If you all want to know how important this crap is take it from me. I had mold forward head posture. Thought it’s not that bad. Did some stretches here and there.
Over the last year I’ve had major swallowing issues. Felt like my swallow was extremely week. Ended up going from 30 minutes to an hour to eat meals. Finally got tons of test done of course, we’re talking endoscope, ENT, beruim swallows and all! Nothing was found.
But I told my GP I’m telling you my swallows weak. I can’t swallow.
    Didn’t listen.
Went to a chiropractor, explained my symptoms to him. I said it doesn’t feel like stuffs getting stuck it feels like I have a weak swallow. He told me to lift my neck and couldn’t believe how my GP didn’t even jot an eye. The amount of tension in my front neck was intense! He then explained the entire mechanics, the bones and muscle involved etc etc etc.
Anyways actually taught me all these neck stretches and also performed some trigger point releasing ones around the bone above my Adam’s apple (he specifically said don’t do these myself so I won’t be explaining them)
Fast forward a couple months I can almost swallow normally again.
My TMJ took a beating due to the over chewing I had to do.
To have an idea, that final neck stretch where you look down in this video, I move my head about 10% what I should be able too and the entire muscle lights up.
Some key things I’d like to point out which aren’t said in the video.
    1. MAKE SURE YOU KEEP YOUR SHOULDERS DOWN WHEN DOING THESE.
I found by default I kept brining them up
    2. You’re working on a problem. The biggest mistake I did was let my pain tolerance determine my stretch. Baddddddddd idea. Only go until you feel the stretch. Then keep working further as you get better. Don’t go as far as you can if you can handle it.
    3. Posture awareness is key afterwards. Even if you do these 8 times a day. You need to be mindful of proper posture.
Personally I bought a posture vest. I’d wear it for 20 minutes in the morning just to engrave in my brain “this is the position”. As I feel a lot of people don’t understand the position.
To simply put it. You should be able to draw a straight line from your ears, to your shoulders, to your hips.
Your hips if you imagine a bucket of water, not a drop should spill out
Honestly I find forward head-posture needs way more attention and PSA then it has.
I was having breathing issues and all. But again mine didn’t even look that bad. I’ve seen WAAAAYYYYYY worse. But looks don’t matter. It was all about the tension in my muscles housing some very important parts of the body.

I'm sure you can't remember everyone that thanks you very much for these free and awesome physical therapy video's.
As I told you a short time ago these simple and easy procedures that can easily be done anywhere and any place has definitely changed my posture and stopped me from going to the physical therapist three times a week and paying alot of money for something that wasn't actually doing as much as your videos have done for me.
I'm back now slow jogging and riding my bike and motorcycle without having to stop and walk around for a few minutes.
Not realizing how much it's actually doing for me until I was at family gathering this past April. Several of my family members noticed a difference but couldn't pin point it until we started looking at pictures from the year before. Not only did they say that I was taller but my posture looked much better and straighter.
I normally don't post anything but after watching and participating in your videos and feeling much better and able to illuminate my therapist completely I felt the need to stop and thank you for taking the time to post these miracle and life changing exercises.
    Thanks again.

What is the purpose of putting one hand on your chest when doing neck stretches. I've seen others do the same, however, some in some cases I see people, such as yourself, putting their right hand on their chest and tilting their head to their right shoulder. Then putting their left hand on their chest and tilting their head to the left shoulder. In other cases, I see people do the opposite - they put their right hand on the chest and then tilt their head to the left shoulder, and vice versa.
Just curious what is the significance of putting a hand on your chest when doing these exercises, and does it matter which hand?

If your bad posture is caused by leaning your head forward then imho these exercises are just fixing the consequence and if you stop doing them then your bad posture is going to return eventually. Am I right? Wouldn't it then be better to first resolve the cause (the leaning forward) by getting (stronger) glasses?

I've always seen videos on chin tuck where you slide your head back, and not tip the head down. Is sliding the head backward also a good chin tuck exercise, or don't you recommend it?

    • @PTProgress
      @PTProgress  Před rokem

It’s not a horrible way to do the chin tuck - sometimes I recommend performing it this way. But it can be more aggressive and cause a shearing force at the neck. That’s why I prefer the mid version bc it engages the intrinsic neck muscles with less shearing and is very effective.

    Hi Tim!
I’ve been watching and trying to do the exercises from your CZcams channel. I have a problem with my neck - I have an X-ray that I’d love to send you. I have a proposition! How about if you use me as sort of a subject and prescribe exercises? I know I’m not the only one with this neck issue with everyone (and their mothers) looking down at technology. You could use my X-rays as a before and after using your exercises. Just trying to find a creative way to fix my neck, if it’s even possible. I’m not sure. I’m a RN. I believe my neck problem has been from years of looking down at the bedside. Who knows though? If you’d like to see my X-ray, I’ll happily send it to you. Best! I tried to contact you on your website - my message wouldn’t submit when I clicked the button
