I love the show, I'm a HUGE fan of it and I love the work that RAAC are putting into the petition and everything surrounding it, so I wanted to support them in any way possible and support the show hopefully getting some kind of justice. Love your reactions so much! The storm scene was so good, it's one of my favorite moments of the show, honestly. Ed had absolutely lost his mind and the way he was acting was almost scary, with the manic glee in his eyes and his laughs while he steers everyone in life-danger.
And YET he wore Stede's cravat for his final moments...
Love your reviews, you are a joy to watch! I come from the Good Omens fandom (there's a lot of crossover) and found OFMD from that. I absolutely love the show and was shocked with the news of the cancellation. Many of us Good Omens fans are also trying to put out the word, donate, and sign the petition for OFMD as well. They deserved better and deserve a 3rd and final season.

i'd hate to give anyone false hope, but i'm personally really optimistic. our voices are being heard, the executives are getting annoyed, things are shakey within max as a company, david jenkins and some cast members are (vaguely) supporting our efforts on social media... the show was already in pre-pre-production, its story is all set, it's got a VERY passionate fanbase and it DOES have attractive numbers (despite what bloys said). i truly believe there's a big chance another platform is going to pick up ofmd soon. but we still have to keep fighting! so it's really important that you've joined our battle. if anyone is reading this and they haven't signed the petition yet, please do so! the goal here isn't necessarily to get max to listen to us and uncancel the show, it's to show everyone just how passionate we are.
fans have been working tirelessly to rescue the show and a lot of money has been raised, not only for the ads but also for charities helping gaza, the lgbtq+ community etc. it's a beautiful group effort and it would have made stede and ed extremely proud!
two other, less important things i want to add:
- as far as i'm aware, erroll shand (ricky) is not related to rhys darby, but he *is* a fellow kiwi!

I’m glad you enjoyed S2, I’ll be looking forward to the rest of your reactions of this season! Also, you might’ve heard this by now but Max CEO Casey Bloys said in a recent interview that “the numbers weren’t there for a renewal,” which sounds like a total excuse to me given how well S2 performed. HBO Max even listed OFMD as one of its Biggest Hits so I truly don’t understand the decision. It seems like they want to focus on series whose IP they can drag on for ages, which wouldn’t have been possible for OFMD with only one more season. Here’s to hoping the renewal campaign works and some other streaming service picks it up!!

Yeah, I saw something like that. It's crazy that somehow it then got cancelled. Barmy! Yeah, probably... just seems silly as it would give the show and HBO a wonderful high note to end on and would bring in more love for the service and not cause people to dislike their decisions.

Ricky really comes across as a bargain-basement Stede knockoff (who's less capable of hearing and acting on good advice). Ed was trying to die via mutiny, and that question "Do we think he's better?" show how much the crew *wanted* him to be better. The opening of season 2 is so good in its treatment of grief (especially grief that's complicated by toxic masculinity and not being allowed to express sadness or seek support) that I recommend it to people I know who work in bereavement support. That's part of why keeping the show accessible to watch, and finishing the story with a season 3, is so important to me.

I love this show so much I could think of nothing I wanted more than a series 3, but I was also terrified it would somehow destroy the happy ending Ed and Stede got in series 2. In some ways then I had a few mixed feelings was when I heard the show was canceled but I was still thoroughly devastated. It went from a show I had never even heard of to one of my favorite shows ever in less than a week.
I completely agree with not wanting to ruin the ending we had or jeapordise their relationship or friends lives in any way.
The way they left it was definitely pretty perfect (apart from the emotional part just before!!), but having that extra season would be wonderful to expand things even more and potentially give them more space for moments and relationships to breathe.
I was sort of the same with being gutted, but also thankful it ended the way it did.
Yes!!! I'm exactly the same. I had it requested and didn't know it at all and now I love every single thing about it and it's now a huge favourite of mine too. Thank you for watching AMC and it's lovely to see you back again! Hopefully your new year has gone well so far.

