There’s more flavour in fish if you leave the skin on in my opinion, I can eat it either way
Don't think I have ever had it that way before. Don't think anyone here does it that way too. Gonna have to get someone to cook it for me.
Skin on that's part of the flavour
Stop winging about the skin Lee ,it put hairs on you chest 😂😂
Never had a fish and chip shop in Scotland serve fish with skin on, so i wouldn't even think about asking to take the skin off if elsewhere.
Same here, its not something that`s ever crossed my mind to ask and its haddock that`s always served here in Scotland.maybe its more commonplace in England.
Story on BBC news today about a 111 year old man from Southport: John Tinniswood, who is 111 years and 223 days old, puts his longevity down to a fish and chips on a Friday ……so there you go…..no range anxiety there!!
"Not into the skin on the fish" and "A very tasty fish" - Lee.
It's the skin that gives the fish more flavour.
Yes,we love the skin on fish, particularly Atlantic Salmon 👀👍❗️
Hard to judge overall because I cannot taste it, but on appearance alone, 8/10
Whole Sea bass with sea salt and lemon, 😃
It's not hard to ask , " can I have my haddock skinned plz " christ you go to enough chippies to remember to ask .
A lot will not do it.
@TheMacMaster well OK then ask before you go and if it's skin on avoid . Well that's what I would do if it bothered me that much . I know that some do it , the reason being I have been a fish restaurant manager a 250 seat fish and chip restaurant.
The skin is part n parcel of Haddock, sacrilege to remove it.
The skin is part and parcel of every fish 😂 but from a taste perspective, I definitely prefer skin off. Now nice crispy skin on non battered fish, yes no bother.
Its haddock i always have and not once have i seen skin on it.
I was in Skegness last weekend love it there
No skin on any battered fried fish at all. Skin on if you are frying non battered fish in the pan no problem but deep fried, it's all wrong.
Ask for it without the skin-most places will remove it for you-harsh to mark it down a point for the skin
I eat the skin when there’s skin on it. The fish and chips looked delicious 🥰❤️👍
That looked really lovely. Why not ask for your fish without skin if it is such an issue?
The skin is the best bit, 😃
omega 9 from the skin u should have asked for the skin to be taken off?
'You do not eat the skin on the fish' -- you great soft nowt --
Skin on my fish? I can take it or leave it. I've never worried about it honestly. 😜
Nothing wrong with skin on the fish 👍
At 0.57 Is that Joe Biden going past, looking for his ice-cream on his EV? Looks just like him.
At this point in the game - after reviewing so many fish and chip shops - how are you not just asking for a no skin piece of fish everywhere you visit? The chip shop can't mind read your hatred of skin, because for 50% of us, as ive said before lol, we love it - and its full of good vitamins etc. Man up Lee! 😉
Skin off definitely and deep fried in a golden batter, absolutely no substitute, it's the best way to eat fish and chips, the skin is dried, sharp and slimy, always skin off then batter until golden brown 🤎
For someone who always complains about dirty tables, you left a very dirty table .
Watch out Lee, thought the Tesla driver at the end was going to lunch you with his charger cable, obviously he wasn't a subscriber 😂😂😂😂😂
I love skin on fish 🐠 more flavour just, like the skin on a baked potato 😊
What always amazes me is - how much mess you make when you eat!
I watch him make a mess in most of his videos. No idea why he does that. Maybe he was a finicky spoilt child. Should have been force fed the skin!
bit of fish skin will not kill you. Eat it!
I haven't been to Skeggy since the mid 80s and I haven't missed it one bit. The fish and chips looked nice enough to me. I wouldn't want skin on my fish either though, I thought with you having haddock you'd have asked about the skin when ordering, and why did you leave the peas, you didn't say?
Don't see why you took a point off for the skin being on, it's up to the customer to ask for it to be removed. I always ask them to do it.
Alway have skin on haddock only way
Sink 🤗🤔😂
Skin is lovely 😊
Lee.
Only one place in Skeg for Fish & Chips Tonys Grand Parade opposite the Clock Tower 👌
Lovely fish and chips will score them 9.25 out of 10 onwards my friends 👍😀
can't wait until I come over from Oz in August , Fish and chips 3 times a week.
If you lived in Oz you'd eat the bloody Haddock with head and tail on as well as the skin, it's called desperation.
It’s not haddock without skin.
Haddock need skin on it if you don't like get cod
For a place that looked that busy, Great looking fish & chips, Wasnt until i started watching yourself, that i gave the skin a second thought,
Skin on fish & chips is part of the meal, I don’t know why you don’t like it?
"Man eats fish in Skegness. Peas on table. More skinny details on the late news at 11."
I lived in Scotland for numerous years and trust me, the vast majority of Scottish Fish & Chip shops sold deep-fried pizza and Scotch Pies and Haggis. My pet hate is when food is brought on wood, I tell them to take it back and bring me a plate. The same goes for coffee in old Jam Jars, that goes back too. Why do they serve fish with skin on, seems to me that they think it is upmarket? I hate it too.
