Pac-Land is a side-scrolling platform game where the player must make it to the end of each stage, avoiding enemies and other obstacles, to return a lost fairy back to its home in Fairyland.
Pac-Land was released in another game compilations and through online services of another systems but these versions are discluded because are emulation of versions already present in this video.

More Pacman Games !!!!!!
I like the Arcade Version.
It's really like Winnie the Pooh on soyuzmultfilm on 1969 to 1972
But same here
.
The existence of Churches in Pac-Land implies that there was a Pac-Jesus, who died for the Pac-People's sins.
Funny in every version but in the us-arcade
I know right! but did you know that Pac-Man looks just like Pac-Jesus but really he's just a naughty boy.
lol
That's my new pac headcanon
So there’s a Pac-God?
All these years and I didn't know about the hydrant hat!
I didn’t know either, nor did I know the plane ghosts could drop Galaxians as seen in the SharpX68000 footage.
Bruh
@@JackTheGamer3 I used to play it in the arcade. Also, time the jump at the end for a huge bonus! All about the points!!
@@welshtechie6832lucky
Also on a couple of stages you can push back a cactus or tree stump to get the helmet.
There are also a couple stages where you push back a tree stump and get invisibility for about 10 seconds.
And returning home, push back a hydrant, cactus or tree stump for a set of ballons, one of which is a 7650. If you get the correct colored balloon for a 7650, then all remaining balloons captured are also 7650.
And a couple stages where Pac-man is returning home you can sometimes get an 'S' for an extra Pac-man. You have to rub against the cactus as you jump with your super shoes, or rub against the cliffs with your super shoes.
I always wanted a bonus stage or two on Pac-land where Pac-man could try out the different vehicles the monsters use.
It feels like they didn't even try with the nes version
Remember people, this came out almost a year, before Super Mario Bros.
How did they do the legs when Pac-Mans walking??, It was preety smooth.
@@derpthederp9100 his artwork vs his in game sprite look really good and the translation was pretty seamless!
Pacman’s pac-land sprites (arcade/tg16) are probably the best limbed pacman sprites ever. I even made a 16-bit sprite sheet of it
@@SSKO2 exactly, to me it’s how he should be portrayed in sprites, minus the hat
@@Nic_2751 they could’ve used that for pacman’s most recent statue. Instead, it’s just a 2D pixelated cheese sprite
Poor ghosts, just trying to get to work and then Pacman shows up.
But he's trying to get to work too
The ghosts try to run me over with cars,
Everybody gangsta till the nes port looks like garbage for once
And the atari port looks better
Nintendo Seal of Quality
Its an ollllld namcot famicom game pre super mario bros
@@bear.gaming
Atari Lynx yes
Atari ST crap
Blame The NES Graphics, & I'll Show You How Being Shot By The NES Zapper Feels!
Interesting: Some versions reproduced the scrolling of the original, even down to the parallax scrolling. But other versions just settled for a "slideshow" approach.
i believe the ZX and MSX weren't good at scrolling graphics, tricks it could be done but the game would of played much slower.
This could have made for a fantastic port on the Atari 7800. Early 8-bit era platformer, I'm stunned it didn't happen. Pre-Super Mario Bros. (1984)
Homebrew idea!
I remember playing the NES version.
It was pretty... Ugly.
Vins? In the wild??? You watch these videos too?
It's on fanicom
Ikr and even worser, the B and A buttons are to make pac man move and the arrows are to make him jump, DAFAQ!?😕😡
It had no license, because it's from tengen
@@AdriaticTokoru bruh I can think of good games by tengen like Rolling Thunder, Gauntlet, and Tengen Tetris and you gotta tell me they developed a poorly game on the famicom?
And on the seventh day Pac-Man rested, for it was Break Time.
I remember playing the arcade version. But also playing it on the C64. That wasn’t a bad conversion.
Such an underrated game.
I need to play this game now. I should find a TurboGrafx emulator or a home computer emulator to run it on and give it a go.
Jason Lee Nope.
And for 1984, one hell of a good looking game.
