Part 3 / 'With A Vengeance' is possibly the epitome of this genre - the 'we're serious, but we don't take ourselves seriously' category that died in the 1990s... so really hope you get there, Shan! 👏
Die Hard 3 is not a Christmas movie though, so you don't have to wait.
My favorites in the franchise are die hard 2, die hard with a vengeance and a good day to die hard
3 used to come on HBO all the damn time in the 90s. At one point, I had seen it more than the original.
Yes! With a Vengeance is my fave!
No. "With a vengeance" is awful. It's where they took the Die hard out of "Die hard" and turned it into generic, uninteresting schlock. And character development from previous outings is illogical and unwelcome. It's so obvious it wasn't written as a Die hard movie, but that label was slapped on after the script was already written. Had the movie been called "The last boyscout 2" it would still be rotten, but it would at least make sense. Not even Samuel L Jackson can save it. Long rant here, but nobody is going to praise the blasphemous franchise-killer that is "With a vengeance" on my watch. I HATE it.
This was the last of the "Christmas" Die Hard movies so you won't need to wait a year to continue your reviews of the rest of the episodes!
Please don't wait a year. #3 is a lot of people's favorite one.. Myself included.
But on the other hand, you don't need to review the other three at all. Because they're awful, and there's nothing "Die hard" about them.
Well Pt 4 you need to watch on independence day :D
Die Hard 3 (with a Vengeance) is the closest in quality to the first and probably my favorite of them all.
exciting!!
Yea. Its the true sequal. Die hard 2.they just ripped a other script and adopted it.
I agree. 3 is definitely the best of the sequels
@@ShanelleRiccio The director of the first one returns to Die Hard 3: John McTiernan, who also directed Predator. On the other hand, Renny Harlin, director of Die Hard 2, has another great 90s action movie: CLIFFHANGER with Stallone, highly recommended. And also a shark movie called: DEEP BLUE SEA, after Spielberg's JAWS, DEEP BLUE SEA, is my second favorite shark movie.
Plus he finally gets back to New York.
When I worked at Universal Studios I had the chance to meet and spend a little time with Dennis Franz (The AH Airport Police Captain). In addition to being a multiple Emmy Award winner for his role as Detective Andy Sipowisz on NYPD Blue back in the day he is also a Vietnam Veteran and one of the absolute nicest, down to earth guys you could ever want to meet.
Good to know.
I loved NYPD Blue back in the day. I watched the whole series again about 5 years ago. It was still great! Poor old Andy was such a beaten down character! I would love someone to react to THAT series!
Fun fact: After Die Hard, Reginald VelJohnson (Al) went on to play a cop again in the show Family Matters. After Die Hard 2, Dennis Franz (Lorenzo) went on to play a cop again in the show NYPD Blue.
VelJohnson played a cop before Die Hard, as well. In Ghostbusters. Then when he was doing Family Matters as a cop, he was in Turner and Hooch as a cop. He was kinda typecast a lot.
And William Atherton went on to play a dick in every movie after this!
Oh, and so did Franz. He was on Hill Street Blues for years.
Also, since Family Matters was a spinoff of Perfect Strangers, VelJohnson (as Carl Winslow) played a cop on that show as well.
@ShawnRavenfire I always say that Family Matters is VelJohnson's spinoff of his Die Hard character. 😅
Since you like Die Hard and DH2 so much, I'm sure you'd love The Long Kiss Goodnight. Believe it or not, Geena Davis is the lead and hero with Samuel L. Jackson as her 'sidekick." Great script, story, dialogue, etc. Also set at Christmas time. BTW, thanks for these reactions. I have as much fun watching you have fun as you're having! So I say Yay for Shanelle!
...and it's directed by the same director as Die Hard 2, Renny Harlin.
@@markush1122 And a great female action lead in Geena Davis before J.Law was born.
yeah, TLKG is a must
+1 for _Long kiss goodnight._ Script by Shane Black, 'nuff said.
Came here to give the same suggestion. It's a great movie!
The assault that the reporter mentioned was when Holly punched him.
"I'd love to see that footage."
Uhm, you did.
I was WAY too young when I first saw this movie. I'm still haunted by the icicle kill and the throat-slitting.
haunting!!
@@ShanelleRiccio It'll melt in time... no biggy...
I love all the die hard movies. You should definitely check out the rest of them. Although the rest of them are not at Christmas time. The third one, "Die Hard with a Vengence" has Samual L. Jackson. That fact alone should make you want to watch it.
