With exception of about 3 songs MIJ is a load of noise...or bollocks. Take your oick
At Fillmore East. Allman Brothers Band.
The best live album I know.
The Allman Brothers at Fillmore East is by far my favorite live album.
Yeah, it's great.
Live at leeds was always my favorite.
In a class of it's own.
Humble Pie - 'Performance Rockin' the Fillmore'...Pretty darn good, too. 😎
I say Humble Pie King Biscuit is better than Performance.
ABSOLUTELY! Frampton rules that record .tears it up! they were opening for GRAND FUNK RR that tour.
1 Uriah Heep - live 1973 2 UFO -Strangers in the night 3 Scorpions - Tokyo tapes .
Humble Pie rockin' the fillmore
ABSOLUTELY!
HELL YES !!! Doesn't get talked about enough .... maybe people just haven't had a slice of the pie .
Peter Frampton comes alive great album😎
HAWKWIND - Space Ritual
The greatest "live" album of all time !
Honorable mention :
RAMONES - It's Alive !
It's all fun thanks Pete 👍
Hawkwind maybe is underrated
Frank Marino till this day is still on fire. One of the Best live shows ever.
Here’s my top ten.
10 Saxon - The Eagle has Landed
9 UFO - Strangers in the Night
8 Iron Maiden - Live after Death
7 Caravan - Live at Fairfield Hall 1974
6 Yes - 9012Live
5 Genesis - Live
4 Black Sabbath - Live Evil
3 Whitesnake - Live..in the Heart of the City
2 Rainbow - Live in Munich 1977
1 Deep Purple - Made in Japan (obviously).
Great choices!🤘
For me:
#1 Rory Gallagher - Irish Tour '74
#2 Hawkwind - Space Ritual
#3 Thin Lizzy - Live and Dangerous
Space Ritual is a start to finish experience that is hard to explain or match ... & many folks over the pond won't even know just how seminal & immense it is (sadly) ....
Hawkwind - Space Ritual, awesome album!
Deep Purple Made in Japan was THE album that started me into heavy rock music
Humble pie... rocking the Fillmore did it for me. Excellent vlog Pete! The drum solo on The Mule is awesome!
Man, by making Made In Japan your favorite live album you just became my favorite vinyl channel on CZcams. 👍👍👍
Thank you very much for your top 25 live albums! You and your family have a Merry Christmas & Happy Holidays! 🎤🎸🎵🥁🌲
Frampton comes alive!!!!!!
If you were a kid under 16 in the late 70s, chances are Kiss Alive was your game changer as well.
Not sure that would be true for Brits...
Kiss are American, they mean very little to British rock fans.
We had Purple, Zeppelin, Maiden, Rainbow, Sabbath, etc, etc..
Great list, with Zappa Live at the Roxy and elsewhere and Genesis Seconds Out. Thank you.
Hi Pete... spot on 'Made in Japan' amazing, still remember the first moment I heard it... sounds great, no overdubs... keep coming back to it!
Seconds out is such an underrated album. Cinema show and Supper's ready are such highlights
Solid list. Glad to see Trower up there. Saw him play live a couple of times. Never saw anyone do so much so effortlessly. Wish I could have seen him with Dewar.
Merry Christmas Pete!🎁🎄🙏🏻Thank you so much for taking the time to not just doing the live album tournament, but also sharing your favorite live albums. We know the effort that goes into it. Excited for what’s in store for 2020.-Chris & Beth🎧🔥🎄🎁🎸🥁
Thanks for adding your list in the description, I can get why you may not always want to do but it is apricated.
Uriah Heep Live and Kiss Alive are my two favorites. Merry Christmas.
Heep Live '73....and i like the r n r medley...rock on Pete!
Hey Pete, found your channel a few weeks ago.... fantastic. Feel like I could sit down with you and talk music for decades. Love that you mentioned Humble Pie live at the Fillmore, my all time favorite. Keep up the good work and Rock On!
Hi Pete, it's so great to listen to you talking about your PASSION for music, which is mine too.
Take care
UFO is and was one of the best and talented Rock bands of all time ! Too many people missed out on this fantastic band !
Glad you mentioned right at the end, the great Rory Gallagher. Stage Struck and Irish Tour '74 should be right at the top of any live album lists. I would also include and surprised you didn't: On your feet or on your knees and Extraterrestrial live by BOC. Supported Strangers in the Night all the way, it's a worthy and deserved winner of your competition.
