Hey guys, it's Benni's turn again!
Today I will show you how to get into Blender (2.8) and start with 3D modeling and printing for cosplay! This video turned out a little bit longer than usual but I hope I could answer most open questions. If there is anything else you want to know, just send me your questions!
Have fun sculpting!

I don't deserve to watch this for free. The ways you took on modeling from a reference is the same way we did in school, just that you managed to smack it all in in a 35 min long video. And you've only used it for months? Man, you're a genius. Well done and thank you a lot, I learned some tips and tricks from this video. Especially the part about how to make something hard-surface (the way you played around with the Mean-crease), which even our school didn't add in! Once again thanks for the video and god bless your modeling and tutoring skills!
Oh what times we live in. :) Where you learn stuff easier for free on the internet than in school, haha. Glad if it was helpful!
buy their bookksss lol.
@@KamuiCosplay for my applied graphics uni module we had to learn blender, and you've managed to go into more detail than any of my two lecturers did
Trevia Hush. Silence. DON’T tell him that ... Are you crazy!?!? Now he will start charging for his excellent content. And it will be all your fault! Pitchforks at the gate young man. 😀. Seriously, I could not agree with you more. I am just starting myself and this is hands down the best video on modeling I have found. A really excellent video.
I second that lol. Learned 3d modelling and all that in university and this was way easier xD
This video was my intro to 3D modelling. 3 years later i'm now setting up my own wearable art fantasy sci-fi fashion brand and I'm fluent with 3D modelling, printing, animation and VFX. Thank you for the great introduction to this world and for helping me to discover & kickstart my passion! 💛 These past 3 years have flown by so quickly.
For anyone who is just starting out with 3D modelling - keep at it, watch a ton of CZcams vids, and bring your ideas to life! Also happy to answer any modelling questions you might have just drop me a message.
Dude that's so awesome! Never would have expected this when I uploaded the video but I'm so happy I could introduce you to this 😁
@@KamuiCosplay thank you again 😁💛 and me neither I never would have expected this at the time either haha! I hope to inspire others when I create videos about my artwork the same way you guys inspired me (also I hope you're enjoying Japan!)
what’s your brand called? i’m so interested
@@kirigoemima thank you for the interest 🥰 it's called Divine Radiance Eternal
@kurt 634 do you know how benni put all three views into one image using photo shop at 1:24 of his video ?
Damn, first video on blender with all necessary things to know in one video !
and dont forget that it's all wraped in a confy 35min video!
I've seen some blenders tutorials that have 20 videos of 10 min each xD
You took the word right out of my mouth. that is exactly how i feel.
I think a separate Benny's Blender Tutorials Channel is well justified by this video. This was fantastic!
problem is.. he'll do 2-3 more videos and there's going to be no more need for blender tutorials ever. xD
It would be nice for different props! How he models them and a step by step of how he does it
"Really short time to make a wife really happy". What an amazing conclusion. This tutorial is just great. Thank you.
Was gonna say that xD
This one video just undid a whole college semester’s worth of negative (graphic design related) emotions. Thank you giving me the confidence to start experimenting with 3D modeling again!
hi do you know how benni put all three views into one image using photo shop at 1:24 of his video ?
This should be part of a series caled "How to make your wife realy happy".
Part 1 tell everyone to buy her books
Part 2 put the toilet seat down
@@itsagundam79 part 3: pee all over the toilet seat.
Part 4 shit in the sink
@@hammadraws this got out of hand
Great job, loved the video and the straight to the point style :) Would love to see more like these!
I'm getting blender tonight. This is exactly what I needed to know.
You guys do so much for the cosplay community. Thanks for everything! Every book I've purchased has been WELL worth it! Keep it up!
I went from looking at Blender's interface with a dull sense of dread to making part of the Paladin Artifact shield in 35 minutes and 37 seconds.
This guide was just incredible. Take my kudos, my thanks and my firstborn.
I used Blender when I was studying my diploma almost 6 years ago now. I actually majored in VFX instead of 3D during my bachelor's degree, but watching you 3D model has really made me want to go back into it! Thank you so much for inspiring me! :D
Great tutorial.
g is for grab, e is for extrude.
