Former Producer of the 700 Club exposes Pat Robertson

  • Mr. Gerard Straub was formerly a producer for Pat Robertson's 700 Club, but soon became disillusioned with that brand of theocracy. In fact, he was so incensed with Robertson's demagoguery that he wrote a book called "Salvation for Sale," which exposes Robertson for the fraud that he is. This speech was delivered at a meeting of Americans United in 1995.

Always question a person's motives when they are pretending to speak for God, however you define the concept, are they living the humble life the man Jesus lived or are they feathering their nest now living in such wealth far above the poor widows who they beg for their Social Security checks, in short, just think, and, "call no man rabbi/teacher for you have but one teacher."

+Jesus or Money, Power and Prestige ? Jesus is a fairytale as well. And just as real as Thor is. Both are figments of the imagination of desperate lonely people.

    • @LiesMoneyOrJesus
      @LiesMoneyOrJesus Před 8 lety +2

Tak Wolf Okay, this is interesting, yes, let's talk. What do you know about the man Jesus other than the way he's been misrepresented by the church and others who simply seek to make a religion out of him?
I'm assuming you understand that the Buddha never made any extraordinary claims of divinity and instructed his followers that after his passing they should not either. Likewise, the man Jesus never made any extraordinary claim of divinity in spite of what you assume, based on foolishness you've heard.
Now I know that to be an objective intellectual there are certain things you can't believe and be accepted into your community but you see, I've never been worried about acceptance, not by any village, and I think it's pitifully amusing for people who must seek acceptance of others, whether one claims to be a theist or an atheist not being able to stand on their own and believing this is individuality. Now I know where you're going to go, you're going to try to explain critical thinking to me and this I find even more amusing because the first thing you're going to say is that anything you can't see is illogical to believe. So I would ask you when have you ever seen love? You say you love your wife, you love your children, your mom and dad so show me the love, I'll wait.
I will also assume, of course, understanding the problems with assuming, that you know you can't see a tornado, you can only see its effects.
Also, as to weather, [perceiving your question] the man Jesus ever walked the earth, whether a metaphor or a composite, it simply doesn't matter. Deny the wisdom of such sayings as, "Do not resist [oppose] evil, but overcome [defeat] evil with good." And again, "if someone would take something from you give them what they ask and then give them more." You see, even though I can quote from a printed text, such as the bible or any philosophers they are not my source of authority I simply recognize that I can learn something from even the most foolish and sometimes others who have come before me simply confirmed what I have already been given to understand. You see people make a lot of assumptions and much more often than not, they are as clueless as the ones they would ridicule.
Now because I know I'm wasting my time I'll be brief as I try to clear up basic misconceptions, such as foolish notions of a man in the sky which is just as foolish as believing in time, or space, time, because I don't believe in the supernatural, but only the natural and this physical illusion, we deem to be reality. Are you still with me? Well, never mind I will just stop here and see if you read and consider what I've said or if you've only been formulating your argument against it.
      Respectfully, Jerry
Postscript: how old are you? I mean this is important because not only is it not my place but it would be wrong for me to talk about such things with anyone who still has a legal guardian, i.e. minor children, I cannot suppose to instruct someone else's child, that's wrong on every level.

I wonder what this ex-producer's relationship with Jesus is or was? I know one thing, the 700 club has done more charitable work and ministerial work and outreaches than you can shake a stick at, to use a cliché. I've watched it on and off for years and their Christian doctrine is solid. They are an evangelistic outreach for Christ, and many souls have come to the Lord through them. Pat R may be getting old and a bit senile and isn't always cognizant of what he is saying. But he is a man of God and the message the 700 Club brings forth is one of God's love and forgiveness. As far as the Christian right. The goal of Christians, first and foremost, is to win people to the Lord so they may receive forgiveness and reconciliation with the Father. God will establish a theocracy on earth, not human beings, This is clearly laid out in the scriptures. Do not equate the far right with Christianity, because Christianity is not a religion, it is a relationship. Your life is a puff of smoke that rises and disappears in an instant. Tell me, are you certain where you'll spend eternity? You are not guaranteed tomorrow. Stop worrying about Pat Robertson, and start thinking about yourself. Pat Robertson did not die on a cross for you. Jesus did.

