Ed and Stede are IMO the best argument for casting people who already know and like each other in lead roles opposite each other.
In terms of writing, I love that Stede, who is basically meeting his idol, sees very quickly how burnt-out he is and immediately prioritizes the person over the legend ("have you ever considered retirement?"). You get the sense no one has *seen* Ed like that in ages.

giggling kicking my feet🥹🥹🥹🥹 I'm so happy you instantly loved their chemistry🥹 it was the first thing that striked me the most from the very beginning of their relationship just how kind and curious they were to each other INSTANTLY??? i love all the enemies to lovers stories, but it was so refreshing to see two characters just being like 👀🫴💕 without any major misunderstandings (minus potential mur..r deal behind stede's back shsjshhsj) or just unkindness. also the lighthouse scene was a complete shock to me when i first saw it, because it's just so witty and cinematically stunning hello?? I've animated it two times and i can't count how many times I've drawn it. not to mention these two men being quite sui..dal before (stede in ep1 and ed showing signs in the very same episode) only to come up with a life-saving plan TOGETHER after knowing each other for what? 3 hours lmao?? i just felt so much love watching this episode, still one of my very favourites from this show🥹 thank you so much for your reaction, i can't wait for you to see more!!❤️❤️❤️