The part about smoothing and subdividing is exactly what I needed. It was the last piece of the puzzle I needed. Thanks so much, Guys!!!
hi do you know how benni put all three views into one image using photo shop at 1:24 of his video ?
The hairspray/toothpick technique results were fantastic. Great job!
this is EXACTLY what i needed to start using blender. Short, informative, straight to the point, basic use and most importantly the key shortcuts. TYSM!
Only 4 minutes in and can tell this tutorial is awesome. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!! I am a newbie at Blender and 3D printing and this is such a great introduction. I have bought lots of your books. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
it's been a month since the moment i saw this video... and I'm already doing outstanding stuff with blender, thanks to you benni, thank you
This was absolutely what I needed to start using blender after watching hours of tutorials and frustration. Great 35 minute video.
Great work. It's fun to see how people use Blender for so many different things and especially to see how a "new" user like yourself goes about things. I've been using Blender for 12 years and I still learned some stuff from your video!!!!
Thanks for this video. I second everyone’s comments about how useful this video is, especially for us beginners. You did a fantastic job!
Amazing tutorial man. I have been trying to learn Blender for months now to make props I can 3D print and this made things so much easier for me. I really appreciate this video brother, you guys are awesome. Subbed!!
I just started to use a blender, this is an excellent tutorial for those of us that need to draw the shapes properly from reference images.
This is a fantastic tutorial, you managed to cover so much in 35 minutes but did it in a way that makes it easy to understand and follow. I found blender to be difficult to understand as the user interface was a lot to get my head around but now I feel I know enough to start modelling. Thanks Benni !!
Glad to help! :D
Never clicked on a video so fast
Ingenius! And your trick of bridging, connecting and creating planes from vertices solved an early modelling issue I faced. Thank you!!!! You saved me hours...maybe days!
Not to parrot off the other comments but, thank you for actually contributing just the stuff relevant to the title of the video. I actually feel more confident in going into try and model some things now
Also Blender 2.8 is actually out of beta and fully available now. Best time to start
This is by far the most useful video I’ve ever seen in my life😅
So, I was looking for good tutorials on using Blender to make figurines for 3D printing like a month ago, and never found anything that didn't seem overwhelming from the start. flash forward to today, and I know a LOT more about the process, from a half hour video! You rock at this!
I've nearly made a whole set of armour for 3D printing using the example in the video
You done a really gold job getting across how to 3D model. It's opened so many doors for me and saved me having to buy my prints too!
To those who already know how to use the interface of Blender:
Skip to 12:58 to get started.
to be fair, we dont even need to know the interface, since after that, benni just show as step by step how to do everything else xD
although it's nice to know where the heck we are standing too xD
And if you already sort of know how to use blender, but might not know everything, go to 29:20 for a tip on how to use mean -crease with sub div surf xd
i hwo a doubt though... maybe some of you guys could help me... In the end, of the video, the model has mass.. it's solid, not a plane.. how do u do that? Since saving a mere plane in stl wont give good results =/
Gon Garcia 26:50 He just extruded the border edges at this point but you have to keep extruding to the inside to model thickness using the same techniques he showed before.
@@leecaste Depending what you're going for you could also just use the solodify modifier
That's impressive work all the way around. I'm not having such an easy time modeling but it is just not intuitive for me. I'd love to see more of your Blender work and printing. Very satisfying to watch. Subscribed!
Only just came across this video while looking for some reference guides to use Blender and have to say this is one of the best tutorials covering the basics in such a quick and easy to understand method.
I think this is the first Blender tutorial I've actually been able to grasp. Thank you!
Bless this video. You turned something that I always thought was incredibly difficult into something that's really not so bad at all. I successfully modeled an entire Mandalorian helmet using what you taught, and it was the first thing I ever modeled. Thank you!
I’ve been wanting to make my own model for cosplay but was terrified by all of the super long videos but yours wasn’t as long as the others and was really helpful with walking me through blender to start! Thank you so much
Thank you!!!! No words to describe the huge favor you've done to me with this video.
Now on, you are my hero!