I think "in vain" means ANY use of "God" to enhance one's own personal vanity, to make oneself "look good" by "God-talk" and to leverage that for huge personal gain, being a huckster for Self in the guise of being a huckster for God.

The U.S. has never embraced any religious establishment according to the First Amendment, but our laws and Constitution were all based on the morality of the Old and New Testaments of the Bible. They didn't have the illegal "wall of separation" between church and state as that has been purposely misinterpreted by the unbelieving left. When asked about the use of the Bible in our schools, Jefferson stated that the Bible is the cornerstone of education. Patrick Henry, who understood clearly the establishment of our Constitution and our laws, stated that “It cannot be emphasized too strongly or too often that this great nation was founded, not by religionists, but by Christians; not on religions, but on the Gospel of Jesus Christ”.

I saw and heard nothing on this video which "exposes" Pat Robertson. The author may have well have said, "Pat Robertson" has doctrines and opinions that are substantially similar to evangelicals throughout the world." Of course that's primarily because he's an evangelical. What's really startling is that holding traditional values and orthodox views of God and Scripture is considered, by the truly intolerant, to be so novel as to warrant this much attention.

I can understand your disgust with Pat Robertson's 700 Club and the vast majority of televangelist charletans. I share your disgust. They do not carry God's message to you and me.
Here is the truth, and what you need to know to escape eternal punishment.
Simply believe that Christ died for your sins, was buried, and the third day rose again from the dead.
You don't need to do anything to attain your salvation. Simply trust Christ. All religions require you to do something. All religions want your money. All religions want to control you.
But Christ says just trust me.
I pray you read this and with Grace, which you and I are in, will see you to the truth.

This is a sad example of former believers who were turned away from the true Gospel of Jesus Christ by unscrupulous so called Christian leaders who do not wish to honor God's will but are only concerned with lining their pockets by perverting the scriptures as follows: (1) First of all Christians were not called to run the government or get involved in civilian affairs.. "No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier." 2Timothy 2:4 (2) Christian leaders are called to preach the "Good News" of the Gospel of Christ only; Luke 15:16, and only those "which do hunger and thirst after righteousness" will respond to it. Matthew 5:6 (3) We are in the last days and every day false teachers are arising; "Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron; 1Timothy 4:1-2. In conclusion; Yes it is true that we have false preachers in Christianity, but it is also true that we have TRUE BELIEVERS WHO believe in THE WRITTEN GUARANTEE OF THEIR FAITH instead of a philosophical figment of their imagination based in an unbelievers unfounded theory. God bless..

Well, this guy sounds like a mainline Christian, so it is no surprise he would take issue with Evangelicals like Pat. There's no mystery to the attraction of Pat Robertson from an Evangelical viewpoint. Ignoring the theological differences, CBN satisfies a need. It is one of the few positive magazine/news shows, and it is Christian as well, which is an attractive combination to Christians who are starved of decent content. Hollywood just doesn't produce the goods anymore. Depressing, negative content is the order of the day. As for Pat Robertson, at 87 year old he's now humbler, and more of a grandfather figure. I haven't actually seen him trying to 'prophesy' as this guy seems to imply. He'll make predictions, but he's pretty circumspect; as any reasonable person would be. More than I can say for your average left wing journo pre-election!
As for words like 'cult', um, NO... Go and read up on cults. I've not heard of CBN breaking into government offices, attempting to extract info for blackmail, breaking up families, following people, running private prisons, jumping on Oprah's couch... :-)

...All of this misguided attention and focus on a man.
I don't align my beliefs with what Pat Robertson asserts or even what he truly believes.
There is but one worthy example of perfection for man to compare himself.
The absurd concept of pitting one man against his brother was first demonstrated by Cain and Able, and the associated folly continues to the present.
Those who seek light, do not search while blindfolded.
Likewise, if you choose to follow Christ; keep your focus on Christ alone.
Should we be surprised to uncover evidence of self-serving deceitfulness in Pat Robertson?
Hardly, for that is the true nature of all men.
    Jesus taught us that.

Unbelievable the way people use God's name as a way to gain political power and wealth. To be out of the body is to be present with God, it won't be long before Pat Robertson will have to explain why he was a selfish, self righteous, exclusive person on earth. Pat's thinking does not align with God's teachings.