Thornburg was the reporter she punched at the end of the first one because he went to her house and was talking to her kids live on TV. Apparently it's not the terrorists we should be worried about, it's Thornberg. That guy puts more people in danger than is necessary.
I found the sound effects for the handguns very funny as well because they seemed unrealistic as to how loud they were. Maybe I should of used your words, hyper real.
I also found it funny how long that runway was during the finale. Maybe I don't like suspending disbelief as much as I thought I did.
I loved Die Hard 3 and 4 as well
DH3 mostly because of the snappy interactions between Bruce Willis and Samuel L. Jackson as the lead and the sidekick
DH4 because it's set in more modern time and includes a lot of computer based crime, where an older Bruce Willis is a Dinosaur who doesn't quite get any of it, but still manages to save the day by being old school
... so even though some may disagree, I would recommend those two too
there is a 5th movie also if you were not aware
The sign he gets to wear when he walks down the the street shes gonna die I need this reaction
If you like snappy dialogue in action movies, you really need to see The Long Kiss Goodnight (if you haven’t already). Amazing Sam Jackson one-liners.
Pretty much any Shane Black script. Kiss Kiss Bang Bang too.
The Long Kiss Goodnight is a great one
@@inarar5334 Yes! Gotta do Kiss Kiss Bang Bang.
"I miss Alan Rickman, but he's dead, right?"
Yes, yes he is. :( Although only his _character_ was dead at the time this movie was filmed.
I like how granny proudly whips out her stun gun when you know there’s no way that’d get through airport security after 9/11. Another good Bruce Willis 90’s action flick: The Last Boy Scout.
Thanks for reacting to this, Shanelle. There's fun factoid about this movie as well. One of the actors, the late Fred Thompson, who played Trudeau (the guy who runs the airport) actually became a US Senator. He was also one of the presidential front-runners for the Republican nomination back in 2008, but eventually lost the primaries to john mccain. Anyway, one of his other notable roles in that same year 1990 as 'Die Hard 2', was as an Admiral in the movie 'The Hunt For Red October'. He passed away in 2015.
Yes that's Robert Patrick from Terminator 2. James Cameron actually saw him in this film, then auditioned him for Terminator 2.
Hi Shan...so fun to see you react to number 2...and here is the good news, number three has Samuel L Jackson, and McTiernan comes back to direct...and even more good news, you don't have to wait until next Xmas to watch it. 💯😁
dude stop, all those good news will make me think its all false. I have never heard so many in one day!!
The CBS Sunday Night Movie Version with the swearing removed or dubbed is hilarious especially when John McClane says "Yippee Kay Yay Mr Falcon!"
Or, "Forget Monday Night quarterbacks! My wife is on one of those damn planes those guys are messing with! And if you moved your fat feet like I told you so we wouldn't be deep in snow right now!"
Instead of "Come to papa Scumbag," it's "come to papa Falcon".
One of the more memorable TV edits ever. You could immediately tell it was edited because the actor they got for the ADR was very obviously not Bruce Willis.
I am so glad he kept his shoes on for this one. I actually FELT the broken glass in the first one.
Shanelle, you get an extra 👍for the "ground beef" line.❤
T2 actor in this is the guy who says "a sitting duck!" to the swat team guy who asked him "what do I look like". Best line is the response to Al Powel "Yeah I am fresh out of chlorine!"
You are the best person to watch movie reactions with. Your reactions and commentary make the movie watching experience better.
Shanelle....love your reactions and most of the time you teach me something about film making! The Air Traific Control head honcho was Fred Thompson, who was acting WHILE being a US senator from 1994-2003. He was in No Way Out,The Hunt For red October, Days of Thunder ,Cape fear and In the Line Of Fire, to name a few.
I just watched the trailer for "The Whale". It looks really good! I'm glad to see Brendan Fraser is in a big movie. Keep up the good work Shanelle. You're awesome!
All the stuff people say about his injuries and The Mummy. I saw an interview with him where he remembered those movies fondly and said he'd do another if they asked.
The guy who played Lozenzo became quite popular for a few years in the eighties playing on Hill Street Blues. It earned him a shot at his own show Beverly Hills Buntz.
Next year, you've got to watch 'Long Kiss Goodnight' for Christmas. Underrated gem.
