- I am LOVING this show! I was so happy that Stede returned after he abandoned Ed and went back to his family. It made sense him returning to Ed, as he didn't fit in at all with the family.
This is the end of Season 1, but Season 2 will be coming soon to the channel, as I have now seen all of those too.

dont know if you noticed but Ed separated all the couples on the crew, trew Lucius overboard and left Pete on the island, separated Jim from Olu, kept Frenchie and leave Wee john that was his roommate and i believe closest friend, Ed´s like, ´´if I can´t be happy with my bf u guys can´t either`` lol
The LOOK on your face and reaction when Ed says "you" was magnificent - you reaction when they kiss? *chef's kiss* I didn't see this coming on 1st viewing, but on a second viewing (the whole 1st season I mean) - it was SO obvious they were falling for each other! Just goes to show how used we are to queerbating in shows
I noticed it on second viewing during the moon scene. When stede burned down the French kiss and tells Ed he wore fine things well they leaned in before awkwardly moving away. I was dooting for them by episode 7 first time but didn't spot the hints earlier on til second watch
YES, I was convinced they’d dangle the carrot but never actually bite it.
we're so used to queerbaiting that none of us saw it coming even though it's incredibly obvious throughout the first season (and when you watch the show again you can see it a lot). Your reaction to the kiss was pure magic thought.
About ep10, Stede really think he is a menace, he really thinks he is doing something good for Edward by leaving him and he really thonks he is doing good returning home... obviously he is just messing things up and urting Edward badly.
at the beginning Edward tries to process his pain by letting out the sadness, in a healthy way let's say, but then Izzy with her words and her threats make him regress to what he was before meeting Stede, or even worse they make him regress to this " books Blackbeard", completely evil, but it's just a mask and in fact we see him crying alone in Stede's room. A very sad scene
Stede was so horrified that Ed sacrificed himself to save him. He felt so bad.
You are very lucky to be able to go on to season two right away! That ending while not even knowing if it would be renewed was TORTURE.

I'm so glad you managed to stay away from spoilers and we got to see your reaction to Ed & Stede's kiss. A lot of the other reactors to this show knew it as the 'gay pirate show' going in, so it was really special to see someone who hadn't had that spoiled for them and to see what you picked up on. I've been looking forward to your reaction to episode 9! Very much looking forward to seeing your reaction to season 2 as well!
I remember I yelled just like Stede when I saw beardless Ed for the first time, the beard is such a big part of his character that even being used to seeing Taika with way less facial hair, he looked completely different in that scene 😅

I don't know if you caught it while watching/editing, but Chauncey shot himself in the same eye as Nigel got stabbed in 😅
Fun fact: the leopard playing Ned was apparently in the WAP music video
It took 9 weeks after that finale for them to confirm that there's going to be a s2, it felt like the longest wait at the time, it was such a pain 😅

Just imagine... Imagine not only waiting a year and a half to see where the story goes next, but imagine waiting over two months to find out *if it would even get renewed at all.* That was a rough wait 🥲
AT LEAST YOU CAN IMMEDIATELY GO ON TO WATCH S2!!! imagine having to wait over a year after THAT! 😭
And I was initially quite pissed with Stede as well for leaving Ed on the pier as well, but remember how low his confidence and self-esteem was from the get-go, so Chauncey telling him all these terrible things that he sort of thought about himself all along plus the newness and anxiety about the relationship with Ed and going to China, add on to that the guilt he always felt about leaving his family behind....I feel that explains it quite well.
They are both very complicated and emotionally underdeveloped people so...yeah. I'm looking forward to your S2 reaction (just keep in mind they had less than 50% of the original budget when you watch it which is, imo, a fkn CRIME but just so you know)

IMO you're absolutely right that Izzy did get some pleasure out of Ed hurting him-- even though he had to manipulate him into doing so. (Ugh.) The montage during Avalanche makes me cry every time. Before the whole "Edward better watch his step" conversation, Ed was really sad, but eating marmalade and writing songs is the kind of sadness a person can recover from, and he was accepting support from people other than Stede. But having to pretend not to have feelings because your first mate-- who's already sold you out to the Navy once-- can't cope with you being a human? That's a recipe for getting stuck in misery, and it didn't have to happen.
Back in s1e4 before coming up with the lighthouse plan, Ed says he thought he'd have a cooler death- being mauled to death by a tiger, or being massaged to death by mermaids, or bellyflopping into a volcano. I think Stede wanted to borrow Ned the Jungle Cat because of that conversation; he's set on wanting a good story about faking his death to eventually tell Ed.

Been thoroughly enjoying your reactions to Our Flag Means Death. The look on your face when Edward said what makes him happy was Stede took me back to when I first watched it. I was coming from the Good Omens fandom and just loved watching that scene with them. It warmed my heart. Seeing Taika as Blackbeard, especially his reaction to Stede leaving and how he deals with it, was heart breaking. Can’t wait for you to start S2!

What did his wife do to him? She tried to share her burgeoning art with him. She asked him to play with the children (but not pirates because they had nightmares). She asked him to try to make an effort with the one life they were given. I don't think she treated him badly. He clearly wasn't invested in the marriage, but I don't think that was her fault. (Also, I don't think Stede has room to complain about Doug after he left and found someone else himself. I don't think it matters whether she thought he was dead. She knew he left. And outing her as an adulteress in public in the 18th century was pretty bad too.)
