Very nice explanation. I have a problem with my car ( same model ) except throttle body is electronically controlled . Rpm drops when headlights or ac blower is turned on and car starts to vibrate. Throttle body clean done, maf sensor clean done. Air filter is also ok.
1. Why does my idle drop when I turn my headlights on?
Electrical loads like headlights (which are a big electrical load) cause a mechanical load on the engine. The harder your alternator works, the harder the engine has to work to spin it. Therefore when you turn the headlights on, your engine has to work harder and the idle drops as a result.
2. Why does my RPM drop when AC is on?
The idle speed initially drops because the A/C Compressor is driven by a belt connecting it to the crankshaft and requires some of the engine's power to drive it. Your vehicle, however, have a mechanism to detect this rpm change under the A/C Compressor load and will bring the rpm back to normal.
3. How do you fix a rough idle when AC is on?
Here is the procedure of fixing rough idle when AC is on:
Open the car hood.
Access the throttle body.
Have a friend or colleague turn the key to the “On” position, but don't start the car engine.
Request the helper to slowly press on the accelerator.
Next is to spray the throttle body cleaner on a rag and or cloth.

You do the need to disconnect the battery, as long as you do not cycle the key
Was that a jis screwdriver bit? Ive did this on my civic and used a impact driver with a regular Phillips head and it worked ok. I also did it with the throttle body still on. Nice trick with the bolt going in so the coolant wouldn't spill 🤙

Hello my friend. The green liquid that ran from the 2 tubes when they were disconnected is coolant. In most cases this is done to keep the throttle plates from freezing when it's cold outside. The coolant running through there can provide a lot more heat than is normally available without it, even with a cold vehicle.
I have a 2013 Camry se 4 cylinder that sometimes vibrates at idle but only in gear, it goes away in park. Could this be the problem? Thanks
My car stalls after a long highway drive with AC on. Like after 2+ hours of fast driving. This happens only in summers. Drives again after a break. Problem only when AC is on. No errors on scanner. No problem with anything else.
Should I be looking at IAC valve?
It could be caused by a dirty throttle body, a bad cooling fan, or a dirty/damaged IAC valve
I cleaned mine without removing it all together. Worked great. But is it better to completely remove it?

Before removing sensor grips you should remove battery negative terminal.
If the ignition switch is off which means that no electricity is flowing then it is not necessary to disconnect the negative battery terminal.

My friend, among the potential underlying causes are vacuum leaks, EGR system malfunctions, malfunctioning oxygen sensors, dirty fuel injectors, fuel pump malfunction, faulty spark plugs, a faulty mass airflow sensor, or a faulty throttle position sensor.
This procedure only applies only to cable operated throttle body. For fly by wire throttle one has to do throttle reset procedure as well.
What is a fly by wire throttle body?
Throttle by wire
Accelerate-by-wire or throttle-by-wire, more commonly known as electronic throttle control, is a system that actuates vehicle propulsion without any mechanical connections, such as cables, from the accelerator pedal to the throttle valve of the engine or other propulsion systems.
What is the difference between fly by wire and cable throttle?
The main difference between a drive-by-wire and a drive-by-cable system is that there is almost no mechanical linkage between the engine and the accelerator in a drive-by-cable system. On the other hand, a drive-by-wire system includes an electronic signal that tells the engine how much power it should generate.
You just explained it. 'Fly by wire' is is electronic way of controlling throttle body by stepping motor controlled by computer, which opens and closes the throttle plate, as opposed to mechanical cable connected to gas pedal. This system doesn't use idle control valve since the stepping motor opens the throttle by needed percentage. Pretty much all cars after 2010 use Electronic Throttle Body. On North American Corolla 1.8L the conventional throttle body was used until 2006, later models use 'fly by wire' stepping motor throttle body.
But when you clean the throttle plate, the computer has to learn new feedback points for the idle or the idle speed will be very high. On Corolla it usually takes two/three drive cycles to re-learn proper idle RPMs. Some suggest with key in ON position to press the acceleration pedal slowly to the floor and slowly release it, but I didn't find it necessary. The only negative thing about this system is that Electronic Throttle Body costs way, way more money. Also sometimes the acceleration pedal dies. The one I changed last time in some X1 or X3 BMW was some $150 for gas pedal 🤨
I have a 2002 toyota corolla e12, 1.4vvti and issue is that when car cold runs fine but when warms up to temp it starts to shake abit and revs go very low between 1000 and 0 rpms maybe I would say around 500rpms what could be the issues if you could let me know other then air filter, maf sensor, what else could it be also some times it installs it put in reverse or 1st gear to move off and its not that I pick clutch quick or any thing so not sure why it does that

Always remove all accessible electrical connections 1st, then rubber hoses, then remove the throttle body.
If you don't remove electrical connections 1st, then start to pull the body you could break a wire and then you might need a new loom. 😮👍

Iv a Corolla verso 2006 1.6 vvti with intermittent misfire in cylinder 3, it’s not a coil or an injector and it was down in compression to 100 when I checked but I need to check again when it’s running fine to see if compression reading is up at that time, It runs perfect sometimes and doesn’t matter if it’s hot or cold 🤷🏼♂️

My friend most likely the problem you are facing is low compression in the 3rd cylinder. You have worn cylinder springs and they need replacing. The following video will help you understand it better

I have a question, my brothers corolla s idles rough and when put in reverse, the car feels like it's gonna stall. I put a scanner and it read cylinder 2 misfire but the plugs and coils look fine
Low or high fuel pressure from a dirty fuel filter, defective fuel pump, clogged fuel tank strainer, bad fuel regulator or dirty/clogged fuel injectors can cause rough idling. Try replacing the fuel filter and add fuel injector cleaning treatment to your fuel tank to clean and hopefully unclog your injectors.