I saw this at a sneak preview showing the night before it officially opened. The whole place was packed with fans of the first movie, and we were all really into this one. Everyone was having a great time. It gets near the end of the movie, and the plane is taking off. McClane pulls out the lighter and says "Yippee-ki-yay" and the *whole theater* shouted "MOTHERF***ER!" I'm sure they heard it in the lobby and any in adjacent theaters, and wondered just what was going on in that theater.
For Die Hard 3 you dont have to wait for next x-mas since it does not take place during the holiday season.
Larceny Inc. is the most underrated Christmas movie change my mind
21:02 comment: Snowdercycle(s)-that's a keeper.-Ernie Moore Jr.
I remember when I saw this in the theater, I and others gave a cheer when Reginald VelJohnson's Al Powell showed up. Just wish he could have had a bigger role than a cameo.
It's not a Christmas movie but Diehard with a Vengeance is a great flick, second to the first one.
I am pretty sure that while you were talking you missed the woman saying she switched from Mace to a Taser and that she had used the Taser on her dog! Reminder; the reporter tried to interview John and her outside Nakatomi and she punched him. That is why he got a restraining order against her (Holly). 👱♀👱♀👗👗👠👠💓💓
"I'll Be Seeing You" (1944) is an old holiday film nobody seems to remember.
"Give us a taste of your brilliant genius!"
One too many words
But Fred Thompson, so bonus points. But so far, 10 or 15 minutes in, I think this screenplay is about 3% less snappy than the original.
I think the naked soldier at the start is a callback to Martin Sheen in Apocalypse Now.
“Die Hard 2” was a great choice! It’s definitely my favorite from among the “Die Hard” sequels. As I recall, the film received bad press early on because it was a “troubled production,” as they say-over budget, multiple directors coming and going, etc. But the end result on the screen is very satisfying. The movie reunites many of the cast members from the original “Die Hard.” And thematically, as well, there are many elements of continuity with the first film. Sad to say, though, that those first two films are the only real “Die Hard” films. All of the sequels that followed were basically just generic Bruce Willis-action movies with the “Die Hard” label slapped on them. Which is not to say that they’re completely without merit. People still remember Samuel L. Jackson’s performance in the third film, “Die Hard with a Vengeance” (1995), for example. But for me, the “Die Hard” franchise ended with the second film, which, as it happens, serves as a very nice bookend for the classic original.
1:12 - The trivia is one of the best things about this channel, it's what makes the videos unique. Why do people skip that part???
Trivia is my main section to read on IMDB :)
@@HerbertAckermans Right on! I just google shit, check out Wikipedia entries, as well as other sites myself.
Seriously - that's the biggest thing that Shanelle does that no one else does & it's such a blast.
@@coeusdarksoul2855 IKR? Truly baffling to me. IDK, some people are just broken I guess.
The 747 cargo jet was actually an Evergreen International Airlines plane - now defunct - used for the film. I got to see one of their 747s - which may or may not have been the actual plane - on display at the Evergreen Aviation Museum in McMinnville, Oregon several years back.
Don't know if anyone mentioned it yet, but the terrorist who says "Like a sitting duck" before shooting the guy is Robert Patrick before he became famous as the liquid metal T-1000 terminator in Terminator 2: Judgment Day.
31:14 "I love a sequel, you guys. I love when a sequel refers to what came before it..."
...Die Hard 3 (with a vengeance) is waiting for you m'lady. 😎
Merry Christmas Shanelle, Cool Reaction As Always, Take Care Sweetie 🥰❤️
Die hard 2 is most memorable for the Aeroplanes running on fumes line 😂
The only snag with the "happy ending" of this film (the cop ripping up the parking ticket, the Xmas song etc.) is that they seem to have forgotten about the 200 people who just died in the earlier plane crash.
Wow already almost 2,000 views within the first hour. Way to go Shan.
Shannel! thank you for all your content this year i've really enjoyed it! you have a great Christmas Lass from a wee scottish fan!
14:45. “Because it’s like…snow” killed me for some reason. 😂
Die Hard 3 is not a Christmas movie, but it is really worth a watch.
The 'technology' bit was simply to introduce the 'taser' which would come into play later in the movie. Because at the time this movie was made, 'tasers' were not very well known to the public.
William Sadler the colonel in this movie, was the Hank Williams loving prisoner in Shawshank Redemption and the father of the twins in the Green Mile
Die Hard with A Vengeance is the third and IMO best of the series. You'll love it. The addition of Samuel L Jackson and the way he plays with Willis in the third one is fuckin amazing.