Just cause it doesn't make the top 25 doesn't mean I don't love it. I included well over 100 on this tournament, and I love all of them.
Rory and BOC.....I like it....Stagestruck is fantastic...hard rock Rory....BOC live all day and night...actually I just did that....I'm gonna cue up Stagestruck immediately...thanks bud....
@@chrischoir3594 I doubt you ever saw Rory open for Rush in the 70's...because it never happened...Rush opened for Rory in 74 touring their excellent debut album....in 1982 Rory toured opening for Rush on the Signals tour....I saw them on this tour....Rory wailed....I think Lifeson is great....but I couldn't get into the echoing...phase shifting flanging sound effects here...the next album I thought they were trying to sound like the Police....I much more preferred earlier Rush albums and tours...Rory of course was a constant.....awesome....I'm a life long die hard fan....sorry you think he's boring....
@@chrischoir3594 respectfully disagree...he's an incredible live performer....one of the most underrated and unsung guitar heroes of all time...always stuck to his guns not selling out to commercial sounding crap...and he does have a substantial world wide following of fans who followed him and appreciated him then and now....we all have our opinions...likes and dislikes.....one thing we could agree on...those were the best days to go to shows....
@@chrischoir3594 Are you fuckin nuts? Rory Gallagher was a top 5 guitarist ever and you need to watch his live version of Shadow Play.
I guess I am too old for most of those albums but my number one at least made the charts and I certainly didn't expect that - Gentle Giant Playing the Fool. Merry Christmas and many thanks for all the work you do for us.
Merry Christmas Pete! Thank you for putting in your time to give us this awesome content. You know the list was difficult when Live After Death didn't make the cut.
AC/DC If You Want Blood You Got It, best live album ever.
shit always the same riffs for ac dc
Motörhead No sleep til Hammersmith 😊👍
Great list Pete, and your right. You're #1 pick was no surprise at all. I was surprised that none of the BOC live albums made the Top 25?
Merry Christmas buddy. Your videos are great! I love music like you! Thanks for all the work you put in.
Brilliant, Pete - we agree on the no 1, for sure! Would have added Rainbow - On Stage on the top 10, being the Blackmore-nerd that I am🙂 Love your analysis and I get new album - ideas all the time. Happy New Year!
In no particular order some of my favourite live albums are. Hendrix in the west. Thin Lizzy Live and dangerous, The Rolling stones get your ya ya's out. Queen live killers Aerosmith live bootleg, pink floyd live in pompeii. BB king live at the BBC. The Doors in concert, iron maiden real live one/real dead one. Gary Moore live blues, the who at the lsle of white festival 1970. AC/DC if you want blood, the beatles at the Hollywood bowl, any live Zeppelin, any live rory Gallagher, Stevie Ray Vaughan and double trouble live greatest hits. Plus many more.
Aljax79 Johnston Some great live albums named there - especially nice to see BB King’s Live at the BBC. That was my introduction to his music and my gateway into the Blues. I still love that album.
Surprised that Get Yer Ya Ya's Out didn't get more love. That album really showcases Mick Taylor's talents
Forgot all about Rory Gallagher--Irish Tour 74 belongs in any live album top 5, for sure.
Nobody mentions Dire Straits - Alchemy Live, but to me its one of the best ever Live albums.
I've been waiting for this! Merry Christmas Pete!
Great list Pete. You made me smile with your honourable mention being Humble Pie's Rockin the Fillmore. I would like to add, Full House- J Girls Bands pumping album. Thanks Pete.
J Girls Band?😅
@@CB-xr1eg yes it was a typo, thanks for The correction.
Thanks for all your work for another year. One of my favorite days of the year is waiting for your top picks of the year. Merry Christmas
It's coming today!
Everyone will have their favourites for sure. Mine are: Rare Earth - In Concert / Frampton Comes Alive / Bob Seger - Live Bullet / Stevie Ray Vaughan - Live At Carnegie Hall / Wishbone Ash - Live Dates, plus many mentioned. 👍👍👍😊
Hi Pete perfect live albums, i just add the incredible: Rainbow - Live In Munich (1977) and Live in Paris from AC/DC!
Hey Pete, although we differ in favorites, I enjoy listening to how passionate you are regarding your love for your favorite bands, music, etc. very cool! My favorite s are strangers in the night, all the worlds a stage and live after death. Rick on! \m/
You have a few of the same titles on my list, thanks for sharing.
Live Rust- Neil young. Great balance of acoustic and electric. Great song selection.
