But like he said in the interview Phil played, he tried to remedy things later on and be more careful. Rogan not providing that context may have been due to him not being aware, or maybe Robin kept doing it but more secretively in his later years, or Rogan just worded it quickly and didn't give much thought to nuance, or any number of other things. But it is also true that Robin was beloved by not just the general public, but also fellow comedians, and he would regularly go out of his way to try and help people get opportunities. Speaking ill of the dead is generally bad form, but in this case, since he may have been factually correct, I'd say his mistake was just making those comments without any empathy or nuance.

I think people are just defensive about Robin Williams. Which is okay. He was a beautiful soul. Brought a lot of love into the world. However, I think it’s important we don’t delude ourselves and not allow ourselves to speak objectively about certain things. Behaviours, etc, even of the dead. Obviously you should never speak ILL of them, however, there was nothing really “ill” said. He was asked a question, he talked about what he knew of it.

RIP to Comicstorian, this news really shocked me and brought back some memories I have since tried to forgot.
I discovered his CZcams back in 2021 during my battle with meth addiction (pandemic was hell, i had already been 6 years sober from heroin), he was one of my sources of comfort during my painful and uncomfortable withdrawal days or when i was feeling so low or was tweaking so much I couldn't sleep or focus on one thing while trapped in my room....having his hours plus long vids play in the background was a lifesaver, helped me focus when i was high or helped me sleep when i was not.
having watched the CZcamsr "comics explained" some years before that, I was constantly suggested more of Comicstorian's vids and really got into it because I was already searching for long format comics audio narration so I loved how he did full complete narrations of comics instead of just summarizing them or explaining them.
What made his videos special was his voice acting, he would read out every dialogue with different voices and style so you knew who was talking while multitasking because I couldn't focus on just one thing or keep my mind from racing while tweaking. He also included scenes from the comics he was narrating so you could watch and follow along if you wanted which helped me with days i was bedridden battling withdrawal. He also made it easier or helped made it easier getting into different franchises that have been around for decades.
I eventually noticed and completly forgot I had moved on from watching his vids for almost a year now when I had settled in being comfortable in sobriety. At the early stages of my sobriety I had associated watching his vids to the my tweaking days but this news makes me very sad because I never forgot about him and had always planned on revisiting to check out his manga channel since I've been getting more into that lately.
This news is so very sad and unexpected

@@breania_inekora5069 Sadly, no. The 13th Ammendment specifically places a loophole of "Unless for the punishment of a crime." So what essentially happened is that slavery became more hidden. The United States government at a state and federal level began arresting people of colour en masse for minor crimes, giving them needlessly harsh prison sentences and then using them as cheap prison labour. It's gotten so bad that when there was a supreme court decision to lessen the sentences or even release non violent offenders, the attorney general of California at the time, Kamala Harris (the current Vice President) actively fought and ignored the orders because it would weaken their labour force. She nearly got the entire state held in contempt by the supreme court because she wanted to hold onto the prison labour pool.

I felt the same way, I discovered his CZcams back in 2021 through my battle with meth addiction, he was one of my sources of comfort during my painful and uncomfortable withdrawal days or when i was feeling so low or was tweaking so much I couldn't sleep or focus on one thing, having his full hour plus long vids play in the background was a lifesaver.
having watched "comics explained" some years before that, I was constantly suggested more of Comicstorian's vids and really got into it because I loved how he did full complete narrations of comics instead of just summarizing them or explaining them.
I loved the way Benny approached making his vids through the voice acting, narration so I can listen while multitasking and also including scenes from the comics he was narrating so i can sit and follow along if I wanted. He also made it easier or helped made it easier getting into different franchises that have been around for decades.
I haven't been watching his vids for almost a year now after having completely quit doing drugs and being sober since I associated watching his vids to the my struggle with addiction but this news makes me very sad because I never forgot about him and had always planned on revisiting to check out his manga channel since I've been getting more into that lately

She was born with a heart arrhythmia and the Doctors said even with the perfect bill of health they told her just a week prior this kind of freak accident can occur. I was right there. I did CPR and called 911 right away and it wasn't enough. Nothing short of having a defibrillator for the home would have been enough. The explanation that Williams gave is very much something that can happen, I know from experience as a musician that a similar thing happens when you listen to music then try to write your own, the little bits that your brain picks up and remembers just find their way in, and I feel that in his case, realizing that and finding a way to deal with it is a hugely important thing to prevent accidentally using something that someone else may have said at some point.

He was a true comic fan. His excitement was how I am when discussing comics. He will be greatly missed. Rest in peace.

As a Criminologist, one of the things I want more people to realize and understand is that slavery never ended in the United States, it just became more hidden. Prisoners are functionally slaves but get far less sympathy than the enslaved, because most people dehumanize inmates. The 13th Amendment, the one that outlaws slavery, specifically has a built in loophole. Slavery shall not exist "except as punishment for a crime." So what ended up happening is that slavery just left the plantations and cotton fields and instead became institutional. What this ended up causing what that people of colour, especially Black and Hispanic people, began getting mass incarcerated and given prison sentences for minor offences and crimes. A Black person caught with crack cocaine would be given a harsh prison sentence that if a White person was caught, the White person would have to have 10 times as much drugs in their possession to get a punishment similar to that of the Black person. Then, once placed in prison, they'd be subjected to harsh slave labour and any complaint or minor misbehaviour would be penalized with extensions on their sentences. And if they were release on parole or something, they'd be given extremely harsh and strict release conditions that would be easily broken so that they'd be rearrested and thrown back into prison.
This problem is so prevalent that even the current vice president Kamala Harris, when she was the Attorney General for California, actively fought against a supreme court decision aimed to reduce prison populations in the United States so much that the state was almost found in contempt of court. She actively refused to release nonviolent and low risk prisoners because it would heavily reduce the cheap labor pool in the state. It was found that not only was she and the state not trying to reduce prisoner numbers, they were actively striving to INCREASE the number of prisoners.

In many states, you can't become a firefighter if you have a criminal record. So we're totally fine exploiting people when they have no choice and are being paid an insulting amount, but the moment they're free to choose their own path, all that experience means jack because they won't be hired.

We get a lot of guys that have cigarettes, vapes, gum, etc, and they leave them here with security so they can have access to them freely while they're working. They're also generally nice guys, but they make almost nothing for working this extremely dangerous job. We have guys that pass out from heat stroke if they don't take breaks. They have regular access to elwater anytime they need it, all provided by the company, and management for every different shop on site is really supportive. I was held in the Santa Clarita Sheriff's Jail 7 years ago. The firefighter program is ONLY allowed for non-violent offenders. There are placards along the walls advertising this. They let you know that you're getting jack squat for the work, but it's made out to be this sweet gig that isn't jail. And the thing is, it's better than staying in a 60-man room. I was there for only a few weeks, but nevertheless, I experienced one of the worst injuries ever [torn rotator cuff, no ER to help], not to mention that I was witness to the sexual assault of a fellow inmate. I still have the carbon copy of the complaint that I made (coincidentally, I was released on my own recognizance soon after). We NEED to stop putting people in jail for non-violent offenses, as well as stop putting the majority of people (who are mostly poor) in jail so they can wait and suffer just to get their day in court. Part of the reason we have "too many" members that are "too old" is because there are no term limits. Term limits would purge most of the people who are "too old" on its own, as well as address a lot of the issues with having people sitting in a seat of power that is basically uncontested so long that they are trivially able to serve well past the point where they should.
