- Big mixing consoles sure look impressive... however, installing them can be a bit of a nightmare!

Buys a console for $100k. "Don't do this at home"
Ya don't worry, I won't.
Olds77421 lmao there so dumb
@@dxcember227 they're*
And here I am, sitting with my Scarlett 2i2 and Logic
lemme one up you.
2 input behringer interface
cakewalk
free pluggins
as long as you're writing music with it.
And, with some of the right plugins will get you about 96% of the quality. A mic/line preamp and DAC is a commodity product, easy to make and make well. Because it's cheap doesn't mean it doesn't work really well. 112Db is a lot of headroom, -128Db of Noise and .002% TIN is fantastic, and those numbers hold up. A treated room and good microphones are way more important.
lol honestly. Focusright 2i2 with Pro Tools First with stock plugins. If you know what you're doing, you can make amazing stuff with the bare minimal! It's the creator who makes it great, not the amount of gear and plug ins you have!
I got you all beat. Tascam 4-track. Normalize in audacity. Done
There`s a scratch on the back, return it and get a replacement ;-)
Hmmm... maybe!
Betcha they scratched it just getting it out of the crate
hahahahah
@PunchingMegaTree yeah I didn't mean from the factory, I meant these jackasses
The truck loaders figuring out how to get the console down used more brain cells than Gibson's entire marketing department combined.
Rather more than the entire Gibson Corp.
Which has more brain cells, a wooden desk or Gibson marketing?
@@blue-tb2fd I think we all know the answers to that :)
If they had a few functioning brain cells, the guy who loaded it on the truck, might have looked at it, and seen the problem with getting it off the truck, so they wouldn't have to wait for a second truck to be sent. You'd think they'd look at a package that size, and then phone to see if the people receiving it, had the means to get it off the truck.
Don't mess with Mexican engineering!
100,000 dollars ? Could you edit mix and master something for me ? I could pay you later after I sell some CDs 😃

Nah man, invest in cassette tapes, those are sure to pay off! Trust me.
@@AnotherAnon 😀 👍
8 track tapes are coming back!!!!!!
I've never experienced more anxiety watching a CZcams video
Try being there! I don't think I had any fingernails left!
Tell me about it! I dealt with my anxiety by telling myself that if they actually dropped or damaged the console it would have never made it to youtube. Worked great! lol
Right?!
I don't know if the commercial insert was automated or not but it was perfectly timed just at the moment they didn't have a good grip for the initial lift out of the crate.
yea i legit nearly unsubbed lol
First time ever I see a referral link for a 100K thingie :D
This was a harrowing day, Glenn, let's never do this again hahaha
3:45 had me like DONT YOU DARE QUESTION THE WORK OF A MEXICAN! THE JOB WILL GET DONE
When the guy's foot got caught in the wrap, my heart skipped a beat!
Isn't it common sense to remove anything from the floor before you walk around carrying something extremely heavy and fragile?? lmao. especially if its bubble wrap... like breh wtf haha
It's all fun and games until a drunk bass player pours beer all over it!
$2 beer > $100k mixing console
Easy fix dont allow food and drink within the recording rooms
Why bass player 🤣
Why a bass player? Bass players are more reasonable, they behave very well They know Always a guitarist can be found who can play their parts! Nobody cares about them (in rock and metal)
I correct you: vocalist!
They believe alcohol makes their voice better! They are frontmen..
Where does the beer cost $2?
I knew disabling adblocker on your videos would make a difference.
Oh by the way, you're welcome.
Literally the best ive had it for 3 years now lol
I love how casually the description states "Audient console as configured is roughly around $100,000... get one for yourself at..." like its pocket change.
Exactly! Get one for yourself with every single penny you will earn for the next 10 years...
Thanks for showing us the install, I've been there and you handled yourself with grace. Love the new space.
$100K console... but didn't rent a forklift for a few hundred more. What a shame.
Obsidian s spent it all on the console 😂🤷🏻♂️
Same thing with people buying a new iPhone but won't buy a new charger cable until one end is in the us and the other in south africa, lmao
Hey Obsidian s "That is exactly what I just stated!" There are operators that need extra funds for a days work. I just looked it up. the 2005 Diesel CAT TH580B as an example could lift this console with no problem. Just contact "work for hire" fork lift operator. That is certainly what Pro Audio did in LA., to get the console on the truck.
This was the very first SMG video I ever watched, and it just popped back up on my timeline after my 2 year journey through SMG videos. Cheers! You guys have helped me so much!