Keep up the great work and congrats on 50K!
"I wanna see that footage", you did, when she slugged him at the end of the first movie and we all cheered.
nice fact about the terminator guy robert patrick, because of the escalator scene in this movie he got the role in terminator 2.
Until Die Hard 4.0 the saga is very good, recommended by everyone. Die Hard 3 takes place throughout the city of New York, filmed in the mid-90s, and years before 9/11, so the film is like a museum piece, being able to see even some places in the World Trade Center .
You don’t have to wait so long to watch Die Hard 3. It doesn’t take place At Christmas.
17:36 - "Can you puncture the window without repercussions like that?" - Pretty much, yes. The loss of cabin pressure would affect the people inside more than the plane, and if they were low enough, it would probably just make it a little uncomfortable for them. Google Aloha Airlines Flight 243. In 1988, part of the upper body ripped off a 737 while in flight at 24,000 feet. The pilot managed to land and the only fatality was a flight attendant who got sucked out of the plane during the initial explosive decompression. The photos of the damage to the plane are pretty shocking.
18:40 - No grenade takes THAT long to explode. According to the net, typical grenade fuses last 3-5 seconds from when the handle is released.
Your reaction was again great Shanelle. I sincerely hope you watch the rest of the Die Hard series! Thanks.
It's just not Christmas until the Die Hard movie plays. Good choice. You will enjoy the next two Die Hard sequels and if you still want some Bruce Willis with Die Hard wit and action you can go to the "RED" and "RED2" films. They are good stories with great casts and they move along very well. Yes you can puncture the window but you have to quickly drop to an altitude where you can breathe.
Awesome, cheers . I think 1st 4 are worth a watch for different reasons.
what was wrong with the 5th as the 4th and 5th were story's that save his relationship with his children
I love that you're interested in all the behind-the-scenes stuff. A blu-ray loaded with every extra feature possible is a treasure trove for me. I actually like this one more since it earns every bit of its R rating. The next one is great too but I would STOP there!
Die hard 1 was exelent story telling and directing.
Die hard two is lots of humor and action.. and.. well lots and lots of callbacks.
Die hard 3.... is just of the chart. Its like T2 level of epicness.
Bruce Willis did another action movie called The Last Boyscout with Damien Waynas. It is a great buddy action movie.
Reginald VelJohnson was the dad on Family Matters. He played a police officer. Yes, there is a scene where he wonders how this could happen to the same guy twice. :) Love your work Ms. Riccio. :)
This is one of the best action movies I ever watched since Die Hard! And yes I consider Die Hard 2 a Christmas movie.
Merry Christmas! 🎄🎁🎅🏻
4:40 - THAT, and not the overall theme of the movie, is why this is a Christmas movie: it's just like going to look under the tree the next morning and getting EVERYTHING YOU WANTED! 😃
Nice video as always fam
Robert Patrick was also in 40 episodes of "The X-Files" filling in for David Duchovny mostly.
next movies are not set at Christmas so you do not have to wait a year to watch them they are, in order:
Die Hard with a Vengeance
Die Hard 4.0 (in USA it is called Live free or Die Hard)
A Good Day to Die Hard
Part 1,3 & 4 were my favs, but I liked them all. I'd love to see you react to Pt 3 (with Samuel L Jackson).
We’re not just friends, we are fam. I hope you have a great Christmas. Thanks for all the great reactions.
I saw this last night off a real 35mm print. Everyone in the theater was having fun.
The song that's playing at the end when planes land is called The Finlandia Hymn. czcams.com/video/F5zg_af9b8c/video.html
Renny Harlin being a Finn always adds something Finnish in his movies. In Long Kiss Goodnight they drank Finlandia vodka, in Cliffhanger one of the parachutes had Finnish flag in it and so on.
Great reaction, Shan... I hope you would like this one... I saw it a few years back and I liked it but I didn't think it was as good as the first one but still very entertaining...Keep being awesome and I'll see you on the next one...
John Leguizamo's character got his throat slashed by Colonel Hatchling in his double-agent reveal turn.
For a really goofy fun heist movie with Bruce Willis, I really enjoyed Hudson Hawk. Singing while stealing. ;)
The best part of that ejector seat shot was it was in the marketing sooooo much. Trailers, TV spots etc. It was definitely trying to be the firehose stunt. Which had the same role in the marketing for the first.
