  • Makerere University students could miss out on national exams if they fail to attend at least 75% of their set lectures. This comes after the university commissioned a digital attendance and tracking system to monitor student attendance during lectures. Additionally, a biometric staff access system has been introduced to address staff absenteeism.

Attendance at University is a waste of time of time. These are mature adults who should be given the opportunity to plan as they wish without these kind of restrictions. only this should work for staff only but not students.

As a student yes, it’s irrelevant but for the lecturers who miss classes and still set content not covered or cover class material for a month in 3 weeks should be held accountable

Wow..this is such an amazing innovation!
The university should make sure a phone is a requirement under the Functional fees as part of the Technology fees because every student must own a smart gadget in this Era if Africa is to cope with the Technological revolution.....university can procure good performance smart study phones customized from Samsung at a low cost and should immediately start encouraging parents about this development

Some parents are difficult....they can only provide for a phone or tablet after the university declaring it as an official university requirement

so basically you are registering attendance of the smartphone not the student. this system has several loopholes. Phone batteries die, phones get stolen, students borrow and share phones. If your security system is relying on smartphones, then you are at the mercy of smartphones. Use an internal biometrics system such as fingerprints that are first captured at registration.

During bachelor's I attended less than 40%. I spent most of the time reading and in the lab. 😒In my masters, I only attended less than 7% of the lectures. I prefer reading and experimenting. Tracking attendance is a bogus move. People should be allowed to learn outside class

They should instead allocate 10% or acertain minimal figure to class attendance...auniversity is not a secondary school,,,minimise exam leakages, record class lectures for those too busy to attend and let adults be....