I taught an audio engineer student and the professor how to use the more advanced computer controls of a $200k (ish, could be totally off base with that number) console by opening the manual... And reading it.
3:34 "It's big brain time"
I don't get you guys. Why not just use GarageBand?
Seventeen usb hubs, and a pile of Steinberg UR22MK2s. Some used mics we got on ebay. We're a pro studio now, mang.
@The Crimson One That's irony
Was wondering... Can you name something that you can't do in Garageband, that you can do on this $100,000 console?
@@servanttofriend8481 Not gonna buy a console ever, but console users prefer the workflow. Some people spend money on guitars. Some people spend money on studio gear.
It’s the sound you get from it. Each console is unique because mixing consoles are not available in retail stores. You have to order them according to your needs and specifications. So the sound you get from it is special, and makes your music sound like you want and with incredible sound and quality. GarageBand is ok if you want to do some demos, but it still sounds digital and robotic, so it won’t give you studio quality, unless you have some nice (and expensive) plugins. No professional band will ever record on an interface and a laptop.
props to the workers that delivered and brought the console down for you guys.
Yes, they were awesome!
I’m so excited to see the releases you will be engineering with this bad boy! Congrats on your awesome purchase and success!
Glad to see you got it into your studio! Some pretty tense moments from the truck. I even got concerned when they lifted it through the gate and main doorway. Gave me anxiety just watching the process. But I know it will be all worth it in the end. Enjoy your new Big Mixing Console! Looks fantastic!
Congratulations... Audient ASP consoles are beautiful and often overlooked. Great heritage, great pre’s, awesome filters and functionality... happy days
I was around 16 when my dad bought an old Quad Eight from a studio and we had to overhaul it. The thing was a beast! relay switching!
Love audient stuff. i studied at SAE on one of this consoles. its amazing working with it. the routing is very nice. the matrix system is awesome and the channel strips are great for quick mixing. weather you want a quick rough mix or a close to final mix, this can do it.
Congrats guys! There's nothing like getting new gear! Enjoy! Def do a follow up vid man. We'll be waiting...
Should've been sponsored by redbull, that was terrifying!😱😱😱
Installing that looks like a blast! Man I love getting new audio gear or gear in general, and then spending forever trying to figure it out.
When I work out how they built the ancient megaliths I'll pick one up. Used. Very, very used.
Thank you guys so much for this video as we're about to purchase and install a MCISony 3036 at our studio in Palm Springs, California. Sending this to my producer in Lucerne so he knows what to expect before he moves here! Thank you for the laughs, and for the middle finger salute to your buddy who, (kiddingly, we hope), prefers digital gear. You guys are awesome!
What's the equivalent of $100,000 in exposure?
A Nike endorsement deal? Question is who gets more exposure you or the brand xd.
You're watching it.
Probably 10 secs of a Kardashian Instagram story, give or take
This gave me anxiety just watching it. Props to you guys for getting it moved! The box truck guys killed it! 🤘🏻
Also I unload that size of box weekly at work, you just need 3 other real men an a fork lift to get it as close as possible. It's amazing what you can do when it's not your $100,000 investment lol!
@John Zona LOL so this must only be a $100,000 console if your a moron type of thing.
3000 cable terminations
800lbs of awkward
80 OHSA violations
18 smashed fingers
8 herniated disks
4 dudes that said “we’re not gonna be responsible for damages 😳
1 Sweet board
Priceless....
or 100k I guess 🤘🏽
All to replace it with samples :)
Man that was awesome yet stressful Glenn. Glad it all worked out for my friend.
I've learned how to mix on a SSL Duality SE and I'm missing it everyday. I mean for real... every single day. like it was alive or something. I'm feeling so pleased for you guys, this is just a really stunning point in life of a musician.
hell.yea glenn! what a gear delivery day. betvu were geeked all day over this. congrats brotha
Love the bit at the end with the Pro Audio LA guys looking way more calm than everybody else.
congrats on the new rig man. you must be pumped!
Can't tell you how many times I flinched in this video! Would love to see a setup tour for Harmony and your wiring diagrams!
Second faders are usually inline from the tape deck, for listening purposes when tracking. Not really necessary in a modern DAW environment, but you can use it for several other purposes. Second line mix although the routing is limited. Don’t know this Audient mixer well so.
