Is there a connection between lack of a gallbladder, gallstones, and insulin resistance?

  • Dr. Ben Bikman explains that while there’s no direct connection between a lack of a gallbladder and insulin resistance, the diet often associated with gallbladder issues plays a significant role.
    Gallstones form when bile stays in the gallbladder too long, leading to crystallization. This is commonly due to a low-fat diet, which doesn’t prompt the gallbladder to empty frequently.
    To avoid gallstones, regular consumption of fats is necessary. Those on low-fat diets often end up eating high-carb diets, which can contribute to insulin resistance. Therefore, the diet, rather than the lack of a gallbladder, is linked to insulin resistance.

    Yup, went through that 20 years ago. My gallbladder collapsed, became gangrenous and had to be removed. Now, today, I am eating a Keto diet and have no difficulty digesting the higher fat content. The constant bile drip into my stomach seems to be sufficient to take care of the beef, butter, bacon and eggs.😊

      Constant drip into the duodenum, I suppose. It's the part of the small intestines that receives chyme from the stomach.

    Yes! Gosh I wish I had seen this in 2017 or 2018. I had been having extreme pain that ultimately put me in the hospital in 2019. I came _very_ close to having my gallbladder removed. I had been religiously avoiding fat for several years. Now I'm enjoying a high-fat keto life and excellent health.

    This is exactly what happened to me. I almost died, as the doctors never diagnosed me properly, they said I had an ulcer, then it was gastritis and other things. I was in terrible pain and they did nothing for me, I went on holiday to America and I had pain like I have never had in my life. In hospital there, after four and a half hours of surgery, turns out the gallbladder had gone gangrenous and attached to my liver, the stone that came out (they had trouble getting it out) was the size of a duck's egg! Thanks UK doctors!
    I now am a total carnivore and have been for 2 years. Not losing weight as I am hypothyroid (Hashis) and have inflammatory issues, (Rickettsia) again I am just left to rot by the medical profession here.

    Not just low-fat diet but an oxalates-rich, sugar-rich plant-based low fat diet !!!
    Gallbladder stones are formed out of oxalates, uric acid and calcium.
    Eating sugar gives you high uric acid, eating vegetables high oxalates...

    Liver/gallbladder cleanses work! Dr Clark’s cleanse worked and I pooed out a full bag of stones. (In Ultrasound, we used to call it a packed bag). Felt so much better after that. I do the cleanse once a year, but I’m doing carni now, so that helps.

    When I was teaching a student brought me a vial of his mother’s gall stones. They actually looked like little green arrowheads, very pointy. This probably showed up after I told the students that they had rocks in their heads. The movements inside the inner ear are fascinating!

    I have seen this so many times - weight loss, especially sudden it seems (I'm guessing from severe calorie/fat restriction?) = gallstones. It's kind of a joke among doctors around here. Now we know why.

    If only we knew back in the ‘80’s what we know now. I’d have had a different life I think, but not worth rehashing that which you cannot change.

    Sir Ben Bikman!! Can u please explain if glucagon increase insulin so won’t a prolonged fasting stimulate glucagon and subsequent hyperinsulinemia. My fasting insulin came 21 after a 20 hour fast at afternoon. Should I repeat it after mere 8-10 hr fast and give a morning sample?

    Yep. Back in the 1980s I went on a very low fat diet (Diet Center) for several months. At Easter I had a couple of Cadbury creme eggs from my sons Easter Basket. I was in so much pain my mother called an ambulance. I ended up having my gallbladder removed because it was full of stones.

      Yeah, for month the stones were forming and all the sudden you ate eggs and the body tried to empty the gallbladder... ouch...

    Is it always because the gallbladder does not empty or could it be that the liver is creating bile that is to thick? Could one possibility for this be a compromised fatty liver?

    • @btudrus
      @btudrus Před 28 dny

      "Could one possibility for this be a compromised fatty liver?"
      I would bet that this rather is high serum uric acid, caused by eating sugar (which also causes fatty liver)...

    .please help I have no gallbladder and I am having high BP and Blood sugar no matter what I do I cannot seem to lower it. I am very scared I go to bed scared and get up feeling worried about my health. My body is in physical pain because I know my doctor will pressure me to take this or that medication that will do more harm than good to my body. Doctors dont look for the root cause they only push prescription drugs. I am doing the iketo diet with intermittent fasting 18/6 and eat low carb with high fat diet but I still not losing weight. What else can I do I walk a lot cannot do physical excercises because of pain in my body and legs from sciatica. Can you help me as to whats the root cause of this. Like whats happening with my body like the root cause of high BP and BSugar?

      @michellewelch6013 Před 28 dny +3

      Do fasting for 3 days at a time. 18/6 fasting wont necessarily cause weight loss and it wont give you a shift that results in metabolic healing. Eat low carb (20 grams or less) on eating days, and at least once or twice a week for 36-72 hours eat nothing, drink only drink water. See Jason Fungs book, Complete Book of Fasting.

      Looks like your best option is to eat a high fat carnivore zero carb diet for at least 90 days and if it works stay on zero carbs forever. Fast for 18 hours daily. Zero carb carnivore has eliminated 99% of my ailments. I am 70 y/o and I feel excellent take no Big Pharma products.

      Many keto foods are high in oxalates. Plant foods in general can be inflammatory. I would limit your diet to fatty red meat for awhile, eggs if you can tolerate them, and see if things improve. It can take 4 months or longer to begin to lose weight but your body composition will improve as you repair and build muscle (even without deliberate exercise) and you might lose a bit of weight then plateau as your body goes through a healing phase. This is normal.
