Listen no one is saying to abandon anyone here. Both parties suffer major emotional trauma. When your spouse don't even remember your name or anything at all about you their is cruelty and emotional trauma that too. My mom’s friends and boyfriend dropped her when she got dementia. They said they wanted to remember her as she used to be. I stood by her no matter what.
That's why I don't support that ministry. I do believe in divorce in cases of abuse and unfaithfulness. I believe it is biblical. And God's mercy to the one being oppressed. But it is unbiblical in cases of mere health. And to leave the vulnerable unhealthy individual for selfish reasons is deplorable. And dishonorable. That person has broken their vows. A person is only as good as their word. So sad to see a ministry support this!

I felt honored and grateful to be able to stay by my husband's side during his long, difficult road too death. Also, I felt honored and grateful to care for my mother w Alzheimers. And to be there the last 2 weeks in the hospice center, as her journey home ended. I cannot imagine a greater act of love, and I am so grateful to have been there for them. I cannot even begin to fathom the mindset of PR, who shows by his fruits to be a wolf in sheep's clothing, but I will defer to God for his judgment.

I used to listen to TV evangelist's all the time back in the 70's and 80's preaching about the sin of divorce. How God hates divorce and so on. Then I remember watching and listening to Jaunita Bynum preaching about the sin of divorce. I watched her wedding on TV. She was all dressed up and decked out in white. They were in love. Her and her husband both talked about the sin of divorce while they were married, and how much God hates divorce. Now they are divorced They both have turned me off. I believe they showed him singing to her as she was dying. I wish he'd sung a Gospel song, but he was DEFINITELY pleasing GOD with his love life! HOLY MATRIMONY! when the doctor said "the feelings are the last to go" I almost bawled.... My grandmother suffered with Alzheimer's for 10 whole years and we were grateful every day we had with her. The relationship changed over that time. At one point when she was still at home, she thought I was a friend of her mothers come to visit and she chatted with me like a sweet young girl and told me about her life and school and friends. I feel like I got to know about her past in a way she could never relate before. I cant imagine the cruelty of abandoning her because she was no longer thinking of herself as my grandmother. She was still a human being. She was still a person and frankly I still loved her.
I am so very,very sorry for your loss. My dad and my grandma both died from cancer, and I almost bawled when the doctor said that,too. It's so true. Even when my grandmother would slip into unconsciousness for weeks,and her hands grew restless, I would take her hand,and she would calm down. My dad did the same thing. My favorite memories of my grandma were when she would walk with me by the creek on her property,aand let me tell her about my day at school,and she would tell me about all the plants growing around us(that woman could make concrete sprout green,i swear!)
The thing is those with Alzheimers might have some good days. I've seen it over and over again. So I would not divorce my wife because I would not want to miss out on those good days. Pat is very wrong on this subject.

When I said my vows on my wedding day. I totally will follow them. My husband was hit from behind on the interstate by a 18 wheeler. He suffered brain damage. That was way back in 1999. Since then he has had a triple by pass surgery on his heart. Now he is fighting cancer. I have never the about divorce, seeing someone else or leaving. My place is beside the man I love and made a vow to. Period!!
My father left my mother after she was diagnosed with Alzheimer's AND IT HURT EVERYONE!!!! I moved my mother in and I had to put my life on hold for years until she became incontinent and had to put her in a nursing home. Where was my dad? Enjoying his new life with his "girlfriend", until she kicked him out and left him high and dry and homeless. Now he has Leukemia and looking to us his adult children to take care of him. It has been a difficult, journey filled with anguish, resentments, and forgiveness that is still a daily battle. Robertson who fought so hard for the sanctity of marriage should be ashamed of himself. So much for their moral high ground. So much for in sickness and in health!!! I am going through this with my husband. We have been married for half a century. We promised each other to love and care for each other and it is going to happen. This is not an easy disease to get through. But we love each other and I will be there for him and care for him with all the love I have. Never, ever would I abandon him.
I have a husband that has been ill for 2 years now. The thought of leaving him is cruel. How a supposed man of God can say this is beyond me! Im honored to take care of him and I shall do so untill my dieing breath.
I can't imagine leaving my spouse for ANY disability, physical or otherwise. It's shameful that this advice would be given to the Christian community. I worked in dementia units for years; these people have their emotional memory remain intact; they can still feet love, smile, enjoy a movie and the holding the hand of a loved one as well as receiving gentle hugs.
My husband sister in law asked me how I can put up with my husband's depression and anxiety. She told me she couldn't have put up with it and that I should leave him. I told her she was crazy. It was cruel
Suppose it depends on the circumstances. Knew a gal who got totally burned out taking care of her husbands injuries, changing bandages and all. She divorced him primarily because he was a whiny mean a-hole to her. The adult daughter took over scarring for him but he begged the ex wife to come back because the daughter wasn’t doing it as well as she had, her response was “But she is doing it isn’t she?!?”. She never went back to him, he was too entitled and abusive.

