Trying out the Rust-Oleum Turbo Can…. Not Bad

- Thought I would try the "Turbo Can" from Rust-Oleum. What attracted me to the product was the wide spray pattern. This product worked great. The only issue i hade was that a lot of the paint came out fast. I had to learn quickly how to spray with this can. But, I had great results.

That coverage is insane for a spray can... looking good Buck
Yes a lot of paint flies out
Yep it did the trick 😁👍
@@BuckDOESITalways remember any spray can primer is lacquer based so it’s soluble and primers that use a activator is insoluble meaning you can take lacquer thinner on rag and wipe off the lacquer primer but not the 2k primer ok so it offers no rust protection just fyi
@@EricBynog-zd4rd thanks for the info I appreciate that
Highly recommend the gloss, then coming over with 2k clear 👌
Thanks for the tip!
Do you sand in between etc?
@@americandude3825 no, but I have seen others wet sand and buff after dry. Their’s looked great. I was just looking coverage and protection. I used 320 grit to prepare for paint, wiped it down with paint thinner.
@@americandude3825 light wet sand. Or you can still apply when it’s wet.
Does no one primer over before painting😭
Try putting the can in a bucket of warm-hot water for about 5min before spraying. This will help atomize the paint a little more, and you will get a noticably smoother appearance.
Cool, thanks for the info
Good advice especially in cold temperatures. So you the cost of this product o
I can vouch for that , I’ve done the warm water trick and it makes rustolium cans spray amazingly.
Damn quick coverage in a can is killer !
Sure is
@@BuckDOESIT
Maybe now the autobody shops have some new competition, right?
@@superdave1921 no competition from me lol… but the can … yes
When you spray paint, you need to start spraying Wide or outside of the area you’re painting. Paint as wide of a pattern as you can and it won’t be able to “Blotch”.
Thanks for the tip
Don’t get to close either or you’ll get runs
@@caveman4598 Thanks for the tip, never realized that until you mentioned it
Always start before the surface sweep and stop pass the other side. Also, Never Arch the spray pattern.
@@thecrittergitter7576 thank you
That really wasn’t bad man! And you got 3 coats outta that can??? That’s amazing. Gives me the courage to try paining my old truck lol
Go for it!
Do it bro I did it with normal cans on my Dailey and it's shitty but ima go over it with a couple of these ones next
@@shakinbottles sounds like a plan
Do it.😊
@@christopher9196 yes
I'm impressed with those old-school stickers in the window. They used to add five horsepower each.
Thank you, I said the same thing on a previous video....lol
Keep your overlap tight. Use a 75%overlap and you will get zero blotchiness. That's the problem with rattle cans. It's hard to prevent blotches but these turbo cans solve that problem by giving a decent spray pattern size but you still have to have a good overlap to prevent the blotches and streaks.
Thanks for the info
yes I used a turbo can of clear coat on the top on my 2004 Mercury where the clear coat had worn off it worked great its just like new again.
Yes, I liked how wide the spray pattern is but wasn't used to the amount of paint that came out of it.
Yes I know what you mean it is a big volume of paint that comes out with that wide nozzle.
@@BuckDOESIT
please advise: did you first buff off the old clear?
Came out pretty darn good! 👍
Yes and it is holding up well
One of those trigger handles on that thing would be incredible!
I have a couple of those things out in the shop...
It's essentially a pistol grip and a finger trigger that snaps down on top of the spray can...
The two that I have are probably twenty years old... I wonder if they're even made anymore?
I dont know if that would work.
they still exist, but as usual... lower quality.
at ace hardware still tje original made in USA ...your fingers out of the way and no fatique
@@tbkilb01 cool
@@tbkilb01 I sprayed 6 cans of paint one time on a project, my index finger tip was sore for 3-4 days!
Those trigger handles for the can are great, I found it out after the fact 🙄
Damn thats one hell of a spray pattern.....I like it.
Sure is
That looks dang good coming from a can
Yes, it worked very well
Yeah, it does look good for can it even convince me it was done professionally😅