Dude I swear that 6 hours ago. I was having a problem with a model I made and I was afraid to subsurface divide it because I didn’t want to lose what I created to smoothness. I watched hundreds of videos went to forms. Then randomly watched this video because I wanted to learn how to make helmets. Then boom at 29:50 you solved my problem from earlier😂. Your doing gods work my friend thank you 🙏🏾
thank you so much! Ive been working with blender for about six months, and this tutorial was really helpful, it helped fill in some blanks I had regarding the software.
I love Benny tutorials
I think this is the blender tutorial I have been waiting for! Thanks so much. You guys are always inspiring.
if my future husband or wife doesnt help me with my cosplay, lifes not worth it.
Benni you are a great guy there should be more people like you
Again, thank you so much for this tutorial benni, it is incredibly well done, I understood everything perfectly and thanks to you I can now model in blender, thank you so much!!
You saved my life with the Vertex Crease thing
You guys are S A I N T S, thank you imparting us with knowledge to achieve our modeling/cosplay dreams!
Great video thanks!I love the way you introduce the important parts of Blender. I will watch this again and again.
IVE BEEN BLESSED I’ve been stressing at this prop because my brain just can’t think of it outside of a 2D image. This will be SO helpful for me. And today was the day that I learned that Blender was free, I thought it was a paid for program. 😭
I'm SO glad it's free !
I don't even plan on working with Blender in the near future but I watched your video anyways because it's really interesting to see how it's done. Wow!
I had tried a few years ago with Blender and I was having some problems getting used to it. Recently I have been using 2.8 Beta and I feel so much more confident with it now after all the changes. Thank you for sharing 8)
If you want the ABSOLUTE Essentials of 3D modeling in blender in general, THIS! is the video to go to! Thank you so much!! I was able to create some of my own cosplay stuff Because of THIS!!!
That‘s so great to hear! ☺️☺️☺️
You don’t know how much I appreciate you for the amazing tutorial.
Followed you step by step in making the the head piece, I just need to make the inner supports
Thank You so much,
AMAZING VIDEO…
Thank you so much for this video, I'v been looking for something like this for SO LONG.
You forgot about Shift+[z/x/y] in Move/Rotate/Scale tools. If you want to move on a plane, not axis, you shift press it. G -> Shift+z to move on a horizontal plane.
And to get rid of a vertices, you can dissolve them. X->Dissolve Vertices.
And you can just drag images in.
All good tips, thanks!!!
This is so far my favorite video on how to use blender
This was so extremely helpful! Can't wait to start working on my own modeling project!
Your tutorial is so helpful! I couldn't find any others that would teach me the things that I wanted to learn!
This was really helpful! Have some projects that I am looking to work on and I definitely need to learn how to do this! It's great to see this and read the book as well, thanks guys!
Finally! An actual tutorial using simple tools. Blender is so over wehlming. I'm trying to make my first helmet from my 3d head sculpt, it would be cool to see you do a full helmet using the same process.
Thank you so much for making this topic so accessible!! I was avoiding trying to learn Blender because of the difficult learning curve, but this has made me excited to try it. You guys are awesome!
Thank you so much for this. I use CAD-tools for technical constructions, but you sparked my curisoty for the creative side of 3D-modelling.
This might be the one of the best "getting started with"-blender tutorials in general. ...my opinion of what I saw so far.
Thank you! :)
Appreciate you sharing this info. Been undecided for 3D model software but your video and tutorial has helped me, so thank you, my dude! 😉👍
this looked so easy and straight forward! I want to try it right now! thank you very much for this video. I tried to follow tutorials in the older blender version but this 2.8 looks so much friendlier.
Oh it definitely is more user friendly
This video is awesome! Thank you so much for sharing this with all of us Benni!
This is the first time I see a video by Benni... you guys have the exact same energy when presenting/talking ^^
Thank you for doing this video. It's so easy to follow and has everything I need to know. Time to play around with Blender for a while XD
Alles was man wissen muss in einem Video verpackt. Absolut genial! Ihr seid die besten!
Freut uns, dass es dir so sehr gefällt! :)
thank you for coming to Australia KamuiCosplay!! it was really cool seeing you guys at Supanova!