Taking the easy way out won't set well with Our Father God when we appear before Him on Judgement Day. Plus the marriage vows are just that, a VOW taken before God in front of witnesses. I been a dementia care/ hospice elder giver off and on for 25 years.In home care nursing homes hospital and assisted living facilities. I took care of my own husband for two years at home until he fell and broke his hip died from pneumonia weeks later.It is the hardest most rewardeding thing I did professionally and as a spouse.My husband didn't know me from a can of paint. He even asked me how can he get a divorce to marry me.He told me I was nicer than the other wife.So my husband was literally trying to cheat on me with me.I tell families try to keep them home as long as you physically mental and fincicially can afford .Let a care facility be your last choice.
I read a heartfelt poem about a man who visited his wife daily although she would soon forget the visit. He had a true dedicated Love. Pat Robertson is very mistaken. Marriage is til death do they part. Alheimer disease is Not death as it is the memory rewinding the past and living in past tense. I am a nurse and know they still have feelings and surprisingly their moral values stay intact.
I think pat Robertson has alzheimer's. Abandoning your spouse when they need you most is just plain WRONG!!!! When people need you the most, that is when you really show your faith in God and what is right. What a bad example he is.

They're in it for rewards, whether earthly, or in the afterlife, but without having the conviction of obedience to serve God and others.. They get a feeling of peace, contentment, pride. But it's only a feeling, a deceiving spirit. No true christian could be at peace knowing they abandoned someone in need, especially their spouse. A person has to be born again with a Godly spirit of love, kindness, for others. With a willingness to serve God and others. Love is giving of ones self to others. With the satisfaction of doing right out of a deep faith, having compassion. That would be a sign or fruit of being a Christian.
@@spartaeus My stepfather spent every day with my mother in her 16 years of Alzheimer's taking care of and feeding her lunch at the care home till she passed on. That was love. My stepfather is not a believer.

Took care of people with this disease for more than 20 years, their memories fade away but thier feelings are still there, they feel love, happiness, sadness, they loved music, dancing, and most of them never forget their husband and kids, constantly asking about their loves ones and wondering why they are not home,
My sweet Mom was herself 70% of the time. She still recognized all of us. The biggest problem my Mother had was remembering recent things. She was ABSOLUTELY still here, contrary to what Robinson said. And her long term memory was better than mines at times. And even her short term memories would be better sometimes! RIP Mom!

