  • Good ol' uncle Charlie (Cary Grant) has a problem . . It seems he loves to marry rich old broads for the dough & goodies that come with it, but he has to kill 'em 'cause he can't stands 'em . . . Which sounds fairly normal. I wonder where the problem is. This program is the 2nd time I uploaded it, as the art on the first one crumbled and desinigrated into tiny bits during transformation. Of course, I'm doing all of this with a dinky little android so it's amazing what DOES work properly!

    Wow. These radio drama of great films are lovely to listen to. Incredible writing and directing in both mediums . Exquisite acting. Shadow is one of my favorite Hitchcocks; I watch it often. But this treatment is fascinating and very smart. Brilliant opening act- the sense of time ; the sound effects and the suave villain Uncle Charlie - Who could be better at that in voice only than Cary Grant⁉️

    Thanks for sharing this. I enjoyed the story. I also liked listening to the ads that were part of the download. Especially the one that advertised the RCA Victor TV. I think if the broadcaster knew the negative impact TV had on Radio, he would have been less interested in promoting it.

    Fun, but no one can replace Joseph Cotten as uncle Charlie, not even Cary Grant. Same goes for Theresa Wright, she's irreplaceable.

      I'm with you, but I'm a little biased as Cotten is one of my favorite actors!

      My guess is that Cotten was unavailable, as he did many other Radio Theater Episodes. He also was a favorite of Hitchcock.

      Suspense & ESCAPE! Interestingly Hitchcock wanted William Powell to play Uncle Charlie originally but Powell turned it down. I’m sure he was delighted with the results with Cotten playing it though.

      @@brunoantony3218 That is interesting. I would think Hitchcock might have leaned more towards James Stewart or Cary Grant. (I too, am a big fan of Hitchcock ) You've chosen an interesting screen name! I have "Strangers on a Train" uploaded on my Suspense and Escape channel! Frank Lovejoy plays Bruno. - Charlie

      @@brunoantony3218 Although, Wiliam Powell did play the role for Lux Radio Theater's version, along with Theresa Wright.

    Great audio version. Cary Grant still in his comedy phase doing incredible serious acting here; wonderful
    Female lead. What a voice she has. This girl sounds like she is caressing the Mike. Betsy Drake I salute your acting and a voice to die for. Subscribed when I saw his list of Hitchcock audio. Great stuff. Makes the Oscars look like the fakes , posers, and insipid morons they are. Try finding theater actors like this anywhere near Hollywood… not bloody likely. Imho.

    • @jeanettesdaughter
      @jeanettesdaughter Před rokem +1

      Glad you said imho because you are wrong imho! There are as fine screen actors as there are stage; in fact the best of the best are fully capable of both and often the same. The medium changes, on the stage or captured on film but not the talent. Talent knows what talent knows . Your snobbery is showing.

    Cary Grant and his soon-to-be 3rd wife, Betsy Drake. It was a chance for Cary to express some of his darkness. They are very good together. Betsy wrote Houseboat as a vehicle for them both, but Cary replaced Betsy with his latest fling: Sophia Loren.
