Wow, this one hit me hard. Pearl Jam was one of my husband's favorite bands. He passed away in 2015. I thought enough time had gone by that I could listen to this song again, but it still brings me floods of emotions, both loving and grief-filled.
That said, hearing everyone's interpretations of this song definitely helps. Thank you.❤

There will always be sights, smells, holidays and music that will be living within your soul that time can not erase. You must have been blessed to have loved deeply because the pain is also alive within you. Maybe life or love at the time was more complicated than you remember. I think that's what people mean when they say time will ease your pain. Please understand whenever something reminds your heart of all the love and loss you felt and still feel, your husband is near. He never wanted you to feel such pain, and when you do, he is there. He will also be there whenever you experience joy and love again. These words will always be the truth...the circle can not be broken.

I've never heard anyone explain the feelings behind this song so thoroughly and perfectly as you have. The fact that all of you could feel the depth of Eddie Vedder's pain while listening and watching is a testament to Vedder's fantastic lyrics and emotional singing, not to mention Stone Gossard's beautiful music.

I heard this song for the first time in 92, when I was a DJ in the club where I worked, following a request from a customer. The CD was brand new and I hadn't had a chance to hear it yet. The song started and I froze as if hypnotized, unable to move. Not since Led Zeppelin's Kashmir back in 1975 had I been so captivated by a song. And then I noticed tears on my cheeks. "Black" is perhaps the most powerful song I've ever heard - to this day. And everyone on this planet obviously feels that too. The old and wise Abdul has little in common with this liberal agnostic German in terms of cultural background. But this song bridges all differences and teaches us about our common human condition.

Haha, I have long hair myself so Muharam's comments on theirs made me laugh out loud. He is my favourite person who features on your channel, his enthusiasm and love for music is infectious and he never fails to bring a smile to my face.
If it's not too much trouble for you, would you please tell him that this middle aged man with long hair from the UK wishes him absolutely nothing but success and happiness in his life and that I hope that like himself i never lose the inner spark that music brings to us.
I wish the best for everyone else on the channel (and anyone else who happens to read this) as well, but Muharam is certainly my favourite, if only because he reminds me of myself (though obviously not in the hair department).

So very, very true about the long nights alone waiting for dawn when someone can comfort you (if you're lucky)--and the "ask people in pain how they spend their nights"--If people would ask, and would really listen to the answer, they would understand a lot more about the person they're talking to and what they're going through. I used to work with Stone Gossard, the guitarist/song writer for Pearl Jam. I miss our talks; he's a true intellectual. There are a few songs that contain snippets of our conversations; mostly revolving around the abusive relationship I was in. It makes the music even more painful for me; I wish I could talk to him now - to let him know how much better my life is. I love watching you all discuss music; you get the message right and have good insight.

What Abdul said at the end of the video struck me so deep... he knows. Thank you Adnan for doing these videos that show that music is without borders of language...

It’s so beautiful that people from other cultures can relate to and appreciate this song. And they are right - this song does make me cry.
I also appreciate the levity of asking if any of the band members are women because of their long hair.

The really like how the subtle difference in culture is shown, how Muharam reacts to the hair but on the other hand they can easily access deeper thoughts and emotions than is usual in my "Anglo male worldview".
It also feels too me like poetry and "proper" communication (like we used to do before those screens started hypnotising us) is still a common part of their lives. Our lives are fast and flashy but after listening to these guys for half a dozen videos, It is obvious they are more connected to the things in life that really matter.
Muharam is a good dude, I would love to sit and chat with him, a wise man.

Abdul is so very wise. I enjoy his reactions the best because even though he may not speak the language of the singer, he understands how the body, soul and spirit work together in harmony to make the message clear. Abdul has my greatest respect.

I remember when I was a kid growing up in the DMV in the 70’s & 80’s those type of clothes were often made fun of & the more I look at them now they’re beautiful garments 🖤🤓

Kudos to you. Your participants are getting a musical education that most of us should envy. I love their reactions every time.
There are different subsets of rock music. You've introduced them to heavy metal. Pearl Jam is in the "grunge rock" category. (Although most bands can move between genres and do.) An earlier rock and roll band put out a song 25 years before this on a similar theme. The Rolling Stones recorded "Paint it Black" in 1966. It deals with the death of the singer's beloved. It gets me every time I hear it. (And I'm old, so I've heard it a lot...)

I’m jealous and happy for the village that has Abdul as an elder. Every video I’ve seen on this channel, he has shown an amazing level of understanding the human spirit, the human condition, that spans every culture. He really gets it, and I love hearing his takes on all the foreign media he gets exposed to.

You can tell the emotional impact of the song for him, the end where he's singing about how they belong together was something he added to the original song and was not planned.