My mother has a mix of both dementia and Alzheimer's. She has mood swings. When my dad was with her, she started having delusions and started to accuse my dad of infidelity, and it got to a point where she scratched him and tried to hit him with a bottle of wine. My dad had to stay in with me, my sister and brother in law. He was too afraid that my mom would snap again and attack him. He still loved her, he never divorced her, and he was NEVER unfaithful in their marriage. We had to get my mother a home attendant, and I was hoping my Dad would go home to her. But he was too afraid that she might snap again whenever she misplaced something and accused it on "the other woman". Unfortunately, my father passed away of cancer. He was a loyal husband to the end. My mother doesn't know given her mental state. And it's best that she doesn't. I don't speak ill of the dead, but Pat Robertson was a fool and a coward thinking he had the moral high ground. My father who was a person of faith could even see that Pat Robertson was a farce. Just a wealthy businessman in the guise of a person of faith that doesn't spread his wealth to the poor.
We can never know what is happening in the mind of a person with dementia. My father had vascular dementia. My stepmom visited him almost every evening for two hours. One night, 18 months since my dad had last spoken a word, he said “I miss this”. So, no Pat, it’s not fair to say the person is gone as long as they are still breathing.
During my Mom's last illness, she was on a respirator, and would speak only if she was in the mood. Doctors kept saying that she was brain dead when she wasn't. They called me "the hopeful daughter." I kept telling staff that Mom would have very brief, minimal conversations with me at times, and they wouldn't believe me. Well, one night a nurse was with my Mom, and Mom especially liked her. So Mom started taking to her!!! The nurse nearly fainted from shock!!! ☺️ So always believe that your family member may be aware, even when it may not seem like it. Mom's last words to me, a few minutes before she died were, "I love you.". 😥❤️
After working with Alzheimer's patients for 20-something years I realized that they respond better to their spouses or their children.... It's a shame that Pat had that remark that they should divorce their spouses... I realized that true love conquer any disease as long as that person is there to support you....
I've worked with Alzheimer patients and in my family as well. They feel safest with you because it is scary and they may not remember your name or something but they do know you are familiar. They sense it. It is and awful disease and it can be very tough to take care and manage. Get some help from loved ones or friends if need be. But never leave them. People with Alzheimers still know when a loved one is with them and that is so very precious!
I agree with you but only true love. This days husband would cheat just to have more fun he doesn't care about the wife feelings she can have 10 jobs and be overwhelming with all the things what need to be done.

