Both the S1 Audi and the S4 Lancia lapped the Estoril GP circuit in Portugal in a time fast enough for them to be on the 4th row of the GP Grid in about 1985-86, so gives you an idea of how brutal these machines really were, and if allowed to continue these days, would be just too quick with modern technology helping them. GREAT THOUGH... LOVE THEM TOO!!!!
rally is the best kind of motorsport in the whole world i love it more then all the other things and i miss such times in rally like in the 80's and early 90's great cars, great sound, great drivers today it's too boring
god, i love this!this was serious business, everybody went crazy, manufacturors, drivers, spectators....drivers and navigators smoking gauloises to keep their nerves under control, hahahaha! power, power, and more power! i really miss the golden era of rallying!
Gracias!!! I have remembered when I was a child and went with my father to see in action these monsters. They didn't sound like todays cars, nor? jejeje And if you combine these sound with the battery of lights in the front of the cars in night rallies, the result were that you see actual UFO's flying just directly to you! That's were emotions!
HELL YEAH!!! ;) in 5 weeks nearby my hometown a hillclimbin-contest ("Bergrennen") with old group b and classic-cars, organiced by some motor-sport-clubs, will startin.after a pause of more than 20 years! i always were sad when thinkin, that i was not that times not able to see that. and now that! i´m gettin wet of pre-happiness!!! :D Hail to the tires! ;) sry for bad english
@pedrompestana yes, that was the 037 #4 driven by Attilio Bettega... and if that footage was @tour de corse '85(as it's likely) he was just few hours away from his death. R.I.P. Attilio
same as previous Pure Sound series, this is another 5star excellent video! thank you so much for posting this. btw, what car was that from onboard camera?
Just like to mention that in 2004/5/6? (cannot remember) a metro 6r4 (probably the slowest of the Groub B Cars) came 8th in Ireland Overal against the WRC cars (at the hands of Colin McRae RIP) just goes to show that a well driven S1/T16/S4 could possibly still win a rally even 20 years later against modern technology.
600+ HP in a compact race car driving, the pilot and co-driver must work together and be in-sinc mentally, one mistake and it could be their last. through ,mud, gravel, snow and tarmac with road hazards such as lives stock, crests 80mph+jumps,and the crazy fans on the roads.Constant weather changes ,where a simple tire choice can decide the out come..Pure adrenaline lets you know your alive,Rally is the best motorport nothing else compares...
Its all down to their pace notes writen before the rallies, without them (as today) they just could not determine how fast to take corners etc. They even had ice crews that would report back to the teams the up-to-date road conditions just prior to the car setting off for the stage, except in the RAC in England where pace notes were not allowed. Had the pleasure years ago to drive Sport Quattro (ex audi sport uk car) and frightened myself nearly to death.
ditchs14: i think those cars didnt turn very well at slow speeds because of the huge grip amount they had to have. these cars had so much power, its incredible.
OMFG look at it. hear the revs it's driving and steering on the throttle, the only thing these drivers were doing was battling to convert power into forward motion. Just hear the revs when they accelarate out of corners wheelspin all the way. Absolute right foot control with a little help from the steering wheel ;)
Josti, you have put quite a little videos of the Lancia Delta S4, one of the protagonist of the group B, and lots of images of renault 5 turbo, that was not so competitive in those times... 2 stars
...and somebody had the nerve to tell me racing and RALLY wasnt hard because you were sitting in a car... THEN had the nerve to compare it to basketball
Yeah, i mean this is real motorSPORT, it takes a very skilled driver to drive like this, Drag racing you need to be fast at shifting gears and take a lot of G-force, so its very different,
Its about 300, but thats not the whole story, they have massive torque figures and put down 300bhp on the road with ease unlike the group B cars which really struggle putting power down, no traction control, electric diffs etc. It was just brute power in those days. Dont forget that the S1 had the potential for 1000 bhp
Thank you for letting me relive some very special memories!
FINALLY... A great Group B video without all the damn techno-beat or sappy love song music. Nothing but mechanical music resonating here! 5 stars!!!
I love these cars and their pilots! They're the best of the best... Thank you Josti88!
Thanks for sharing these three b-group pure sound videos.
You rock, man!
Fntastic! I love your pure sound series of vids.

what i would give to have these machines roaring just 1 meter from me at crazy speed... pure passion
super vidéo avec la caméra embarquée de Jean RAGNOTTI et son R5 turbo !!!!!!!! Grande époque du rallye !!!!!!
Gracias!!! I have remembered when I was a child and went with my father to see in action these monsters. They didn't sound like todays cars, nor? jejeje

Most of these groub B cars have more power than some super-cars of today!
good old rally times
i love this sounds from the engines
harm, which I could not see it, i am still to young ^^
good point
The Audi and the 240RS sound awesome..
Bring back the Brute Power!!
It was mind blowing back in those days. It will be fitting if they introduced a similar class back.
that clip at the end with the driver's view is funny. The co-driver is like scared or something.
Like Volumes one and two - kickasskickasskickass!
the sound of Audi Quattro is incredible
Thx Joost
@alexneszmer but the lanica delta s4 also competed in the group b races. the 037 had 325hp and 1170kg while the delta s4 had 500+ hp and 890kg.
the onboard cam is awsome real rally
Quattro is the best!!!

i agree fully!
The onboard is Ragnotti in the R5 Maxi Turbo 1985 Tour de Corse, which he won.
the incar camera views are the best, you really get to see from the drivers point of view.
@pedrompestana yes, that was the 037 #4 driven by Attilio Bettega... and if that footage was @tour de corse '85(as it's likely) he was just few hours away from his death.
R.I.P. Attilio
god...most people have no idea what is going on here..
those cars are legend's!
what is the adjust that the driver makes in the r5? maybe the turbo boost advance?
same as previous Pure Sound series, this is another 5star excellent video! thank you so much for posting this. btw, what car was that from onboard camera?

The lancia realy thats the best :)
How many cylinders did the group b cars have? The wrc ones now are only allowed to have 4 if I'm not mistaken
from group b came the cars that climb pikes peak today. an s2 sport quattro would not look out of place there even now
does anybody know that mitsubichi have made a group B car?
its really nice one

group B : endless power, endless spoilers, endless dust clouds. I think the only thing that had a ending in group B was group B itself
Quattro and his turbo...:)
yeah it was the Starion
you are a youtube saviour. That renault 5 is sex on wheels
The first rally copilot sounds like he's reading with a gun to his head.
@schloch78 this sound is THE MUSIC
what car is that at the start!is it a delta s4?
You dont have the Pure sound 1, 2 or 3 available for download somwhere? with higher quality? Would be awsome!
Renault 5 Maxi Turbo from Jean Ragnotti at the '85 Tour de Corse.
If you want a face of your teenage years then simply stand behind a Delta S4 and you'll have those looks of yesteryears in about 2.5 seconds, 😁
how was the Lancia 037 able to compete with the other cars that are pushing 500+horse power?
i mean sylvia lol, and the 1st car shown from cockpit is a renault 5 maxi
what where they thinking at 1:57 and 2:10 oopps.
love that misfiring system on that audi