Nah man get MAME emulator Or a PS1 Emulator
Well it’s at least better then the NES port
The Turbo grafx 16 version is gotta be hands down the best port ever
it looks / sounds like a number of cut backs were made in the TG port
@@jasonlee7816 it added new stuff
But did you know that you move right with the II button, move left with the I button, and jump with right on the d-pad?
@@dayanemenezes300 what? They didn't do the controls right?
No the Sharp X68000
Update this to include the Arcade Archives and Pac-Man Museum+ versions. Although both versions are virtually identical to the original arcade versions, there are two minor changes that some may not notice. Ms. Pac-Man and Baby Pac-Man were both replaced by Pac-Mom and Pac-Sis. This is because of Bandai Namco's ongoing dispute with AtGames for the Ms. Pac-Man trademark
Goddamnit AtGames Sucks They Released Multiple Terrible Terrible Plug And Plays They Also They're Own Terrible Sega Genesis Mini After Those Minis Failed So Hard Because It Had 40 Original Games By Them And It Had Terrible Terrible Audio Quality God I Hate Them When They Do Stupid Stuff
Imagine assuming the game is bad just because of the Smash Bros stage...
@La Von Hawkins I would’ve preferred Pac-Village
It even came out before Super Mario Bros. and would go on to inspire it, so suck it Nintendo fanboys
@La Von Hawkins Pac-Maze is great and all, but I prefer Pac-Land simply due to the obscure factor. Not many people outside of the big Pac-Man geeks know about Pac-Land, so giving it some more exposure is really cool imo. It would have been nice to have a remix of the Pac-Land theme to go along with it, though.
I didn't know the NES version, that was... Unexpected ! I also didn't remember the Amstrad CPC version, which looks quite good, had no scrolling, totally ruining it. I think I played it a couple of times on some compilation but I never really liked this game. It was probably great for the short time before Super Mario Bros appeared.
Yes! It's slower and laggier
It was the inspiration for it
@@leap123_ Kasumi Nakasu played PacLand also.
it's ironic that the c64 version looks better then the nes one.
@@theimortal1974 From what I've read, this game was only ported officially to the Famicom. Nintendo built early Famicom cartridges with little storage space to keep costs down, so Namco probably had to cut down on graphics to help make this game fit. The Commodore 64 also had a lot more onboard RAM to work with than the Famicom (64 KB vs 2 KB), which Grandslam probably took full advantage of.
Lynx pulled off the scrolling background!! Impressive machine for the time. Love the Lynx!
Little bit of trivia: the US version of Pac-Land was modeled after the "Pac Man" cartoon at the time (which is why Chomp-Chomp the dog is in the opening screen, US Pac Man's nose is shorter than JP Pac Man, and why the Pac Family have hair/blue bow (US Baby Pac)--JP Ms. Pac Man has no hair, and JP Baby Pac is female with red bow). Also, JP Pac-Land has an ending, US Pac-Land keeps cycling through levels.
Also PC engine version has an ending
I like both US and JP Pac-Man, and I think the reason why the JP Pac-Man is more used is that Hannah Barbera haves the rights to Pac-Man's design on the cartoon
@@kajioukun They do but when Namco wanted to do a US version, Hanna-Barbers were open to Namco using the US designs. When they did “Pac Man: The New Adventures” they did a rework where the first kid was “Jr. Pac Man” (aka “Pac Baby #1”) and Pac Baby #2 was the daughter. One could argue the US Cartoon came just before Ms. Pac Man told Pac Man she was pregnant again.
@@soniccourtney2171 Didn’t the JP/World versions have an ending too? I thought only the US version kept looping.
@@theodorehsu5023 ugh the ending for the Japanese is just crashing
To be honest, nes version could've been way better
And it would've been better if the controls switched
Could’ve been a re-edition

@@nicthecat An 3D Modeling Software for Windows, "Anim8or". It's free and It doesn't take much Space, pretty much every computer can run it, I think even Windows XP.
it looks like it was made on baldi basics lol
The NEC PC-800 even has parallax scrolling, I'm surprised! Also the Atari Lynx has, but that's a different thing, it's a quite powerful and 16bit system...