My Dad adored my mom and took excellent care of her when she had Alzheimer's before she passed away. It was heartbreaking but also such a beautiful example of what true love really looks like! I'm saddened and disappointed in Pat Robinsons comment😔
I'm starting to think he is losing his mind. This isn't the first time he has said things that doesn't sound right. Of course he is wrong. When you vow to love and marry someone till death do you part, you agree to stay till life leaves.
This really bothers me down to my core….. my beloved mother was diagnosed with dementia/Alzheimer’s back in probably 2009 or 2010 and my father and the rest of us never even once considered putting her into some sort of care facility type of place at all ever whatsoever.. my parents were married for 60 years and my dad‘s greatest fear was that he would die before mommy died because he literally was her 24/7 caregiver.. he took care of her in every single way from preparing her food and constantly going outta his way by cleaning her up in the bathroom and showering her daily shower/bath and basically just meeting every single one of her needs were met especially his companionship because he never left her side and I mean that literally he locked himself up in this house and took care of Mommy 24 hours a day and she was the love of his life and he would never have put her into some type of care facility whatsoever (Back in 2015 my mom fell and broke her right hip and a few months later she fell again and broke her pelvis that time which had to be surgically repaired and due to her age at the time of her she was about maybe 85 give or take she had to go to a physical rehabilitation center for about two weeks so she could get the hang of walking again without any assistance like a walker and the last year of her life when she really started getting very bad making her home hospice and the hospice people used to come by like twice a week and they would bring mommy all of her different medicines and all of that stuff and not only were they there to check on my mom but they were also there to provide support love and caring to my father because watching his wife my mother with her away down to 84 pounds was breaking his heart in every way imaginable… my mom thankfully died here at home it only took four days from the beginning her “deathwatch” if you will only lasted four days from beginning until she drew her last breath and she had my dad my sister myself my husband and my kitty cat there with her throughout the entire process and we kept her calm and OK as best we could the end of life doctors prescribed medication that helped her when her bodily functions and systems began to just shut down and not work anymore and when she drew her last breath she had everyone that she loved the four of us standing right Next to her bed and we held her hands we crushed her we talked to her we told her how much we loved her and how much we were going to miss her and we also told her about heaven and the wonderful place that she was going to be going to one she left us and she had been afraid of the unknown she said to me shortly before she died” what’s gonna happen if I don’t wake up tomorrow?” And I let her know that it would not be painful she wouldn’t even know what happened she would just close her eyes to go to sleep and then she wouldn’t wake up anymore.. That seemed to calm her a great deal; and that I personally believed helped calm her fears about not knowing what’s gonna happen when she passes away and doesn’t open her eyes ever again and I kept reassuring her that there would be no more pain that she would get to see her mom and her dad and her grandparents and her loved ones who were all waiting for her up in heaven for her arrival; and that brought comfort to her in her final hours.. I think that it is despicable that anyone would even think about the idea of possibly divorcing their lifelong meet the mother of their children simply because she has a incurable disease and that will eventually take her life.. Is the gentleman in blood it’s a gentleman above feels like he wants to date another woman or have sex with someone else whatever the case may be that doesn’t mean that he has to abandoned and divorce the woman that has taken care of him his children his home his life everything you could think of for many many many decades like my parents who were married for 60 years.. my father never in 1 million zillion years would ever have considered doing something like that to my mom.. His greatest fear in life is that he possibly could die before Mommy did and he felt and knew that no one could take care of Mommy in the exact same manner that he did and that’s frightened him a great deal.. He did not trust the people at the center where Mommy had to go to after she had broken her hip for a couple weeks maybe two years before she passed and he saw how those people attendance nurses whoever they were they did not take good care of my mother and he quickly pulled her out of there and like I said he kept her at home with him and she also died at home, which was a place that was familiar to her and she recognized you know where everything went and like silverware I mean anything she knew her every single item in this home belongs whether it be on display or in her drawers or whatever but it’s been a great deal to her and I feel so grateful and privileged that I was able to be literally holding my mom‘s hands when she drew her last breath.. In my opinion the majority of people out in the world today adults between anywhere between 20 years old 40 years old they all know what these types of care facilities are like in this success records are very low and the majority of people die there and they die from neglect not from the initial illness that put them in there.. in my opinion that is murder 100%.. every single person has parents and everybody’s parents have taken care of them for a minimum of the first 20 years of their lifetime Until they get out on their own and even then the youngsters between 18 and 22 years old granted yes they may go to college however they are 100% completely dependent upon their parents to pay for their education to pay for their housing their food their books their cars everything else you can think of regarding expenses incurred while they’re attempting to get a college education She said of course for their future and whatever type of career they go into so they can be self-sufficient and not have to keep sponging off their parents Period!!!
I hope everyone is careful with what medications are given to the elderly. My Mom was given Ativan and it mimicked her having dementia. Once weaned off, she came back to life and had 2 more years with us until a stroke took her. Benzodiazepines (Xanax and Ativan) are often prescribed to the elderly and they should not be, imo.

My wife was in hospice. I was her caregiver. I would never have left her when she was sick and dying. A true man does not leave his wife when shes ill.
My mother stuck by my step- dads ( I call him my dad/pop)side until he passed in 2014 from Alzheimer's. My biological father passed when I was 2 months old. I am glad my dad and mom stayed married.

Not all the feelings are not gone. My mother in law had Alzheimer’s and I took care of her. And she remembered and had feelings for everyone. I won’t say it wasn’t hard to take care of her it was.

My grandfather has Alzheimer's and has to be in a nursing home, and my grandmother goes to visit him everyday and on occasion I go with her. And I can tell you this he may not know her name, or exactly who he is but every time he sees her he gives her a kiss and reaches for her hand. He doesn't do this with anyone else just her. So no they aren't "gone" or the "walking dead" they are still human beings with emotions. And if you truly love someone you will be with them and help the through anything not just leave because something is to hard for you to deal, because however hard it is on you imagine how hard it is on the person with Alzheimer's.