I got a 3d printer for Christmas this last year. I've been really intimidated to try teaching myself 3D modeling in blender, but this video makes it seem possible for anyone! Thank you so much for this amazing info. The print piece prep and finishing techniques were also great. Thanks you guys!
Glad if it's helpful
I got more information from the first 8 minutes of this video than the first 6 tutorial videos on Blenders on youtube channel. Sometimes I don't need the to know where every tool and sub-tool is yet when I am first getting started. I will discover them as needed and I want to get my hands dirty actually sculpting something. Can you just continue making real world examples of how to use Blender? I am just getting started and this has been, by far, the best tutorial I have seen using their program. Seriously. Even if you make your own channel.
You Guys are AWESOME. Thank you for this tutorial it's exactly what I needed to get started modeling for my own cosplay.
This video is amazing! So helpful. Thank you Benni.
Thanks, both of you! This is super helpful and was really needed (As a blender noob, I had the same trouble trying to find good tutorials ). Blender is free so I hope this tutorial encourages people into cosplay/3D modeling!
fiona kelly you should definitely check Blender Guru youtube channel or his website (even some of his tuts are a bit old) ;-)
Other good resources are CGcookie (maybe a bit technical and sometimes boring), and Gleb Alexandrov (freaking cool artist in my opinion). If you want to start sculpting take a look to Yan Sculpts, or CG Boost by Zacharis Reinhardt. Hope it helps and have a nice blending! :-)
honestly man you should start a series or channel dedicated to the more tech-y side of cosplay. Your Photoshop Tutorial was great, and this video is amazing and super useful. Most people focus on the whole sewing, foam crafts, painting, wigs side of things but this kind of information is super helpful
I'll just upload more here :)
Hands down the best video for blender I’ve came across
Thank you so much Benni! If you guys write a book on modeling... I'll buy it.
I mean, I own all of your other books soooooooo.....
Benny you truly are an inspiration, saving this tutorial, blender is in my to learn list
This was super helpful! you are so knowledgable about this stuff Benny!
Now this is the first of its kind video which has include all the essential knowledge of modelling from importing to texturing.Thank you
I didn’t include texturing but thanks 🤫
@@KamuiCosplay but you illustrate us how we can add them😊
Thanks man! This answered a few questions I had about blender and how to use it for this purpose!
This is so helpful! I'm going to download blender immediately and safe up for a 3D printed. Thank you for inspiring an teaching 🙌
Great Video, over 2 years old and still the best I've seen for this. Thanks much.
I like to watch these types of videos as it gives me more ways to model and brings life to my models
Amazing job! So clear and clever! I am ready to try Blender!
This is the tutorial I needed so badly, thank you so much! I got a printer about a year ago, and I've worked out the printing side, but I've had to get my friend to make the files for me as I'm just lost!
All the informations I needed for 3d modeling in 35 min!! Thanks Benny!!👏
Well not all of them but hopefully a good start x)
Thank you! I've been waiting for a video like this for a while.
Thank you so much Benni! I've been so intimidated to use Blender. And that would make me wait around until someone else came out with the file instead
But this tutorial has helped me and I'm willing to try it on something simple now.
Please more videos like this. This is an excelent tutorial in how to start to use 3d modeling.
Wonderful video. And it's nice to see Benni from time to time. :)
U guys are simply amazing! I'm definitely gonna buy some of your books
Thank you so much for this tutorial!! I don't know if I'll ever be able to 3D print but I'm glad I have this knowledge for the off chance that I might!
It’s not going away so there is plenty of chance
thank you so much for this video, I was lost on all this and now I feel like I could design something, really great.
I absolutely love this channel. subscribing forever. booyah!
Amazing video! I can't wait to start making models in blender now
You made it seem to easy! I just built the printer yesterday I don't even know how to print anything but I came here to see what you guys were doing with Blender anyway xD
You are way ahead of the 3d modeling learning curve. Cool video.
Thank you for making this video!!!!! I’ve been wanting to try making simple models to 3d print but I had no idea what to do.
awesome work ill be coming back to rewatch as I try to use blendr for my own projects.
Thank you for the great tutorial! You both are such an inspiration!