Skin is fine by me, it keeps the fish moist. A former partner and I used to have a meal in a certain pub in the Durham countryside. I'd have meat pie and she'd have fish and chips. The fish had skin on which my partner didn't eat. She'd leave a fish shaped piece of battered skin, which I would eat with the remains of the gravy from my pie. Mmmm, luxury!
Funny watching a Tesla back in next to you as you give your review.
The reason the fish is so tasty Lee is because they left the skin on
I thought this looked nice to be fair Lee. I personally prefer the skin on the fish and it definitely adds to the flavour. Same as the fat on meats like bacon, steak and gammon etc. More flavoursome. Looked a decent size too but I do like a nice kick to my curry sauce.
I'm going to go 8.5/10 on this one. Cheers for the video mate as always👍
One potato cut into chips and fried ( aka cone of chips ) £2:50.. 2 potatoes £3:50, all chip shops will start to close as people realise this is robbery even before adding a £9 slice of fish
Ask about skin when you go in and, if it's on, walk away...simple Lee. Don't then do a video and complain about it!!
The MacMaster either Gob Smacked, or Shocked these days!! Sydney is under water LOL
11 .....extra point for the skin
We’re from Sheffield always loved fish and chips it was always skin on haddock but not cod. Haddock was always the cheaper fish and cod was the premium
That’s why you always got big haddock’s in Greek and Cypriot chips shops in the 90s and 2000s
9.8peas look too green if you get my drift
You need to do a wee road trip to Oban and try the chips up there, we like the George St one, but there's a Ric Stein recommend one as well, then there's a short drive to Gavavan Sands to eat them at the beach, George St is sit in as well
The dog on the can looks like spud McKenzie alf 😅😅😅
Thats a 10 easy, looked exactly like it should do and the bonus of having skin on it too. 👍👍
The colour of both the fish and chips were really good, really golden. That suggests that they use good quality potatoes and clean oil. Like you, I don't like skin on. I don't do curry ar mushy peas.
Haha even the birds know the taycan is poo 😂😂
The chip's look amazing and the fish 🐠 golden brown, if it tastes as good as it looks I'd give it a ten cheers mate from Australia 🦘
I think the fish and chips looked great. By preference I would like no skin, but I wouldn't make such a song and dance about it. I eat fresh smoked haddock for breakfast two or sometimes three times a week and it always has the skin on. I just cut the fish part away and leave the skin. I buy it from Aldi, Lidl or Morrisons.
Skin on or off i’m not fussed bought up in the 50’s / 60’s and you had to eat whatever was put in front of you or go hungry but if you don’t like skin on fish then ask the shop to take it off - simple as asking for your eggs so that there is white over the yolk!!
I too was bought up in the jolly old 50's and 60's, there was only one item ever on the menu, if you didn't like you had to wait for the next meal. Oh joy! My mum was the worse cook ever, never knew what a tasty meal was, until I went to catering college!!!! Whatever I brought home from college was "foreign muck".
Looks very tasty...not bothered about skin its covered in batter ....yummy
I'm with you Lee I don't like skin on either. I'd have asked for it to be taken off or done it myself. I think you should rename your channel Fish and Chips Master! 😀
My Yorkshire gran would say to you "Don't be such a fuss pot"
Thanks for sharing lee
LEE , The skin would have been removed if you asked , You can't down grade them for that mate, most people don't mind skin so you should always ask .
Heston Blumenthal's pub, The Hind's Head in Bray, has renowned Fish and Chips for 29 quid, pricey, but every vlogger that's tried it says it's the best. One of the more parsimonious of them answered the question, would you pay it again? He said not only would he pay it again, he'd fly there from anywhere in the world for the privilege. (They probably serve breakfast too.) You probably might want to try it before you finally make up your mind.
And Heston leaves the skin on. It really isn't a problem. I reckon if Lee was blindfolded and given battered fish with skin on he wouldn't even know, other than the fish has less chance of drying out. The skin has it's purposes. Now unscaled is a different thing all together. That IS a no no
What is it about fish and chips that makes people think its thr best food that exists 🤔?
Lee, here in Northern Ireland we are now growing Tesla batteries, fully charged. Problem being, Dover Border Control won't send us Tesla-pickers as we don't have 4+ hotels here. Batteries don't grow in trees here, they are found in bushes.
10/10.and the price is very good
If you don't like skin on your fish and don't ask, when it's often a possibility - then shame on you,. Clearly a matter of taste and if you don't ask, not sure if it should affect the score when maybe all you had to do was ask for "no skin". I'm not a skin fan but looked pretty good. All the best...
You should have gone to Seaview Fisheries. It's amazing and no skin!
For a change from fish and chips. Try an Indian at ocean Rd in South shields.tyne n wear, spoilt for choice. 🎉
How about a choice with skin on or skin off only a little preparation needed
Skin adds to the flavour yum yum
Another great vid, Lee. F&C looked lovely. 👌
The skin on usually means it's proper fish and not a fish fillet that's been cut down, that's why usually at the coast you get it with skin... But if you don't like it then you should ask so I think it's unfair to take a point off... Been to more or less every chippy in skeggy and chips pan alley hardly as any nowadays, go back 15 years more or less every shop was one. But Seaview at north side of skeggy is the best by far round there.... Can't believe you didn't comment on the miserable Tesla driver behind you lol, bet he had to pay for parking while charging😂
Macmaster you do winge turn the fish upside down whip the skin off turn it back over enjoy 10 out of ten.
