  • In this video I am doing a drill guide review of a product from Amazon called The Best Woodworking Drill Locator in 2021.
However I can confirm it isn't the best anything! in the video I run through the major fault with it and confirm that you shouldn't buy this product!

Always nice to see someone explain why the expensive original is still worthwhile, and the cheap copy is useful only as balloon ballast.

There's a Temu version of this tool that looks similar, it's twice the price and has excellent reviews from other CZcamsrs. It actually looked like a solid product and it worked pretty well.

Phew, just about bought the same one haha. Good real review! Just some constructive criticism, would be nice for the audio to be uniform in your videos. Goes from soft voiceovers to loud front of camera audio. Nasty when wearing earphones and it would be a simple fix in post-production. Just a small thing to up the quality and viewing experience! Nonetheless, very informative!

Hi I think the chuck may be assembled wrong! remove the hexagon shaft from the chuck, pass the hexagon shaft through the bearing and refit the chuck. the chuck then can not fall out.

    Hi Matt,
I bought the same drill guide from Banggood and it arrived this morning all assembled with foam inserts to stop any parts moving during transport. I have checked the chuck and there is absolutely no wobble or movement. It did cost £50 however. I have not used it yet but no doubt time will tell.

I received one from Baggood today. It is sturdy, not perfect for $60 US, but it works well and appears to be consistent. Not wobbly like yours. The chuck has not fallen out either. I think if it had three posts it would be really accurate. It looks just like the Woodpecker one. A close comparison could not reveal anything different between the two. However, the centering pins does not put a hole on center. It aligned better if I did not push with the handle of the drill but pushed directly over the chuck with downward pressure. Therefore I think pushing down with the handle of the drill cause the alignment to move due to flexing. I will probably keep it.

I was looking at this same drill guid on temu and I was wondering how bad this thing really was. Some of the photos actually show a woodpecker drill guide. It's a ripoff if I've ever seen one.

  • @jmegown52302
    @jmegown52302 Před 8 měsíci

On my similar guide, the chuck goes on the bottom of the bearing and the drill adapter goes on the top of the bearing, thus sandwiching the bearing.

Bought similar knock off. Had exact same problem. Drill chuck fell out, didn’t work. Bearing crappy and fell out. Amazon banned the seller, so I’m sure I won’t get my money back. Paid about $30 USD. Happened about 18 months ago or so. The woodpeckers version is more than a DIY bench drill press.

the reason why the drill chuck falls of is because its suposed to be locked in place from the top with a different bolt than the one you have, bought mine from temu and it works fine although its not the best drill stand out there.

I really liked the idea of this tool, but $259 is certainly too high. Therefore, I also want to purchase an analog of such a tool from Ali. But then why don't you try to change the bearing holding the chuck and strengthen the guides with a PTFE tape (for example)?

There are several The Rockler drill Guide I did not like because it does not have a return spring and it does not have any way to set a distance from the edge of a board and repeat this seting on as many boards as needed. The woodpeckers guide is the only one to be able to do this.

Got mine off eBay don't get me wrong not had any problems at this point had it for a bit now but if the frame is ok why not change the bearing in it I do t to most of my tools when I get them as I know my self from past experience that is always the week point even my Piller drills have the same problem use it a couple of times the wobble not going to lie most of my drills wobble after a bit change the bearing and bk up and running your find most bearings they use are cheap mostly to cut cost that brakes then you need new tools most of my tools if had for years by just doing this one upgrade it works out better than buying new tools all the time and what a bearing cost it's nothing really because the bearing is rubbish don't mean the tool is sorry hat to edit this if watched your video again you put it together wrong your Chuck yes goes on the bottom but the Shaft goes on the top

Just ordered one from eBay think it could be the same as yours.
    Only 10 pounds.
I think the red part's are plastic.
There was a better one, the red part's made from aluminium cost 25 pounds think I should of brought that one.
If the one I've ordered from eBay is crap it can go back for a refund then I'll order the aluminium one.
Just like the Evolution compound miter saw I brought made in China had some very badly machined parts.
I phoned Evolution and had the part's replaced.
Some of the tool's are very poor quality but the company's having there equipment made in China don't care about that, as long as they're raking in profits.
    Thanks for your review.

This style of guides are ergonomically terrible. You need to press firmly on the base with one hand, then you need to raise your other arm pretty high to push down with force the drill while keep the motion vertical. Is not easy unless you have a big wingspan.
There is some little play so you better push down vertically very smoothly else it won't be really straight.