Why did not you disconnect the negative battery terminal? does it make difference if you disconnect it or not when comes to engine light?
It is not necessary to disconnect the positive terminal of the battery if it has a cover. If the positive terminal does not have a cover then it is necessary to disconnect in order not to short-circuit. The positive terminal as we know it is a conductor of current while the negative is ground.

What causes it if it is pierced with a simple hole?
It's basically a valve cover exhaust gas recirculator that takes gross air and pressure from valve cover and sucks it back into the intake system just below the throttle body, so it gets burned into emissions. You do not want a hole in 'any' hose or line in the vehicle.
Γειά σου Γιάννη, έχω το Toyota Avensis Τ25 1.6L 3ZZ-FE 2008. Δεν έχει καθαριστή ποτέ το IAC, επειδή έχει περτσινες δεν έχει βίδες. Έχει Ηλεκτρονικό Throttle Body. Πως μπορώ να ανοίξω το IAC Idle Air Control αφού έχει περτσινες και όχι βίδες? Ευχαριστώ.
Φίλε μου μπορείς να αφαιρέσεις αυτά τα πριτσίνια απλά με ένα καλό τρυπάνι και μετά με την βοήθεια ενός πριτσιναδόρου να τοποθετήσεις νέα πριτσίνια. Μπορείς επίσης να τοποθετήσεις βίδες με παξιμάδια και ροδέλες, αντί για πριτσίνια. Ευχαριστώ.

@@music240 Φίλε μου καλό θα ήταν να αλλάξεις αυτήν την φλάντζα, ιδίως εάν είναι σε κακή κατάσταση (δηλαδή εάν έχει ξεραθεί), για να αποφύγεις τυχόν διαρροές. Τώρα για τις βίδες και τα παξιμάδια πρέπει να είναι 8 ή 10 χιλιοστών μεγέθους. Και κάτι άλλο εξίσου σημαντικό: μην ξεχάσεις να βάλεις λεπτές και μικρές ροδέλες τόσο στα παξιμάδια όσο και στις βίδες. Ευχαριστώ!!!!

mine is a eletronic throttle, so there isn't a idle air control valve to clean. Don't know thats a blessing or curse. Lolx I kind of prefer mechanic part rather than all control by electronic.
The electronic throttle that your car has saves you from a lot of trouble and things become simpler because everything is done automatically by the car's computer. It makes the necessary adjustments according to the driver's driving preferences

@@stevenbugas7552 The idle speed initially drops because the A/C Compressor is driven by a belt connecting it to the crankshaft and requires some of the engine's power to drive it. Your vehicle, however, have a mechanism to detect this rpm change under the A/C Compressor load and will bring the rpm back to normal.
The Problem can be with the engine not getting enough ventilation.
Problem: In your car the ECU is programmed to raise the rpm when it detects a stall or the RPM dropping down so if there is problem with your air filter which is not allowing much air into the engine and causing a stall but not noticeable your ECU will fight it to keep it in working range.This causes the RPM to bounce.
Solution : Clean up your air filter and check for any clogs.
Or could be your mass airflow sensor: If you think it is your Mass Air Flow Sensor, get your MAS cleaned first (and correctly). Avoid using after market air filters which have oily residue in them which can get onto the sensor.
Your car software tries to maintain the idle rpm: The AC temperature governor tries to maintain temperature, but some clogs in coolant path or issues with compressor leads to variable load on engine. Make sure AC system serviced once.

Disconnect the idle air adjustment valve by locating and disengaging the electronic connector that holds it to the throttle body. Turn the idle screw to adjust the idle-turn the screw to the left to increase the RPM or to the right to lower it.

First I dosconnect electric connection.
then start the engine, I turned the screw clock wise, and observed the rpm, it start reducing from 1500 to1000, but upon further rotating clockwise again increasing the rpm, so I left the screw where the rpm was mininum 1000 rpm, then connect the electric connection and restart the engine, did the idle relearn procedure. now rpm is 800 on idle . is this Ok? or do I need sonething to bring rpm 650 to 700 at idle?
@@inamrehman8709 May I ask you something? When you adjusted the engine idle speed, did you let your engine warm up for a few minutes or did you adjusted it cold?
@@YiannisPagonis engine was warmed up already before starting the whole procedure. I do not know why while rotating clockwise at some point it again start increasing the rpm instead of decreasing them.

2009 has three 10mm bolts holding onto the Throttle Body.
And there is no way you could open the flapper (7:48) with your finger. Its all electronic.
Is yours a European model?
@@angelisone My car made in South Africa and is a 2008 model, 1.4 hp, gasoline, 97 horsepower. So it's a different generation than yours so there are significant differences.
@@YiannisPagonis Not a good ideal to post "2007-2013", when 2006 to 2009 are not even close being like yours.
For a fact 2009 Toyota Corolla LE (USA model), the throttle should not be moved by hand /or by any object. There are no cable and all driven by electronic and gears.

failure 2010 and above models has an electronic throttle body it needs to be programmed by a scanner
Too bad and very sorry. But I think you can clean the throttle body without disconnecting the connector.
This video has helped many, as evidenced by the comments. I cleaned the throttle body on my 2013 Corolla using this video.
