- The Sculpzilla is a super heavy sculpin streamer pattern with a sneaky little trailer hook. Plain and simple...this fly CATCHES fish! Life like action, along with the large bullet head, really matches this fly up with the natural sculpins found in many western rivers. Tan, Black, Olive and White are the most popular colors. Don't forget to bring a bigger streamer rod...and chuck 'n' duck. These flies have some mass behind them!

Thx for the instruction-tough to find any for the 'zilla. My .02 for seating the cone is to use lead wire that fits the inside diameter and a drop o' zap. At least that's how I like to seat bead heads and brass cones. Irregardless, I love this pattern-great action and it gets down!!
would it have been possible to tie the front of the fly on trout size front hook and make the body a little longer, leaving 3/4" behind the front hook for the articulation of the rear hook? I am not an expert tyer and I am just curious. I am not trying to be difficult or contradict you. I really am new to tying and have just started tying tandum hooks but in small sizes. I am wondering if I should cut off my smaller hook in the front. All the best, Sean
Surprised you don't teach them how to take down a barb?
Why did you cut the hook? I believe 2 hooks are well. Thanks
A 1/0 is far too large for trout like ITR explained plus in my opinion, an extra hook is one more thing to get snagged on bottom. Besides as you are most likely aware, trout are notorious short strikers.
You clip the front hook there is nothing to get snagged on , and I tie big articulated streamers for big brown trout on 1/0 and 2/0 hooks and laugh at the " is too big for trout " comment . Unless you only have 5" trout where your from .