Where was this when I was in high school! That large pattern probably really helps the end result. Normal rattle can spray patterns are really hard to make look good.
That's exactly why i wanted to try this,,,, the pattern
Dang! That can doesn’t joke around!
I like the fan spray instead of the round pattern. 👍
That's right .....No Joke . Shoots a lot of paint
Wonder can you swop that tip to a standard can?
@@vapinbachelor289 why would you do that?
That was a heck of a swath that first path.
Pretty cool to see.
Yes it comes out fast… wasn’t expecting that. That’s why I mentioned practicing
In my opinion gloss black is better than flat black
That's cool. I'm partial to flat Black.
Gloss black requires maintenance on a weekly basis to remain looking good. If you don't wax it weekly and polish it once a month, it'll look dull.
@@NickZ-dn7cr You must not have had anything painted in flat black for very long.
It's harder to maintain more then anything, it can and usually does start getting some bad spots and blotches all over.
Then if you graze it with something, it's very noticeable. Also if you try to clean it and rub a little to much in spots it turns into glossy spots.
Flat black does look cool Imho, but after living and learning I'd rather have a gloss black paint job. It'll look good for many more years if you take care of it.
Having a good clear coat and buffing can do wonders.
@@motov8-garage832you can just as easily do a good flat black paint job by laying down a good flat basecoat and coming back over it with a good flat clear. That will protect the paint and still keep it black. And it will not fade and become blotchy. I think people who do flat paint jobs don't realize that flat paint needs a clearcoat just as much as a gloss paint job does.
It's primer .means not paint it will need to be sanded smooth prior to painting .
Looks good enough to go down the track, no one will see the blotches in 10 seconds
Agreed ....I don't know about 10 seconds...lol
Looks good! I like the video.
Thank you
Lookin good Buck. Ya definitely got to keep movin, them things put out some paint!!!
Yes Sir. I learned that quickly
When I was a kid my mom had a 78 Skylark just like that. Hers was silver.
Right on!
Buicks are unbelievably QUICKER than they are supposed to be....!!!!
Idk why, torque i guess!!
Lit the tires up, smoked the chevy 350!
@@jennybaji421 awesome
My friend in HS had a 77Nova. Hid Dad painted it a medium blue and looked awesome, then the friend wanted a pink 1" wide stripe with the "autozone" zigzag about the middle of the door. Looked so cheesy....
His dad was putting together race cars during the payback grudge racing days of Hickory Motor Speedway back in the mid 70's. So he knew his paint. Freakin pink stripe, wtf. Knowing his dad, he thought the same thing...
Looks GREAT! and I LOVE THE CAR.
I’m British so I just love American cars to bits. 👍🇬🇧
Right on!
Love the spread!!!
Yes, that is what I was looking for
Looks good Buck. 8 passes and the car is painted lol
I think you are spot on with 8 passes. lol I think i should have read the instructions, but i pulled through
Hell yeah!! I’m a rattle can lover.
Holy smokes that coverage is Insane I have like a dozen of these never used them o got them for 1.50 a can on sale 😳 I'm going to have to use them now wow
That’s what I liked about this can . Coverage is great but a whole lot of paint comes out fast
@@BuckDOESIT would be hard to do even Coats when a hole lot of paint comes out at the same time
That turbo can is O.P. Every Video I seen any color turns out amazing💯
I agree!!
That is a beautiful Skylark I used to have a 1982 Buick Skylark with a V6 motor option and that thing lasted forever I remember the sin 4x10-in speakers in the rear actually can put out some pretty decent base for the '80s. Those things were almost impossible to get your hands on the speakers I mean. I love how that spray can just does such a wide pattern and goes on so smoothly. I love Rust-Oleum paint especially the one that has paint and primer in one. The Rust-Oleum gun you can sit on top of it made out of plastic also helps fatigue on your finger and it helps with better control. Amazing job trying to restore that car. By the way what year is that Skylark??
Cool story… 1978 Skylark
Good job for a spray can. Nice fan. ❤

Wow! That’s awesome for a spray can.