But congrats on a wicked console! :)
Congratulations! I’m excited for you all
In other news
Look at all these bedroom producers foaming at the mouth
I am a bedroom producer and i had to flag this video as adult content/porn.
@Robert Grant But a large format console is just the typical analog gear in a housing that makes it possible to reach all elements.
"The parts that make up the thing aren't obsolete, but the solution having them within reach is obsolete" is silly.
@Robert Grant So is that why all major music studios have a table with a computer on it instead of a mixing console? Oh wait...
@Robert Grant nah, doing what a moron tells me to would make me a moron by default 😉 Have a great day lil buddy.
Nice to see an analog console going into a studio ... we don't get enough of that lately in my opinion. I went for summing for the moment but as soon as a console becomes a possibility it will happen for me too. Jus promise that more real performance than samples will go through the board!
I don't know why, but that was a really fun video to watch! Can't wait to see some of your tutorial vids utilizing this beast :)
Nice master control board ya got there! Very creative in getting it off the truck. Props to Adidas Guy lifting that thing too. Those LA Audio guys are hardcore too. Putting my place together was rough but seems cake compared to all that youz went through. Congratulations!
Glenn, you have two sets of faders because this is an "in-line" recording console! The "top" short-throw cables and that section of the console goes to your record path - it's where you put your effects/processing "on the way in". The "bottom" long-throw cables are your returns from your DAW as your "monitoring path." That's where you can make non-destructive changes during the mixing process.
In-line console signal flows I've seen typically go like this:
Input (line or preamp)-> input processing/insert -> input fader -> ADC -> DAW -> DAC -> monitor path input -> monitor path processing/insert -> monitor fader -> mix bus -> 2-track recorder -> console monitor section -> speakers
Great application for an input fader: tame the signal coming off a hot preamp like an API
i have installed a few ssl's, a neve, a trident 80, a helios, a yamaha pm2k, and quite a few smaller desks. do not miss all the soldering and patch bay work. looks like a great desk. hope you make great music on it. cheers.
We have the same exact model at the studio I work at!! It came with a few flaws from shipping but Audient was quick to send replacment components!
This was actually hilarious to watch. I read the comments before watching, and they did not disappoint
This seems like a big milestone for specter sound
Congrats man
It’s not my personal goals but this was cool to watch
I like how Trey was just standing around "supervising" :p
That's how movers/delivery people earn a nice tip.
The tip of Glenn's shoe up their asses if they drop it
It's been a few years since working on an Audient console but I'm pretty sure the top set of faders controls the level at which signal gets sent to the DAW (converters) during tracking. At least that's how we had it set up. I could be wrong though! Beautiful console, Glenn!
Yoose guys are the real thing alright, with great sound on the video soundtrack to boot.
those consoles are amazing. I love the bass xpand on it spent a lot of time on one of those last year at school at OIART.
3:30 "You're gonna have to back the truck up a little!"
Delivery guy: "I'm gonna do what's called a pro gamer move"
I don't get why you made it that easy for them to deliver it.
All on the ground floor, no stairs, not even spiral staircase to up the challange a little.
But you've done a good job by choosing a room small enough, so that if the engineer would wear a 1mm thicker shirt the console would break
through the wall.
buerger3 wow, you sure know how to layer the sarcasm!
Receiving and moving a big console is always a big, scary, dangerous chore. When I got my A&H ML5000 48B live sound desk, it was fortunately a rather easy move to take it off the palette and directly into it's road case, but it did take 6 of us to deal with that. Secure the lid and putting it on the wheels took 4 guys. Then moving it into the trailer to take it home was a 2-man job. 2 months later I got rid of that trailer and got a box truck. I've been through your "let's receive and install a large format studio desk" a few times. Have fun with the inline desk design. Once you get the hang of it, you'll love how it works over that of a split-desk design.
Thanks for filming this! I’m sure carrying that thing in was awful, but it still seems like the whole experience was pretty exciting!
Wow props to the loaders man!
my heart goes out to all the old mixer consoles this mans ever had. you are still loved. even tho he wants them killed dead.
Brings back a lot of memories. Been there done that.
Metal can't live without you the beautiful people who make high-quality metal music.
I guess you guys can make more money from hip hop, pop.... But you are Artist not a businessman. You have my respect and love.
You guys had it easy Glenn! Lol! When Peter Frampton lived near me in the Cincinnati area, over a decade ago now, he had a desk probably larger installed on the second floor of his house. The crew had to remove the windows & lower it in on a crane past the deck. But man, what a view!