Each Alzheimers case is different. My mother started her dementia in her late 60,s and was still working until they made her retire because of forgetfulness . When I would run into her coming from the store , she didn't know who I was . She was still living on her own until the dementia turned into Alzheimers. She still could go out by herself and find her way home for about 4 years . Then people would find her wandering and bring her to my sister. Long story short , rarely did she remember who all of us were . The last year or so , she was bedridden and passed away the day before her 85th birthday. Alzheimers is terrible and very sad for a person to have .
I cared for my husband until he died of Alzheimer's. By myself. There is absolutely no way I would have abandoned him. Yes, it is hard but I do not think there is a short-cut and being selfish as Robertson suggests is a cowardly response. My husband died in 2016 and I am blessed with an absolutely clear conscience now. I do not see how any minister, let alone, a Baptist minister can suggest divorcing a sick spouse. How selfish have we become anyway? I think even non-Christians have more compassion than Robertson. He better hope he is not stricken with this dread disease.
This is so sad. I was a caregiver for a loved one with Dementia and it was if she left her body and an evil spirit entered just to cause havoc! Caregivers need all the help they can get - emotionally, physically, financially, and mentally. When someone states their vows, "in sickness and in health," they have to really understand that Dementia may be the sickness included in their vows. No judgment here - Dementia (Alzheimer's included) is cruel to all involved. I hope they find a cure soon!

Well I can say one thing, I work with Alzheimer's patients every single day, and unfortunately, I feel they do forget their loved one, I know they definitely forget the name and I feel like sometimes they sense that they're there but they don't understand 😪 This is a heartbreaking disease 💔 And this also depends on what level they are at , are they in the beginning ,the middle or the end that really makes a big difference !!!

When your spouse don't even remember your name or anything at all about you their is cruelty and emotional trauma that too. The other spouse may need the emotional and help of another to care for the sick one. So we all need to stop pointing fingers and consider al that is involved with these situations here.

I felt honored and grateful to be able to stay by my husband's side during his long, difficult road too death. Also, I felt honored and grateful to care for my mother w Alzheimers. And to be there the last 2 weeks in the hospice center, as her journey home ended. I cannot imagine a greater act of love, and I am so grateful to have been there for them. I cannot even begin to fathom the mindset of PR, who shows by his fruits to be a wolf in sheep's clothing, but I will defer to God for his judgment.

when the doctor said "the feelings are the last to go" I almost bawled.... My grandmother suffered with Alzheimer's for 10 whole years and we were grateful every day we had with her. The relationship changed over that time. At one point when she was still at home, she thought I was a friend of her mothers come to visit and she chatted with me like a sweet young girl and told me about her life and school and friends. I feel like I got to know about her past in a way she could never relate before. I cant imagine the cruelty of abandoning her because she was no longer thinking of herself as my grandmother. She was still a human being. She was still a person and frankly I still loved her.
I am so very,very sorry for your loss. My dad and my grandma both died from cancer, and I almost bawled when the doctor said that,too. It's so true. Even when my grandmother would slip into unconsciousness for weeks,and her hands grew restless, I would take her hand,and she would calm down. My dad did the same thing. My favorite memories of my grandma were when she would walk with me by the creek on her property,aand let me tell her about my day at school,and she would tell me about all the plants growing around us(that woman could make concrete sprout green,i swear!)
The thing is those with Alzheimers might have some good days. I've seen it over and over again. So I would not divorce my wife because I would not want to miss out on those good days. Pat is very wrong on this subject.

When I said my vows on my wedding day. I totally will follow them. My husband was hit from behind on the interstate by a 18 wheeler. He suffered brain damage. That was way back in 1999. Since then he has had a triple by pass surgery on his heart. Now he is fighting cancer. I have never the about divorce, seeing someone else or leaving. My place is beside the man I love and made a vow to. Period!!