We did the same thing by replacing the nozzle with a WD-40 nozzle without the straw.
Machine gray for a steel shelf or workbench, white for lawn chairs, comes out fabulous

Yes John, works well. Just need more practice at spraying such a large fan

That Skylark is really coming along nicely
Thank you, It's been a lotof fun
Wow that looks good

This stuff works great, single stage white paint on my 92 OJ special Ford Bronco matched perfectly!!! I repainted the hood completely and its been years now you can’t tell the difference from stock to re-spray(thank god for white cars!)
black is the hardest to blend or keep looking good (just saying0
Exactly 👍! I like it
The best advice I saw about them is to put the cans in hot water. Not boiling, but 90° or so, just so the paint is nice and warm coming out.
Yes, I’ve heard that too
these work amazing on the interstate!
OK
That was so satisfying. I wish i had something to paint. 😅
Thank you! Cheers!
I’ve used those a lot. I repaint a lot of park benches on site. I can paint one in under two minutes. Great product

Wow that was pretty awesome! I think I'll use some of those when I spray the paint on my Grand Wagoneer.
I just did my motorcycle tank and fenders with Rust-Oleum silver glitter spray and it turned out pretty awesome also. I had to put a lot of clear coat on to make it a smooth glossy finish afterwards but boy it sure is sparkly now....
Sounds great
Now I want to paint the oxidation right off my Chevy! 😮😁💯
👍👍🚗🛻
Always maintain about 10 inches from the surface. Always move at the same speed with 50% overlapping
Thanks for the tip
Just straight-arm the can & have an assistant drive the car back & forth.
@@johnrusac6894 Hahaha
Amazing force and spread for out of a can
Exactly
Rustoleum high heat flat black BBQ grill paint does not run, dries almost instantly, is not blotchy, very durable, and reduces the temperature of the metal in the sun. You can even do touch up at a later time and it blends perfectly
Wow, thanks for the tip
But does that paint come in the turbo can?
Just make sure to use a sealer over that if you plan on base coat clear coat later. I’ve had all kinda strange reactions from spraying over rattle can . Even primer sealer in cans . You never really know what’s in them things and if it’s compatible
Thanks for the info
Turn the tip on the nozzle for spray patterns.
Wow! Didn’t know I could do that
I like it... !
I'm about to paint the hood and roof of my S10 PU, now I know what paint to but... thanks.. :)
Cool
I’ve tried the red , black and white, with my lack of experience I only had great results with the white, the red and black I had runs and spits pretty bad , but coverage is incredible for a can , I’d definitely recommend
Thanks for the input
I dig the this break upgrade
So do I. Got a good deal had to buy it
An improvement that's actually an improvement, for special purposes of course!
Yep, all it has to do is please the owner
What a great job with that, and I've never seen a spray can put out such a large spray pattern.
Thank you. had to try it and like it
The only issue is sometimes if you want to use regular car paint later may turn into a mess!!!
Agreed
Don't let Billy know that he be painting in a Walmart parking lot
Ok , the secret is safe 😂
Rustolium make some pretty good products for painting rusty frames and stuff and then I use the gloss black on them and they kind a dull back to a semi gloss and they look pretty good and the nice thing is if you can get everything in spray cans or quartz I recommend you get with a little touch up guns
Right on!

It took me 18 rattle cans of standard spray paint. I used Gray Sandable and a satin black on a 1964 Studebaker commander. And it looked awesome but I like the coverage spread
Wow that;s a lot of cans. Coverage is why i wanted to try the Turbo Can.
That is Simply Amazing. I didn't know there was such a thing.

Yes, so much easier too

@@BuckDOESIT practice makes perfect or something like that
“Recommend practice” is like saying I suck at this without saying I suck at this.

Looks pretty fuckn good for a can! 👍
Sure does🛞💨
Warm the can up first for better layers.
Get a bucket or empty 1 gallon milk jug or water jug. Cut the top off enough to sit the can in it then pour hot water in it. Let it sit for 10 to 15 minutes this will break up the mist to a finer spray.
Thanks for the info.....I'll have to remember that