Yes. The perfect live album.
Agree Pete Made in Japan the finest live album ever recorded.
There's alot of great bootlegs filmed and recorded of Early Deep Purple. They just always put a different touch on their live performances. The riffs, vocals and drum solos to John Lord's Hammond organ.
Made in Japan? I've had it since 1973 and I've played it about 3 times. Very average.
I've seen your list of 'great' live albums which makes this comment even more ridiculous.
I think part of what made "Made in Japan" so good was it was minimally processed. Pretty much straight from the board.
Thanks for this list Pete. I will give some of those a good listening to. 801 LIVE is my top pick.
Great list. Here are a few I think deserve a mention…
Little Feat - Waiting for Columbus
Neil Diamond - Hot August Night
Atlanta Rhythm Section - Are You Ready
Elvin Bishop - Raisin’ Hell
First of all, I would like to wish you Merry Christmas, and to express my gratitude for advising me (I was using a different nickname) to go and see Deep Purple on this tour! It was a great concert in Belgrade, Serbia, the arena was packed, great crowd, Don, Steve and Roger were on fire! Paice was solid, and Gillan was..you know :)
Anyway, my favorite live albums are Kiss Alive! (although I become a fan because of Alive III) and DP Made in Japan, those bands are so good live, DP's virtuosity and jamming and Kiss's energy are something special - and these are my all time favourite rock bands. And Kiss is one of the few bands that could sound better live than in the studio.
"Johnny Winter And ... Live" and "Captured Live".
some oustanding JW stuff on CZcams. saw him 3 times. a true guitar slinger until about the late 90's, and he slowed down, which was unthinkable! and what monster of a voice. if they ever make a top 100 rock vocalists list, he has to be on it. w/ Leslie West and Chris Robinson, and Paul Rodgers, and Little Richard, Steve Marriott.John Kay. I'll stop now.
great list! many of my favorites here! :)
Pete thanks for live album war, i very much liked it 👍🏻one album i miss in the live album war is ANGEL: (live without a net) ! But any way i enjoy it👍🏻🎅🍻merry christmas to you all!!
Fantastic list. Here are some more of my favorites not discussed:
Porcupine Tree - "Anesthesize"
Jeff Beck - "Live at Ronnie Scott's"
Jeff Beck - "Live with The Jan Hammer Group"
Bruce Hornsby - "Here Come The Noise Makers"
Carlos Santana & Buddy Miles - "Live!"
Miles Davis - "Live Evil"
AC/DC If you want blood- exceptional live album which really captured how they were, Hate his politics to the core but Nugents Double Live Gonzo is in the top 25 and Lynyrd Skynyrd One more from the road- top stuff. Love the channel and the debates etc.
Yes....absolutely....AC/DC....If You Want Blood You've Got It.....Bon Scott....and what is hands down my favorite album cover....Uncle Ted....love his politics....not only Double Live Gonzo but Intensities in Ten Cities as well...( My Love is like a Tire Iron..) .and Lynyrd Skynyrd 's One More For the Road....one of the all time great live albums....." gimme a T for Texas gimme a T for Tennessee "
@@larrynolletti4594 there are a ton of great unofficial Bon Scott era live recordings on CZcams. They could make some great releases if they chose to. Check it out some time if you haven't already.
@@mmk7340 Thanks...yes...I have....a lot of them I have on bootleg disc.....my favorites are Melbourne '74 and San Francisco '77...a killer Up to My Neck in You....yes...there is a ton of great AC/DC languishing...a lot of them were radio broadcasts....If You Want Blood surely should have been a double....I mean...Sin City was a staple and it's not on there....???...
I was a kid when that album came out, but Ted Nugent's Double Live Gonzo, is probably my all-time favorite live album
@@kurthanke5788 ...can't argue with that....I love everything he did thru Scream Dream....I can remember in high school buying Weekend Warrior....looking at this insane ballsy in your face album cover cranking up and hearing Need You Bad...for the first time....I'm telling you that was an adrenaline rush...
Lots of great albums bro! I definitely got lots of spins on material I hadn't listened to for a while and found some gems I never heard too. Thank you and Merry Christmas Pete!
Cool list.
I would've had Bursting Out just b4 the top ten. Also would've tried to make room for The Song Remains The Same.
You do you, I'll do me, that's what it's all about.
Cheers Pete to a joyous New Year.
Grand Funk Railroad - Live Album is the first live album I ever owned. I still listen to it. It is the most honest reproduction of a band live, warts and all.