My father left my mother after she was diagnosed with Alzheimer's AND IT HURT EVERYONE!!!! I moved my mother in and I had to put my life on hold for years until she became incontinent and had to put her in a nursing home. Where was my dad? Enjoying his new life with his "girlfriend", until she kicked him out and left him high and dry and homeless. Now he has Leukemia and looking to us his adult children to take care of him. It has been a difficult, journey filled with anguish, resentments, and forgiveness that is still a daily battle. Robertson who fought so hard for the sanctity of marriage should be ashamed of himself. So much for their moral high ground. So much for in sickness and in health!!! I am going through this with my husband. We have been married for half a century. We promised each other to love and care for each other and it is going to happen. This is not an easy disease to get through. But we love each other and I will be there for him and care for him with all the love I have.

I can't imagine leaving my spouse for ANY disability, physical or otherwise. It's shameful that this advice would be given to the Christian community. I worked in dementia units for years; these people have their emotional memory remain intact; they can still feet love, smile, enjoy a movie and the holding the hand of a loved one as well as receiving gentle hugs.
My husband sister in law asked me how I can put up with my husband's depression and anxiety. She told me she couldn't have put up with it and that I should leave him. I told her she was crazy. It was cruel
Suppose it depends on the circumstances. Knew a gal who got totally burned out taking care of her husbands injuries, changing bandages and all. She divorced him primarily because he was a whiny mean a-hole to her. The adult daughter took over scarring for him but he begged the ex wife to come back because the daughter wasn’t doing it as well as she had, her response was “But she is doing it isn’t she?!?”. She never went back to him, he was too entitled and abusive.

I been a dementia care/ hospice elder giver off and on for 25 years.In home care nursing homes hospital and assisted living facilities. I took care of my own husband for two years at home until he fell and broke his hip died from pneumonia weeks later.It is the hardest most rewardeding thing I did professionally and as a spouse.My husband didn't know me from a can of paint. He even asked me how can he get a divorce to marry me.He told me I was nicer than the other wife.So my husband was literally trying to cheat on me with me.I tell families try to keep them home as long as you physically mental and fincicially can afford .Let a care facility be your last choice.
I read a heartfelt poem about a man who visited his wife daily although she would soon forget the visit. He had a true dedicated Love. Pat Robertson is very mistaken. My sweet Mom was herself 70% of the time. She still recognized all of us. The biggest problem my Mother had was remembering recent things. She was ABSOLUTELY still here, contrary to what Robinson said. And her long term memory was better than mines at times. And even her short term memories would be better sometimes! RIP Mom!

My mother has a mix of both dementia and Alzheimer's. She has mood swings. When my dad was with her, she started having delusions and started to accuse my dad of infidelity, and it got to a point where she scratched him and tried to hit him with a bottle of wine. My dad had to stay in with me, my sister and brother in law. He was too afraid that my mom would snap again and attack him.
He still loved her, he never divorced her, and he was NEVER unfaithful in their marriage.
We had to get my mother a home attendant, and I was hoping my Dad would go home to her. But he was too afraid that she might snap again whenever she misplaced something and accused it on "the other woman". Unfortunately, my father passed away of cancer. He was a loyal husband to the end.
My mother doesn't know given her mental state. And it's best that she doesn't.