24:34 - Aw man, I just knew you'd love that part, I KNEW it! 😃
12:22 - Like I said before: ask and ye shall receive! 😆
funny i was watchinbg this on a. wednesday in october. and a christmas commercial came on with those classic sleigh bells lol
I know you're a stickler for details, so I was surprised you didn't realize the bad guys were shooting blanks during the firefight. Go back and re-watch when they're in the shootout in the Annex building, and again in the church before the firefight begins. You will see those magazines in the weapons have red tape wrapped around them, and in the church, they switch to blue wrapped magazines...blanks. You can see them switching several times depending on who they're shooting at. When they blow up the snow sled John is on, the magazine in the weapon has red tape again. I can't call this a Christmas movie. While the first one definitely is because it takes place during an office Christmas party, Die Hard 2 just takes place during the holiday season.
Whoever adds the written commentary on the screen is hilarious!
Crazy! I was 19 when this came out and saw it in theater the night before I was to fly for the very first time. 🙄 I had no idea it was set at an airport until I saw it. Needless to say, it added to my stress of traveling that far alone.
Me (17 at the time) and a couple of classmates went to see Die Hard 2 in the cinema, it is the way to watch it, there's so much going on that is just AMAZING on a cinema HUGE screen! Die Hard, the first, yeah, you can watch that without much difference in experience on a TV screen, but Die Hard 2 upped it with the setting, seeing a plane crash in the cinema... Yeah, that's why cinema is the place to see movies.
Your guess of budget was spot on🖖
It's good to see that your aversion to action movies may change.
Hope you do the third movie; not set at christmas, but in summer it's my favourite. That exchange where the main villain says "I get that a lot. I've been on TV" gets me every time; the actor has made appearances; or so it seems, on just about every show around :-) kerk
9:06 - Good catch! I myself never noticed that, and wish it was a more common choice.
Thanks for the video. I enjoyed it.
Looks like they used the iconic Buck 119 knife back at 20:04. Or maybe one of the very closely related models.
Nope. On second appearance at 20:12 the swedge has an unusual start, the choil has an unusual sort of double choil feature and the guard is probably slanted. Some other large knife trying to look like a slightly jazzed up 119 or 124.
This had director trademark.. he put some reference on his homeland on his movies.. here it was Sibelius.. Finlandia.. clifhanger.. parachute flag.. etc...
The 3rd one is not a Christmas movie so you can do that anytime. And it's SO GOOD.
Greetings from Finland girl!!! This was directed by Renny Harlin and he's from Finland 2!!! You should definitely check out Cliffhanger and The long kiss goodnight also directed by him.. i mean if you haven't seen those yet??? "I'll be back" 😎
Great reaction and insights as always. I'm going to have to vote that you tackle DieHard (With A Vengeance) 3 sooner than next Christmas. Its a summery NYC movie after all.
After many years of flip-flopping which is my favourite Die Hard (original or 3), I have now settled in on 3. My usual test for this (sort of doesn't apply anymore because of streaming) is if both movies are on 2 different channels on TV at the same time, which one would I watch. And its 3 for me.
The addition of John's sidekick (Samuel L. Jackson) for the entire movie put it over the top for me. I hope you take a look at it sooner than later.
Remember when this came to theatres in hot August. Still got the Xmas vibes, though. The snow, ice and season looks good to me in part as Renny Harlin, the director, is from Scandinavia. The icicle in the eye was his idea, from his own nightmare. Looking out the window, the weather is exactly the same now here. Very Xmassy. Recommend The Long Kiss Goodnight from Renny with Geena Davis or Prison with Viggo Mortensen. Btw., Renny is still at it, made one with Jackie Chan some time back and is rebooting a horror franchise. Season's Greetings!
"Don't kill the part of you that is cringe. Kill the part of you that cringes"- a fun person
Great reaction!!! DH3 and DH4 are really good!
I hope you follow up soon with Die Hard: With A Vengeance.
"We're gonna go ahead and call that the bad guy!"
Coffee instantly out the nose.
hahah
Keep Bruce Willis and his family in your prayers because the 67 year old actor has aphasia. It is primary progressive aphasia and has cognitive effects such as dementia. 😢
I love her reactions to these action films.
Lethal weapon and mad max are another great franchises! As a Brazilian it always cracks me up the reaction people have with the naked human body! 🤣🤣🤣
You missed the part where rental agent asks him out and he shows her his ring and says, Just the fax, ma'am. Dragnet, Classic line.
