International Paramedics Day 2024

International Paramedics Day is a day that allows the opportunity for people to build a better understanding as to what the different roles that are carried out by paramedics around the world.
It’s also important to be aware that the role of a paramedic is ever growing in multiple fields where it will continue to evolve. In 1971 when the first paramedic syllabus was introduced to the United Kingdom the role was in its infancy as the skills acquired to deliver in hospital skills out in the prehospital setting helped save lives across the nation.
Through the years the role has adapted to the health systems needs where paramedics out on the frontline have acquired additional skills which has allowed them to be better equipped to deal with the various patient groups. Where as now paramedics are able to work in other specialised areas and become more than what the role was originally intended to become when it first began.
Its also important not forget those who work alongside the paramedics, whether its emergency medical technicians, emergency care assistants, first responders, paramedic students, 999/111 call takers, make ready crews, cleaners, nurses, doctors, professors, lecturers and the list goes on, as in any multidisciplinary team, each member plays a pivotal role when it comes to delivering optimum patient care and following evidence based practice.
