Ketones and Brain Health: New Study on Parkinson’s Disease, with Dr. Ben Bikman
Dr. Bikman highlights a recent study on the benefits of a ketogenic diet for brain disorders, specifically Parkinson’s Disease.
The study suggests that adhering to a ketogenic diet can slow the progression of Parkinson’s and even improve some symptoms. This is likely due to the protective effect of ketones on dopamine-producing neurons.
Dr. Bikman emphasizes that the brain thrives on ketones, but the standard Western diet’s high carbohydrate intake prevents sufficient ketone production.

Better Understanding LDL and VLDL with Dr. Ben Bikman
zhlédnutí 5KPřed 20 hodinami
In this short video, Dr. Bikman explains the role of cholesterol transporters in the blood, specifically focusing on LDL and VLDL. He clarifies that LDL is a transporter carrying cholesterol, triglycerides, and proteins, originating as VLDL from the liver. As VLDL moves through the blood, it becomes LDL. Contrary to common fears, Ben suggests that higher LDL with lower VLDL levels is associated...
New Study Suggests Allulose Can Improve Metabolic Health: with Dr. Ben Bikman

Dr. Ben Bikman shared the results of a new study from his lab that examined the effects of stevia and allulose on rats fed either a standard diet or a Western diet high in fat and sugar. Over 12 weeks, the Western diet rats consuming stevia gained the most weight, while those consuming allulose experienced significantly less weight gain, improved insulin sensitivity, better glucose tolerance, i...
Why Your Body Does Not Need Dietary Carbs: with Dr. Ben Bikman

Dr. Bikman explains a fundamental yet often misunderstood aspect of human nutrition: the concept of essential nutrients. He clarifies that while essential amino acids and fatty acids must be obtained through diet for health and survival, there are no essential carbohydrates. He underscores the importance of LDL in preventing severe infections like sepsis, offering a fres...
Energy Toxicity and Insulin Resistance with Dr. Ben Bikman

In this episode of The Metabolic Classroom, Dr. Bikman, a biomedical scientist and professor of cell biology, delves into the concept of energy toxicity. The primary idea is that when these cells accumulate excess...
Hunger Always Wins: The Flaw in “Eat Less, Exercise More” with Dr. Ben Bikman

Dr. Bikman draws a parallel between preparing for a buffet by eating less and exercising more to induce hunger and the conventional advice given for weight loss over the past decades. He argues that while this method might lead to short-term weight loss, it ultimately increases hunger, which is unsustainable and counterproductive. Instead, he emphasizes the importance of managing macronutrients...
Why MCT Oil Boosts Your Ketones: Dr. Bikman Explains

Insulin IQ community member, Pam asks why using MCT oil, which is not an exogenous ketone, still raises her ketone levels. Dr. Bikman explains that MCTs and shorter fats are absorbed directly into the bloodstream from the gut, bypassing the complex process longer fats undergo. Dr. Ben Bikman explains that while there’s no direct connection between a lack of a gallbladder and insulin resistance, the diet often associated with gallbladder issues plays a significant role. Liposuction has taken away all my pain and given me better flow in the lymfatic system. Operated in germany by a specialist. 2 ops and still after 6 years i am good. Seen a girl with severe anorexia and the lipedema was still there and she was only skin and bones otherwise (like someone blown her legs like ballons). Done ton of good diets and fat loss always stop when only lipedema is left. Even wrongly been operated a gbp and the same results. Eating good just made a marginal effect on pain for me, ops saved me from it. Cutting fast carbs helps better fore some and for some so little that op is still the solution. Dont forget we also need chlothes and shoes and if like me kive in a country that gas long winter it is so hard to dress a lipedema body. We have same needs as everyone else!

I agree we're getting more insulin resistant, BUT those "manmade carbs" & sugars or frequency of alcohol are actually depleting our B1 thiamin during krebbs cycle! Actually very common mimicking other diseases as the first article says. -"Hiding in Plain Sight: Modern Thiamine Deficiency" -"Sugar intake and thiamine" BY DERRICK LONSDALE MD, FACN, CNS -"Thiamin Deficiency (Beriberi; Vitamin B1 Deficiency)" By Larry E. Read " Nutrient Power" by Dr William Walsh. He studied schizophrenics , bipolar , adhd , depression, etc , and discovered a cluster of genetic, vit, mineral and protien deficiencies associated with mental health problems. His treatment was diet and specialized supplementation....no drugs. You should get yourself genetically tested to see if you have methylation issues from mthfr mutations or other snp's that may be causing issues. Over methylation or under methylation can cause serious brain issues. Dr Hoffer a Canadian psychiatrist would use high dose niacin and high dose glycine....like 60 grams per day to cure schitzo affective disorders. Glycine is crucial for modulating methylation and for damping down glutamate excitotoxicity in the brain. People with mthfr mutations often dump glycine so it needs to be topped up or the brain suffers. Your normal GP or Dr will probably not know this stuff. A strict ketogenic diet will reduce oxidative stress in the brain and increase mitochondria by 400% in 3 or 4 months. Exercise will increase mitochondria too and raise BDNF in the brain. Inflammarton in the glial cells often causes schitzo and other brain issues and dysrupts the glutamate / gaba system. Anything that reduces inflammation is beneficial for the brain. Keto is king for this but supplements help too. Omega 3's , curcumin, lions mane , NAC, choline ( egg yolk), and many other herbs and supplements are helpfull. They are easily sourced online and theres tons of research available. Keep searching...try supplements....but be carefull with b vitamins as certain people react badly to too much folate. You need to fine tune the B's but often they are crucial to fixing metabolic issues. Also...check to see if you have elevated homocystine or pyrole disorder. 8 % of people will have this disorder. It is genetic and brought on by stress. Its usually never tested for. Pyrole disorder results in higher kryptopyroles being made. They are a waste product of hemoglobin production and you just pee them out. However, higher levels will sap zinc and b 6 from the body. Zinc is crucial for all sorts of things including serotonin production. Its a simple urine test. You have to eliminate these potential causes as they might be exacerbating things or even causing health problems. Keep searching and trust you will find the solutions and health strategies you need.