Congrats guys enjoy the console✌🏽
The truck loaders are the stuff of legends, cool mixer mate!!
Yeah I prefer that DAW thingy. Much easier to move around and wire up =)
This video is so cool!!! I have 16 channel small board take me forever to set up. i could not imagine that board setup time.
That is one awesome machine! :) ♪
Congrats, Glenn!
David Dearden kicks ass I have one of his earlier designs DDA DMR12, killer sounding console.
Good luck
I remember doing some servicing-work on an 80's vintage 28 Channel Soundcraft mixing desk, I had to physically cut out parts of some 80-way ribbon cable that had been chewed on by rats, and then use a soldering iron, solder, and thin heatshrink tubing to literally re-join every single wire to splice it all together so that all the signal buses worked, the desk was pretty huge and had real analog style VU meters, it was a fun job, and I managed to get the desk to the point where it was pretty much fully functional, the guy who owns it wants me to do some re-capping work on all the channel strips so that they all sound good and consistent.
To many twiddly things for the bass player to still beer in
As a bass player I don't SPILL bear !!!!! I throw up on the whole thing.
That actually happened to Lita Ford. I know, not a bass player but still. When she was in the Runaways, she knocked a Heiniken over onto a console and even though they weren't really receiving any money as a band, she got even less due to having to pay off the studio getting a new one. To this day, almost forty years later, she has a strict "No food/drink in the studio" policy on her projects.
My heart was in my throat the whole time getting it off the truck.
That desk is so good, we have one at the university I study at. Just saying, the black faders are meant for input & white faders are for playback, you can flip them but there you go.
I’ve never heard a Fricker terror scream. This was a rocking horse shit moment for sure.
Was a hell of a day
Ahhh yes two sets of faders. Cleaning up and prep tracks on the way into pro tools on the small faders, bus to pt, then back to line ins on board on large faders to do your mix then record the main bus off the board for your print:)
Holy cow, it reminds me to my delivery of my two arcade games in a totally unadapted place....
Epic that everything went fine
Nice new mixer!
Working in a small professional laboratory without a loading dock this video gave me flashbacks to the countless times we almost lost heavy, expensive equipment off the back of a truck. The freight company guys know how to work small miracles with minimal equipment!
Many many congratulations
wow cool I'm surprised you didn't buy one from Harley Benton to save some cash
Dude that’s sick I feel ya on the work great job
That board is amazing! Then here I am, adjusting my volume knob.
Brings back memories. Nice to see a real desk going in a studio, instead of the latest DAW!
Your reaction when he extends the lifting apparatus is priceless good sir
THAT moment when the truck moves with the console at the back .. priceless !
The studio I work at installed one of those a year or so ago. It definitely was a major pain in the ass to get in the room and the next day it took myself and another engineer almost a full 8 hour day to get everything plugged and patched in. We replaced a Sony DMX-R100 with the HE and the difference was night and day! I have a few gripes about the Audient, but overall it's an amazing sounding console.
Very interesting...thanx for sharing this "moments".
The fun part of a console install is measuring and soldering several miles worth of snakes, and then spending hours installing and testing every connection and hoping you didn't mess any up.
congrats ...looking pretty iffy for a second there with Pablo and the pallet cracking and splintering ...but he "pulled" .....through lol
Good stuff Glenn
About a year ago, the guy running the studio that my band rehearses at had purchased a humongous mixing console, and he asked us for help moving it to the control room from the parking lot. We're a six piece band, two of the members had worked as roadies before, and even then, we required assistance from our a couple of our band members' dads. The studio owner let us rehearse for free that day, which looking back at it, was kind of a shit payment, but hey, it certainly was a break from the rehearsal routine.
WTF Glenn!!! I was waiting for something like this!
Man, and I thought setting up my 24x8x2 console was a pain... this is killer, man!
Proud of You dude!
Congratulations on your acquisition, very nice. Looks like tape returns with those secondary faders . Does it have a 4 band EQ on all channels including the return channels? Awesome looking Board man! Look foreward to a run thru video! Cheers
I'd love to see a video of this mixing board in action!
This is a serious question, why is this better than DAW mixer thing? I hope this doesn't sound disrespectful
Not specifically better, but, it all comes down to preference. An engineer who’s worked analog his entire life will work wonders in a console like this, and workflow may be easier compared to DAW, quicker too
What do you think about zz top using triggers in their recent performances?
It's so beautiful!