I friggin love the title screen theme in the lynx version
My tip for the Famicom version is that you gotta have two controllers plugged in. Push start on the first player controller, and use the second one to play.
The Famicom technically always has two controllers plugged in... excluding the AV models.
Why?
@@johnleone1996yeah, why?
@@TheWASHINGMACHINEBOYThe arcade version of Pac-Land didn’t have joystick controls, and it used buttons instead.
Tengen wanted to replicate this, for some reason.
@@basicallysnake ok
i dont quite understand the unanimous hatred for the famicom/nes port. i think it's main problem is rly just the color which is kinda unavoidable due the the famicom's hardware as evident in a lot of namcot's other ports and a lot of famicom games at the time that are ports of similar, colorful arcade games. i think making pac man small was a good call too cause if u notice that the other 8bit ports have pac mans head big but with practically no legs and waddling around on lil feet while the famicom port has him small but still with legs like the arcade. i think the game also controls pretty great and some of the graphics are pretty nice(i like the simplicity of the houses and the blue and green hills in the bridge levels) but i also agree that they couldve made a better port especially with things they cut out like the scene of the fairy giving u the boots and removing pac man's family and the door to the fairy land -_- i think its a pretty decent port considering how early it came out and that it obviously cant compete with the pc engine port, it looks different enough and has its own lil charm. like compare it to the port of yokai dochuki on famicom and pc engine where both look similar to the arcade but because of that there's like no reason to even ever buy the famicom port if u have the pc engine since its inferior in every way since its a direct imitation of something that the pc engine can and does way better.
The best version of Pac-Land - PC Engine/TurboGrafx 16
until Atari Lynx (1991)
Sharp X68000 (1994)
PS1 Namco Museum
Amiga could’ve had the best port (version)
if it wasn’t based on Atari ST port (version)
IMO x68000 & Lynx both versions with parallax scrolling, TurboGrafx16 third.
The TurboGrafx 16 version is a pretty good port in my opinion, even despite not having parallax scrolling
1. PS1 / X68000
2. TurboGrafx-16
3. Atari Lynx
Great video but no jumping at the end of the level for bonus points.......?
I know. That was bugging me too.
Some of the ports were criminal mind, I remember firing it up on my amstrad as it was one of my fave arcades as a kid, and, yeah, loaded it up, had a play, CTRL+SHIFT+ESC within a minute I think, if that long... Never played it again! Hats off to the TurboGrafx-16, they nailed it, and I still play it via that emulator in OpenEmu! :)
That Amiga version is clearly an ST port which was a shame as the Amiga could have done so much more
@@Kestrel029a prototype of the Amiga version got leaked a while ago, and it revealed much better graphics and gameplay
I didn't know there was a nes version until one week ago when they gave me a bootleg nes
ha! me to.
i got it on the super mini sn02 snes mini knockoff along with the bootleg pokemon platformers
i got a arcade mini phone called "Sup"
I didn't realize they changed pac man for the US version to match the cartoon...
The TurboGrafx-16 has the BEST translation to the original arcade port ever. The only differences is how the UI is placed and the color palette it uses.
no parallax scrolling
PacLand in NAMCO MUSEUM VOL 4 version is underrated. Kasumi Toyama ever scored 568980pts in that game and reached Round 79.
Yes. Ai Miyashita reached Round 144 in PacLand.
As usual Amstrad and MSX owners get shafted once again.
And the Spectrum - absolutely no reason why it couldn't have scrolled.
Nintendo had the most accurate music for the actual tv show
Does anyone know if you can get the new hat by pushing the hydrant on the 8-bit computer versions? I played the speccy one, and I had no idea that you could get that item
Considering this person didn't go out of their way to get it in those versions... probably not. They're quite soulless ports, so it's not surprising.
Turbografx 16 is my favorite game, i'm pulling the first hydra and blue hat appeared.