Nice to see SS cutlery and China plates. Good presentation and the fish and the chips looked tasty. Now, you should have started with the curry, this way the fish and chips taste would be destroyed. Don't get the desire for curry as it really does not enhance the flavor of the food. Skin on fish actually enhances the fish flavor. Based on price and presentation; 9/10.
Cool, you in Skeggy Vegas lol. I only 9 miles away from Skegness. Epton's was ok when last had it years ago. But several good others now in Skegness. We like Sea View chippy, on Sea View road, really nice. Plus you can still get a traditional Cornish pasty & chips, as not many chippy's do pasty now. We had a chippy in my family for 40 years, know me stuff lol. You was in Skegness, so where is the lovely Paige? Bless, hope you took her a stick of Skeggy rock back lol.
love the skin on fine by me lee, went to skeggy in august and had fish and chips on the way up to butlins, place we went to was really busy, but the fish and chips were not even a 3 cheers
No skin for me. Not the best you've had not the worst 👍 The state of that Tesla at end 😂
Best way leave the skin and don't eat it as i feel skin spoils the experience but as long as you got to eat some of the batter with out the skin, in Australia no one eats the skin.
Chippy fish has the skin on never reallyworried about it.. just leave it onthe plate andas i eat less batter fewer calories lol...
You should salty's fish and chips mablethorpe
Much better on a plate and with cutlery.
Idea salt the than try it before vinager .crispy on the outer fluffy on the inside.
Skin on is fine for many reasons, proof of that specific fish .if skin was bitter it would be a old fillet .ok
Omga is good for you .
Skin on did not affect the taste ,
Experience inside dinning was nice .food portions cooked properly no mistake .
Did not mislead there coustomers in advertising. On a humble take away a 9,10 ...
My go too chippy in skeg another great vid keep um coming lee
MMmmmm Lee, you made my mouth water again, that looked tasty, in Australia we do ejoy a good squirt of lemon over our Fish n Chips 😉 👍 Au
Hi lee never been to skegness but the fish and chips looked lovelly thx for sharing 👍😋
£14.50 for that lot??? Nearer £17 (or more!) around here (middle of Kent) - and you won't get a fillet that size even if you order a large one. Properly presented though, yours. If that's properly fresh Haddock then it's one fish that needs the skin to keep it together in the fryer, even with batter around it. It ought to add to the flavour too - kind of like cooking meat bone in against boned and rolled.
The texture looked as you'd expect from fresh Haddock. Chips don't look like they've been cooked properly - blanched, first fry, rested, then final fry to crisp the outside but so few do that these days.
Skin is ok with me, looked very tasty, good video.
I do a few fish & chips reviews and agree that skinless is always best. Skin on, seems to be more of a southern thing and not up north and Scotland. Great review BTW. Cheers
I don’t like the skin either, I would strip it off, I don’t recall ever having fish from a chippy with skin on, that’s a big no no for me too, I was in Blackpool on Easter Sunday, I kept an eye out for you in case I bumped into you to say hello, but maybe next time big fella, the wife and I had a nice breakfast in Spoons, it was crazy busy, thanks for all the great videos I watch everyone, best wishes Wayne.
Hi Lee......next time you're in skeggy I recommend the blue fin for fish and chips. Beautiful.
That looked really nice and I eat the skin its ok adds to the flavour 👌
I hear’Flippers’ don’t serve the skin on if you don’t want it!!!😂
Tell them to change the light bulbs on the fruit machines in Skeg, they didn't even bother fixing them during the pandemic. Never used those chippys because the portions look tiny & the prices are hefty. We use the pirate themed one on the sea front.
Eating fish and chips while watching. No skin on our fish. 🙃
Looks nice Lee, been in a few time. 10 from me. Smashing video.
My grandad and gran always took me to a sit in chippy down there back in the late 80s. Brings back memories. 😉
Great video thank you
That looks absolutely delicious 😊
I don't like skin on fish either but if your going to the lake district there is a fish shop restaurant in Arnside they are amazing and also the bald foodie guy has reviewed them as well he thinks so to so go pay them a visit keep up the great videos lee
Wow that fish looks epic, do love ur chippy reviews :)
Hi Lee, wow. You eat a lot of fish and chips ! I score it 7.5 out of 10. Had fish and chips in Terrigal, NSW, last week. Twice ! The batter was as light as tempura. But I wish we had haddock in our batter in Australia. Skin on fish ? I would think it would add to the flavor. There's another You Tuber who hates mushrooms. I think it's a childhood thing. One of my brothers hates prawns, lobster, oysters, crab, and it all came about as a little kid when he saw prawns on the kitchen counter, heads and all. Thanks for the video and all the best !