We can never know what is happening in the mind of a person with dementia. My father had vascular dementia. My stepmom visited him almost every evening for two hours. One night, 18 months since my dad had last spoken a word, he said “I miss this”. So, no Pat, it’s not fair to say the person is gone as long as they are still breathing.
During my Mom's last illness, she was on a respirator, and would speak only if she was in the mood. Doctors kept saying that she was brain dead when she wasn't. They called me "the hopeful daughter." I kept telling staff that Mom would have very brief, minimal conversations with me at times, and they wouldn't believe me. Well, one night a nurse was with my Mom, and Mom especially liked her. So Mom started taking to her!!! The nurse nearly fainted from shock!!! ☺️ So always believe that your family member may be aware, even when it may not seem like it. Mom's last words to me, a few minutes before she died were, "I love you.". 😥❤️

It's a shame that Pat had that remark that they should divorce their spouses... I realized that true love conquer any disease as long as that person is there to support you....
I've worked with Alzheimer patients and in my family as well. They feel safest with you because it is scary and they may not remember your name or something but they do know you are familiar. They sense it. It is and awful disease and it can be very tough to take care and manage. Get some help from loved ones or friends if need be. But never leave them. People with Alzheimers still know when a loved one is with them and that is so very precious!

This really bothers me down to my core….. my beloved mother was diagnosed with dementia/Alzheimer’s back in probably 2009 or 2010 and my father and the rest of us never even once considered putting her into some sort of care facility type of place at all ever whatsoever.. my parents were married for 60 years and my dad‘s greatest fear was that he would die before mommy died because he literally was her 24/7 caregiver.. he took care of her in every single way from preparing her food and constantly going outta his way by cleaning her up in the bathroom and showering her daily shower/bath and basically just meeting every single one of her needs were met especially his companionship because he never left her side and I mean that literally he locked himself up in this house and took care of Mommy 24 hours a day and she was the love of his life and he would never have put her into some type of care facility whatsoever (Back in 2015 my mom fell and broke her right hip and a few months later she fell again and broke her pelvis that time which had to be surgically repaired and due to her age at the time of her she was about maybe 85 give or take she had to go to a physical rehabilitation center for about two weeks so she could get the hang of walking again without any assistance like a walker and the last year of her life when she really started getting very bad making her home hospice and the hospice people used to come by like twice a week and they would bring mommy all of her different medicines and all of that stuff and not only were they there to check on my mom but they were also there to provide support love and caring to my father because watching his wife my mother with her away down to 84 pounds was breaking his heart in every way imaginable… my mom thankfully died here at home it only took four days from the beginning her “deathwatch” if you will only lasted four days from beginning until she drew her last breath and she had my dad my sister myself my husband and my kitty cat there with her throughout the entire process and we kept her calm and OK as best we could the end of life doctors prescribed medication that helped her when her bodily functions and systems began to just shut down and not work anymore and when she drew her last breath she had everyone that she loved the four of us standing right Next to her bed and we held her hands we crushed her we talked to her we told her how much we loved her and how much we were going to miss her and we also told her about heaven and the wonderful place that she was going to be going to one she left us and she had been afraid of the unknown she said to me shortly before she died” what’s gonna happen if I don’t wake up tomorrow?” And I let her know that it would not be painful she wouldn’t even know what happened she would just close her eyes to go to sleep and then she wouldn’t wake up anymore.. That seemed to calm her a great deal; and that I personally believed helped calm her fears about not knowing what’s gonna happen when she passes away and doesn’t open her eyes ever again and I kept reassuring her that there would be no more pain that she would get to see her mom and her dad and her grandparents and her loved ones who were all waiting for her up in heaven for her arrival; and that brought comfort to her in her final hours.. I think that it is despicable that anyone would even think about the idea of possibly divorcing their lifelong meet the mother of their children simply because she has a incurable disease and that will eventually take her life.. Is the gentleman in blood it’s a gentleman above feels like he wants to date another woman or have sex with someone else whatever the case may be that doesn’t mean that he has to abandoned and divorce the woman that has taken care of him his children his home his life everything you could think of for many many many decades like my parents who were married for 60 years.. my father never in 1 million zillion years would ever have considered doing something like that to my mom.. His greatest fear in life is that he possibly could die before Mommy did and he felt and knew that no one could take care of Mommy in the exact same manner that he did and that’s frightened him a great deal.. He did not trust the people at the center where Mommy had to go to after she had broken her hip for a couple weeks maybe two years before she passed and he saw how those people attendance nurses whoever they were they did not take good care of my mother and he quickly pulled her out of there and like I said he kept her at home with him and she also died at home, which was a place that was familiar to her and she recognized you know where everything went and like silverware I mean anything she knew her every single item in this home belongs whether it be on display or in her drawers or whatever but it’s been a great deal to her and I feel so grateful and privileged that I was able to be literally holding my mom‘s hands when she drew her last breath.. In my opinion the majority of people out in the world today adults between anywhere between 20 years old 40 years old they all know what these types of care facilities are like in this success records are very low and the majority of people die there and they die from neglect not from the initial illness that put them in there.. in my opinion that is murder 100%.. every single person has parents and everybody’s parents have taken care of them for a minimum of the first 20 years of their lifetime Until they get out on their own and even then the youngsters between 18 and 22 years old granted yes they may go to college however they are 100% completely dependent upon their parents to pay for their education to pay for their housing their food their books their cars everything else you can think of regarding expenses incurred while they’re attempting to get a college education She said of course for their future and whatever type of career they go into so they can be self-sufficient and not have to keep sponging off their parents Period!!!
I hope everyone is careful with what medications are given to the elderly. My Mom was given Ativan and it mimicked her having dementia. Once weaned off, she came back to life and had 2 more years with us until a stroke took her. Benzodiazepines (Xanax and Ativan) are often prescribed to the elderly and they should not be, imo.