As a non-binary person, I felt really good watching this series. It was incredible because for the first time I felt represented in a decent way, without stereotypes or jokes, Jim is by far my favorite character. I don't want the show to be canceled because I know that like me, it must have helped many other lgbtqiapn+ people to feel comfortable with themselves. And I love your reactions btw, you are doing an amazing job✨🩷✨

yeah they defo answer with prewritten mail templates with, I think, your mail subject as a variable. mine said "I understand you're requesting for Our Flag Means Death renewal to be available on Max and I'm here to help." XD
But people who called and asked said that the emails are all being read and filed and the big number of rquests for a renewal is being notices. And I heared even tho the mails are supporting the cause, calling them has more impact because they need to protocol it

So this is just my theory, but based on sprinklings I've read in various interviews and articles, I think the main issue with OFMD getting renewed is that it doesn't fit easily in a box in terms of TV production. They've talked about how they had to cut the budget in S2 to 'bring it in line' with what a half-hour comedy 'should' cost, and I've seen mentions as well from David Jenkins about the supposed strangeness of trying to do hour-long period-piece production values in a half-hour comedy. I think the explanation here is that someone at Max was just looking at it as something that's overly costly for what it is, without taking into account the fact that it's meant to be so much more than a half-hour comedy. But maybe they only have so many slots for big-budget period piece, they wanted it to fit into one of their half-hour comedy slots, it wouldn't because of cost, so there's just nothing to do with it from a business and cost perspective. I think that's total BS and really short-sighted, but from my time in corporate world I can absolutely see a certain type of executive dude thinking this way.
I was taking a small break from all things OFMD, so I just found out about the cancelation of the 3rd season and I'm devastated! I hope that the petition and the other fan efforts will work, but I don't think that an unfeeling megacorp like HBO (I know it's max, but I don't like the rebranding) would give in to demand. Also, speaking of good shows that needed one more season, Wander Over Yonder was very fun, well animated and surprisingly gay for the disney of that time (I described it vaguely because I'd love to see your reactions to WOY, if you're interested, there's criminally little content on it besides fanart and reviews), but it didn't get renewed for the 3rd season too, which makes OFMD the second favorite show of mine to get canceled before the finale. I don’t really know why I rambled about this so much, but I wanted to share my thoughts and feelings on this.

why was ofmd canceled? i obviously can't speak for the people who made the decision, but i suspect it's mostly for profit reasons. ofmd was wrapping up with season 3 and has limited potential for spin-offs and merchandise. as popular as it has been, there's not as many opportunities to wring money out of the IP as there is for, say, the last of us. it's a very focused story set in a very specific time and place with a small pool of characters to work with. with how laser-focused companies have been on massive, sprawling franchises, it's honestly kind of a miracle we even got a season 2. i'm as mad as everyone else about the cancellation, but it wasn't a surprise.
As somebody who raised over 10k twice to fund unofficial fan events and has seen others raise similar or greater amounts... I don't think there's a lack of potential profitability, but that the executives don't know how (or possibly care enough) to make the effort. There are so many unofficial products and events - I've run two conventions and I've been to four separate OFMD themed drag shows, for example. I have themed teas and charms and prints and crocheted dolls, and a book cover and... They don't even have to make it themselves, they can grant a license to Funko Pop, or something. I honestly don't think spinoffs are a particular problem, either. There are so many beloved side characters with their own backstories, and so many other historical pirates they can throw into them. If they wanted to make the effort.

Yep, probably. And from what I can tell, they seem to concentrate more on gaining mass immediate viewership as cheaply, quickly, and long as possible, taking the general public's biased preconceptions into account as far as marketing shows like OFMD fairly quietly, but probably not applying it to the overall count of engagements over a relatively short amount of time. Plus rumor has it that now a lot of shows are cancelled just before completion for a tax break.
I read that S3 was actually gearing up. They were doing hires in NZ. Then, axed.
to be completely honest, I'd like for them to not make another season and just end it here. I adore the show and that's the exact reason why I think it's only going to get worse (like, these 2 seasons are unironically perfect, so the only way is down). look at literally 90% of basically all the tv shows ever and see 'too much of a good thing'. maybe in 5 years or so it could be a nice idea to bring it back and see where they are with the passage of time, but now I feel like there's no way to keep up the sheer greatness of it all, the bar is too high, actors and filmmakers get tired, and ideas need lots of time to form
