten. Mine have not worked lose so far. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching. Fish on!
Thanks for the helpful answer! Appreciate your help.
You are welcome. Appreciate you watching. Fish on!
Timely video! Just got my trolling motor and got this prop to put on it. I will be using it on the bow transom. Glad to see it works well. My lakes have mostly light weeds so this should work perfectly for me.
That's great Mark. I was actually surprised at the difference. Moves the boat faster in open water too so that's a bonus. Good luck with your new motor. Have a great season. Fish on!
It's good to see a $20 investment works to an 85% satisfaction. I know I was impressed with how well it did in the SWAMP! When I had my 55lb thrust Kota in a medium weed lake, the motor quit working because I had weeds all tangled up inside the prop area. (I wish I had the weedless wedge) So I say yes to the "WEEDLESS WEDGE". Thanks for sharing..... Fish on!!!
No question the $20 was worth it. Hope fishing is going well for you in Retirement. Pretty slow for me for May and June. Not enough caught on any given trip to make a decent video. Thanks for watching DT. Fish on!
Do you think the weed wedge would do as good “pulling” forward as opposed to “pushing” forward? I reversed my head and put trolling motor on front of bass raider. Also is the weed wedge as bad in open water as it is in weeds when in reverse?
I may switch the head around on my 50lb Motor and then depending on where I'm fishing, select the motor accordingly. On the open water, reverse actually does really well on the Weed Wedge. Thanks for watching and the comment. Fish on!
I know my question is just looking for an (your) opinion at the moment. I switched my head unit on minn kota 55 so that I can mount it on front of bass raider and use it in “forward” operation. So my prop is “under” the boat when on front and I’m using forward operation of motor. With the prop/motor on front and prop “under” boat “pulling/pushing”” the boat across lake do you “think” it would still be as good for weedless operation with motor operating in forward mode? I use a rudder on back (until I get gas motor) to minimize side to side drifting of boat.
I'm not sure. I don't like fishing out the front since I don't have a rudder either. Some guys think I'm nuts for fishing out the back. Guess just used to it.
Although I'm disappointed also in the performance of the prop in reverse. It's truly amazing how it chopped it's way through all those weeds. Very impressive if I say so myself. Are you going to spin around the handle of your trolling motors now? So you can continue driving your boat in the direction you're comfortable with.
I can't decide. I might switch my 50 lb motor and sort of mix and match depending on where fishing. Thanks for watching Jett. Go catch em!
The swamp is still producing quality fish. Your review of the weedless prop is going to be a good one.
Thanks Jett. The Wedge will be put to the ultimate test soon. I will document. Thanks for watching and Fish on!
I see that the swamp never fails to produce for you. Nice day of fishing....Fish on!!!
Love that spot. It's not for everyone fighting those weeds but it is fun. Thanks for watching DT. Fish on!
Nice relaxing video. Glad you caught some decent bass.
Thanks Wayn.
nice
Thanks
All of that just to catch a carp..no thank you😂
Did you ever catch one? They pull and fight like champs.
It cost 5$ not that crazy

They are super nice. Thanks for watching.

You have been doing a great job on your PIP chart I love fishing a buzz bait they catch giants. Onto the next lure on your list. Go Catch'em 👍🏾
I enjoyed getting the blowups and catching a couple. I will definitely use it again this season. The lure that eludes me is the frog. I have tried many times. I have hooked them, just not landed any. That one will be done for sure. Thanks for watching. Fish on!
So you can catch fish with different lures. I will need to give that a try because I can't catch fish with the same ol lures I always use. So far this spring..... 1 White Bass. Great video. I like the PIP Chart, that's cool. Fish on!!!
Sorry about your slow start to the season. I'm sure as the water warms you will be all over them DT. Thanks for watching. Fish on!
FISH ON !!!!
Fish on!
I love when a bass blows up on a buzz bait. .
Gotta admit, it was pretty fun.
I used to catch a few on one. Always really early in the morning
It was fun I'll admit. I'll keep throwing it as the season goes on. Thanks for watching. Fish on!
Another lure comes off the NEVER caught a fish with list on the PIP list. Fish on!
You can swivel it 180 degrees and swing back the throttle arm for reverse.
Agreed. I have found that to be a challenge when trying to bring the boat back to the dock. Thanks for watching. Fish on!
Nice job! Love the mods to the bass raider. Great catch on the baby bass fluke. I use it for stripers, nice to see largie action on it.
Those Baby bass dudes are so versatile don't you think? Can be fished in so many ways with different presentations. They just catch them ya know. Thanks for watching. Fish on and have a great season. Thanks for checking out the mods too.
As long as you're catching fish the way in which you go about doing it doesn't matter. My brother fishes backward also and it works for him. Great video the swamp is producing some really healthy bass this year.
Thanks Jett. Appreciate the support my friend. Go catch em!
When I had my 8ft Sun Dolphin, I also fished out of the back of the it. I used the reverse on the Kota a lot, just like you. So from my standpoint you fish normal. Nice looking Bass you caught. I like how the Bass jumped 3 times out of the water while hooked on the "Randy's". A lot of your bass today were a lil jumpy. It looks cool to see them jump out of the water but I know on your end, you are like don't jump and spit the hook.! Great video. Fish on!!!
Thanks DT. So I guess I'm not the only "insane" one. I really liked that underspin. I have to try that at other lakes less weedy and later in the season too. Swamp is spoiling me right now, I need to fish other spots but man, getting 6 or 8 of the 1.5 to 2.5 lbers sure is fun. Next vid, another lure off the PIP has fallen and only two to go on the NEVER CAUGHT list. Thanks as always for watching. Fish on DT.
I had about an hour today so I went to the local lake and tossed a white tail curly grub and caught a white bass. Fish on!!!
@@duanetaylor1526 Nice! Have you been able to get out on the boat?
@@fishingwithvance Yes I’ve taken the boat out to 3 different lakes in the area but the water temps have been in the 40’s and I don’t have down riggers yet to get deep enough for the trout. This month we should see a turn in temps and fishing will get better. 👍Fish on!!!
Its a Randy's!
Randy's for the win.
Awesome brother
PIP is on !
Any man can't look another man in the hairy eyeball and call him insane ain't much of a man now is he
love it great stuff brother
Thanks my man. Time to get out soon.
I been trying to draw up a lil table design for my PBR mainly for when I start fishing for panfish. Solid mods Vance,👍🏾
Honestly, the best ones we have built are the ones on seat brackets. Strongest and most stable. IMO. Thanks for watching Jett. Fish on in SC my friend.
Also, picked up those gloves. Thanks for info. They seem pretty jice.
Great update on the Mods. You answered all my questions from the last video. Have you already reinforced the table? I do like the size and how you have more room underneath the table. Hopefully the table works out without too much added weight. You’re definitely lighter with the lith battery instead of a marine battery. Looking forward to the upcoming fishing videos. Thanks for sharing. Fish on!!!
Haven't worked on the table yet. Focused on fishing now. Thanks for watching DT. Fish on!
Yeah, KastKings reels suck the only products from them that I actually liked were their Kong rods and their tripolymer fishing line but that's all I can really truly recommend from them.
I won't be buying any more of them for sure. Appreciate the feedback and thanks for watching.
@@fishingwithvance that's fine, everyone has their preference I was just sharing my experience with their products personally.
Way to go catching some fish. I hope to get back out on the water soon.
Thanks Wayn. Hope you are well and able to get out there soon.
Oh wow the swamp is on fire 🔥 using the spinnerbait was an excellent choice. Great job Vance !
Thanks Jett. Can't wait to get back out there. Great time of year to be fishin. Go catch em