Good list. BOC on your feet or on your knees would have to be in my top 3 for sure.
It's always been one of my favorites as well.
Thanks Pete, great 25. When I was growing up in the 70s, as a schoolboy couldn’t always afford to buy those studio albums, so some of the time always opted for a live album, just to check out the band before investing in the rest of the catalogue, a formula that worked for me! Only one omission for me Rainbow Live On Stage...can’t complain though, as you got Deep Purple on your list twice! Thanks again.
Thanks for your list Pete....quite honestly I enjoyed the earlier album war matchups more when you talked about each album and gave your pick....really enjoy your insights and comment section....this is a great place for us music nuts to go....hopefully your still going to be doing live chats.....
Made in Japan
Who Live at Leeds
Little Feat Waiting For Columbus
Rolling Stones Get Yer Ya Yas Out
Allman Brothers FilmorebEast
I am so glad Kansas's Two For The Show made the list. I just got that album a couple weeks ago and it's one of my favorite live albums of all time. Huge Kansas fan.
its a wonderful live album.
Greatest live album of all time. I bought it way back just after it was released and have loved it ever since. Even better was the 30th Anniversary version, when a second disc from the same tours was provided. My favourite band after Queen. Second best live album , Genesis’ Seconds Out. Then the rest…….
I knew you would have made in japan at number one. Great choice. Merry Christmas Pete. ;)
Merry Christmas Pete!!
First off, let me say that, while I didnt leave any comments when I voted in the classic Live Album Wars, I let my vote speak for itself. Many great live albums, some Im unfamiliar with, most I knew and/or already own personally.
I enjoyed your Top 25 list and I would make very few changes personally, but as you yourself say, thats the beauty of this whole list anyway right??
Looking forward to more awesome videos from you in 2020, so till then, Keep up the awesome work Mr. Pardo !!
Merry Christmas Pete!
Being a die hard Kiss-fan their live-albums are on top of my personal list.
But then it's close between UFO, Priest, Saxon, Motorhead...and then there are a few which were not mentioned on your wars.
Nevertheless it was great fun and I've enjoyed it very much.
So thank you Pete and merry X-mas
Thanks for you're dedication in classic album war fantastic fun to follow, though I would have no sleep until Hammersmith rather high on the list but it's my personal opinion. Greetings from Sweden happy holidays and a new year.
I can´t argue with you. Deep Purple is the best. Hehe... Great year for you and the channel Pete. You´ve done awesome work and i hope it continues. Happy Holidays!
All worthy selections, especially Made In Japan. That album didn't leave my record player for a decade. But my favorite live Album is still Waiting For Columbus. Has it all, in my opinion.
It is my stuck on an island album.
Merry Christmas Pete!!
All of these picks are good as usual. I agree with you 100% of the time
Great list Pete. I know we had a mini-spat over bands you hate, but KISS Alive! was exactly the same for me, started it all. 1978 Waiau, Hawaii.6th grade, hand me down from my older sister. Took it to a class party and air guitared to Parasite in front of everybody. This album started my rock journey. God bless rock n roll.
The first minutes of "the mule " on Made in Japan before the drums solo are incredible but the drums solo is even more incredible
Just listened to that along with the rest of Made in Japan, yesterday. Was just confirming in my mind what I already knew.Made in Japan = the best live hard rock album ever.
Best heavy metal / hard rock, progressive, aggressive live album
That is a great drum solo. The drum solo on the Tull live album Pete mentioned is really good, too.
Get Yer Ya Ya's Out! Lou Reed Live!
Rock And Roll Animal?
Great list Pete!!! Merry Christmas to and your family!
Hey Pete, I'm so glad you put Band of Gypsys on this list, and specifically mentioned the greatness of that Machine Gun. To me there is almost nothing greater than those soaring guitar moments in that song. Also, Robin Trower live!! That is another GREAT album.
knowing the channel, I'm a bit surprised you didn't mention BOC's On your feet on your knees.
I love "Bursting out" by Tull, I hace it in vynil edition, and it's one of my favorite albums of my collection, wonderful pictures, great edition. And of course "two for the show" love it ¿Why not "the song remains the same" by Led Zeppelin? ¿What about Emerson, Lake and Palmer ”welcome back my friends to the show that never ends"?