If i'm playing Pac-Man 2 on SNES, it Will be gonna be easy
It's crazy how we think of these older arcade games to be in the same category of the 8-bit consoles, but watching the NES footage shows how arcade games really blew them out of the water in terms of processing but also look.
Both the US & JP Arcade and Playstation versions for me. They're truly equal to each other.
The only difference for what I see is its eyes.
@@alejandroschnettler1794 That's too good to be true.😊👍
The Japanese (Arcade) version of Pac - Land is in my opinion MUCH BETTER
2:12 Namcot
Pretty fascinating! 👍🏻
My Favorite Version Turbograf x-16
And the 3 worst versions of Pac-Land are:
3: NES 2:02
2: ZX Spectrum 9:10
1: MSX 10:39
Yea
Someday, Pac-Land ought to get a sequel!
Well, it was tied to the new pac man tv show at the time so I don’t think they will make a sequel
Great video! Even the ZX Spectrum has a nice version of this game.
It's got to be 128k though, I dread to think what a 48k version was like!
What I say: czcams.com/video/Hwz7YN1AQmQ/video.html
@@contactacb Yup, it's 128k, you can see by scrolling the video bar
1. Arcade: It's perfect as always. Pacman's face is cute, especially at the end. He has little nose and a little red hat.
2. Arcade (Japan): Pacman's face is not that cute. He has big nose and a bit larger brownish hat.
I prefer the non Japan version.
3. Sharp: Very good, it's almost identical to the Arcade version except the picture is narrower and Pacman has big nose. (which I don't like, but it's not a big problem)
4. Playstation: It's like the Sharp version, but the picture size (also the resolution?) is smaller. But, Pacman has little nose.
5. TurboGrafix: Really good, but it's not that good like the previous versions. The background has simplier graphics. The game area is zoomed.
6. Atari: The scroll is not really good, the enemy sprites are different, the audio is ok. Pacman sometimes smiles. It's better than the Amiga version, which is rare!
7. Amiga: The scroll here is also not really good, (bad for an Amiga), the graphics are identical to the Atari version. The audio is not the real one, but it's ok. Pacman has only one face, which looks angry.
8. C64: Very nice for this machine. Pacman has face expressions in the different situations. The sound could have been better.
9. NES: It's good. One of the smoothest scroll. But, Pacman's face is always angry.
10. NEC: Less colors would have been better. The graphics are a bit ugly this way. Pacman looks not really kind.
11. Amstrad: No scroll. (better off without that) The sounds are not any good. The graphics are ok, a bit dark though.
12. Atari Lynx: It has a too low resolution and because of this, the graphics are a bit ugly. I think the developers did their best though. It's not that bad, if you can stand this pixel face.. :)
13. MSX: It's like the Spectrum version, but somehow it's better.
14. Spectrum: Usually the worst version. But, it's not that bad game on this machine.

i like how this is the first game to ever use a variable walking speed so to do this they probably used control sticks instead of joysticks

@@TheWASHINGMACHINEBOY Now that I've actually played this game, I can say its controls aren't bad-just different from what most platformers use today. You don't need to mash the directional buttons most of the time since you can simply hold the correct button to maintain your current speed. That said, you'll need to mash to get up to speed or change direction as well as to glide farther off a springboard.
@@reillywalker195 yeah. the furthest i have gotten is the springboard in trip 1
@@TheWASHINGMACHINEBOY Yeah, that springboard is a real killer. I'm not sure how you've played this game, but I know in _Pac-Man Museum +_ that you can opt to map your jump to the stick or D-pad and your run to the face buttons. Doing that made the springboard sections easier for me, so much so that I've gotten as far as the start of Trip 4.

NEC PC-8001mkll SR: Glitched graphics, not smooth scroll, and CRT filter.
Commodore 64: Decent conversion, it's okay with his limitations.
Amstrad CPC: Literally the same as Commodore 64, but not scroll and some changes in the colors.
Amiga: *WHY THIS IS WORST THAN COMMODORE 64* ?!?!
Atari ST: Literally the same as Amiga, but, better music!
