  • This video covers cleaning an electronic throttle body, specifically the Toyota Corolla throttle body on the 2002 - 2008 Corolla. To replace an electronic throttle body, or if you are considering how to replace throttle body (Toyota Corolla years 2005 - 2008) or how to clean electronic throttle body or how to clean a drive by wire throttle body, there are certain steps that should be taken to do this safely and prevent potential damage to the electronic motor or position sensor.
    This tune up item is a necessary step especially if you are having bad throttle body symptoms which include poor gas mileage, rough idling, weak acceleration etc. Throttle body related codes P2107, P2108, P2111, P2112, P2118 and P2119 may be easily repaired by cleaning the throttle body, except if parts are damaged or there's a short in the circuit.
    This how to clean an electronic throttle body video also specifically covers other Toyota with the 1ZZFE engine and not just the 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2008 Toyota Corolla.

    • @DIYAutoworksNG
      @DIYAutoworksNG  Před 2 lety +2

      You don't need a scanner for the idle relearn, but there is an idle relearn procedure. Which you should do if you moved the butterfly plate by hand or took it out of vehicle to clean as I did. Here it is:
      Warm up the car. Shut it off.
      Put the key in the ignition.
      Turn the key to the On position, but don't start the engine. Wait a few seconds, turn it off.
      Repeat the above step again. But instead of turning off, start the engine.
      Engage the parking brake.
      Set the gear in Drive.
      Wait 5-10 mins.
      Shut off the car.

      I recommend should changing your mechanic. Gone are the days of adjusting idle from the throttle body. The ECU controls everything with input from several sensors.

      It's because drive by wire uses a motor to control the butterfly plate as against the spring mechanism used in drive by cable. Pushing the butterfly plate by hand can distort the caliberation of the motor, could also have the risk of stripping gears if not done correctly and lastly, if the vehicle is powered, because the butterfly plate is motor controlled, it could catch anything in its part and bite down with intense force. E.g. chop off a finger if it gets caught.