Hi Pete, love the video and choices , I hear the Husky in the background, want to see more of the dog
Hey Pete. Just subscribed. Stumbled cross your videos a few week go and have binge-watched a bunch. Keep up the good work
UFO - Strangers in the Night, Scorpions - Tokyo Tapes, Judas Priest - Unleashed in the East, Kiss - Alive, The Allman Brothers - At Fillmore East, Queen - Live Killers, Thin Lizzy - Life live, Uriah Heep - Live '73, Rainbow - On Stage, MSG - One Night At Budokan, Supertramp - Paris, Marillion - Real to Reel, Deep Purple - Made in Japan, Saxon - The Eagle Has Landed, Cheap Trick - At Budokan, Rush - All the World's a Stage, Kansas - Two For the Show, Black Sabbath - Live Evil, Peter Frampton- Frampton Comes Alive, Motorhead - No Sleep Till Hammersmith, Simple Minds - Live in the City of Light, U2 - Under the Blood Red Sky, Dire Straits - Alchemy, The Who - Live at Leeds, Rammstein - Volkerball.
A little disappointed not to see the first live album I ever bought. It's raw, it's powerful and it captures the bands live performance perfectly... I speak of course about the great "Slade Alive!"
I’m with you on Slade Alive. It’s up there with greatest live albums. It’s not better than Live at Leeds and Made in Japan though. It comes very close.
Great episode again Pete . 1) Get Yer Ya Yas out 2) Aztecs Live at Sunbury 3) Lotus -Santana 4) Isle of Wight-Hendrix 5) Johnny Winter and Live 6) Roll n Roll Animal 7) Robin Trower Live 8) Sergio Mendez and Brazil 66 Live at expo Tokyo 70’ 9) Band of Gypsies 10) Frampton Comes Alive
Thumbs up for Santana Lotus - sheer perfection.
Love this channel. It's a good list, but surely If You Want Blood should be there, as should Live in the Air Age.
Live After Death - Iron Maiden : makes my top 3
An underrated gem of heavy live blues rock is Fleetwood Mac’s “Live in Boston” (1970). Doesn’t get much better than the twin guitar attack of Peter Green and Danny Kirwan! Both of them at the top of their game on their Les Pauls.
When you could honestly call the band . FLEETWOOD Mac!!!
The best thing for me about this whole series has been the opportunity to find out about and hear new live albums. One such is Gentle Giant's Playing The Fool; it's only in the past couple of years that I've been getting into their studio albums and this is a revelation on all levels, so thanks Pete! I know there'll be more to come as I pick up other albums from the series.
Playing fool is without a doubt the greatest live album ever.GG is/was the greatest most epic legendary unique genius band ever.
Love At Leeds. The Mighty Who 1970 set the bar very high for live albums by the greatest live band, The Who.
Love LZ's "How The West Was Won," but give me the "Dazed & Confuzed" version from "Song Remains The Same," just incredible!
I totally agree, plus the NO QUARTER version from the same album.
Talking Heads Stop Making Sense is my absolute favorite! listened probably 100 times, can't get enough
Excellent list. Couldn't agree more with your #1 choice. Love how polite and reserved the Japanese audience was, quite a disparity compared to what was happening around them. Also kudos for All the World's a Stage over Exit Stage Left.
Agreed the lineup of Deep purple is legendary that's what makes Made in Japan such a fantastic live album. Thanks for your show in 2019.How about starting 2020 with a greatest hits shootout.Take Care, enjoy Christmas/New Year and stay healthy.
A couple of my favourites that aren't mentioned often, if at all, are FM/Live by Climax Blues Band and Live by Johnny Winter And. Both are absolute killer albums.
I give a thumbs up just for mentioning Climax Blues Band !!!!
Whitesnake - Live In the Heart of the City is up there on my list as well. Just a great listen all the way through.
easily the high point of the 'snakes career
Hi Pete! I've been following your channal for almost a year. You're doing a great job here! 👍 Thanks a lot for all the great reviews, rankings and deep-cuts!
I totally agree with DP - Made in Japan. It will hardly be topped! I wonder you didn't include the Stones - Get Yer Ya-Ya's Out! - a very good and important live album.
Happy holidays Pete! Cheers from Finland, Petri
Made in Japan fantastic Album was a masterpiece at the time probably my Favourite live album also
Rory Gallagher.... Irish Tour 73. Master peace
Wow...
I just listen to the scorpions live Polar Nights
Omg.....Uli tears it up man..
Thank you
Totally agree with your number one choice and your comments about it. Also, as someone who usually prefers live albums over studio albums, I'm somewhat surprised I only have 15 of your top 25. I need to get a few more by the sound of it.