Dad was 95 ans Mom was 85, of course he was too old to take on another woman and I don't think he would have.

My grandfather has Alzheimer's and has to be in a nursing home, and my grandmother goes to visit him everyday and on occasion I go with her. And I can tell you this he may not know her name, or exactly who he is but every time he sees her he gives her a kiss and reaches for her hand. He doesn't do this with anyone else just her. So no they aren't "gone" or the "walking dead" they are still human beings with emotions. And if you truly love someone you will be with them and help the through anything not just leave because something is to hard for you to deal, because however hard it is on you imagine how hard it is on the person with Alzheimer's.

Each Alzheimers case is different.
My mother started her dementia in her late 60,s and was still working until they made her retire because of forgetfulness .
When I would run into her coming from the store , she didn't know who I was . She was still living on her own until the dementia turned into Alzheimers. She still could go out by herself and find her way home for about 4 years . Then people would find her wandering and bring her to my sister.
Long story short , rarely did she remember who all of us were .
The last year or so , she was bedridden and passed away the day before her 85th birthday.
Alzheimers is terrible and very sad for a person to have .
I cared for my husband until he died of Alzheimer's. By myself. There is absolutely no way I would have abandoned him. Yes, it is hard but I do not think there is a short-cut and being selfish as Robertson suggests is a cowardly response. My husband died in 2016 and I am blessed with an absolutely clear conscience now. I do not see how any minister, let alone, a Baptist minister can suggest divorcing a sick spouse. How selfish have we become anyway? I think even non-Christians have more compassion than Robertson. He better hope he is not stricken with this dread disease.
This is so sad. I was a caregiver for a loved one with Dementia and it was if she left her body and an evil spirit entered just to cause havoc! Caregivers need all the help they can get - emotionally, physically, financially, and mentally. When someone states their vows, "in sickness and in health," they have to really understand that Dementia may be the sickness included in their vows. No judgment here - Dementia (Alzheimer's included) is cruel to all involved. I hope they find a cure soon!
My grandparents on my dad's side both died a fear years apart from eachother from Alzheimer's.

Well I can say one thing, I work with Alzheimer's patients every single day, and unfortunately, I feel they do forget their loved one, I know they definitely forget the name and I feel like sometimes they sense that they're there but they don't understand 😪 This is a heartbreaking disease 💔
And this also depends on what level they are at , are they in the beginning ,the middle or the end that really makes a big difference !!!
