    I think the problem is not just financial. Bulgaria uses money as an excuse. Europe repeatedly offended Bulgaria. It was expected that things would turn in that direction. After so many injustices and politics in this music contest, this development is logical. How much more Bulgaria have to suffer of this injustice? Looking at the results of the past few years, people really have to be ashamed of their level of intelligence and intellectual development.

    • @brocklod3673
      @brocklod3673 Před 5 lety

      nikita They should have won in 2016, Portugal was a very deserving winner in 2017 bringing something different unlike Bulgaria that was so overrated with that boring song and this year's result was deserving, Bones was awful.

    • @nikita-hq5ug
      @nikita-hq5ug Před 5 lety +4

      Brocklod I do not think you know what you're talking about. BULGARIA and BONES won the Marcel Bezençon Awards for BEST EUROVISION SONG 2018. Kristian Kostov and his ''Beautiful Mess'' in 2017 was also the best thing ever happend on this scene. And Polly Genova in 2016 was great and unique with her "If love was a crime''. For the last 3 years, Bulgaria has been sending the best music ever. Let's be honest. And all these 3 years, it deserved to win. We must acknowledge the truth if we don't want to lose more countries in such injustice.

    I think they spent far too much money the past three years and it's a real shame. I fear the same might happen to Macedonia - It's just not sustainable to put so much money into 3 of the best entries (2016-2018) - they do need to come up with a long term plan and hopefully they don't leave us for 3 years like last time!!

    Denmark left eurovision in the beginning of the 70s just because the new manager of the tv-channel didnt like eurovision. As soon as he retired, at the end of the 70s, Denmark came back.
    As long as the ESC fans in Bulgaria keeps demanding they air the show and keep an ESC-fandom alive despite not participating (Hey, it's possible, just look at Australia from the 90s until 2014), then I believe that Bulgaria will be back sooner or later.
    Because why are they leaving? Financial priorities, not lack of funding.
    It is NOT lack of funding or difficulties advancing to the final like Andorra, Monaco or Luxemburg.
    It is NOT a dark conservative regime like Turkey.
    It is NOT even lack of interest like Slovakia and Morocco.
    That's why I believe they will be back. If the fans of the ESC in Australia could make it happen against all odds, then so can Bulgaria.

    But let's be honest, every single participation costs million euros and some public broadcasters cannot afford such an expense, especially the small ones. BNT's press release looks like a final decision but I really hope that the management will reconsider their decision and find several millions of funding and give the highest priority to international forum events like Eurovision.

    Honestly, it seems that the fact that their overhyped act in 2018 didn't get the result they were hoping, must have something to it. Specially since they invested tons of money in Equinox (including the fact they got two American singers), got Sacha Jean Baptiste to stage their entry, all the media and hype from BNT. All of that isn't cheap or economic at all and the fact they only got 14th after all the investment, might put some people at BNT really off.

    It sounds like Eurovision is becoming a financial drain on a lot ofthe smaller broadcasting authorities, maybe it needs to scale back a bit. I don`t know what these countries would do if they won! They`d never be able to afford to host the actual event

    the director of the BNT(Bulgarian national television), just a couple of months ago went to prison for drunk driving. The network was forced to change a lot of things very quickly. This is why.

    I feel like I am the only one here who doesnt appreciate Bulgaria in ESC. I just dont like their entries, it feels forced, more and more each year. Still sad about it.

      Celine F I'm with you, actually I really liked their song in 2016, but I hated their 2017 song, super boring and overrated. This year was just a hot mess, I didn't get what they were trying to say with that song.

      Brocklod same same same. I liked Poli, I would not have put it as high as it actually got, I had Beautiful mess in my personal Top 15 and I have Bones in my bottom 5. They still take so much effort and this is always a good sign, also so many people love it, so why should I be mad about it. But I couldtn care less about their withdrawal if what they would have send 2019 was like this year.

    First when I saw this I thought "that's obviously fake news, it can't be true." and decided to check the eurovision 2019 Wikipedia page just in case and when I saw that we were withdrawing for real, I screamed "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!" so loud that my dad ran into my room to see what's happened.

    I'm very disappointed that Bulgaria won't be joining us next year, it must be terrible for the ESC fans over there. It can't be easy for prospective artists either. It's to be hoped that they'll be back soon.
    I do however think you are reading too much into this. Bulgaria aren't a wealthy country, I suspect they just plain can't afford it. Of course ESC provides three solid nights of world class entertainment, but their broadcaster has 362 other nights to fill. It costs a lot of money to enter ESC (ask SMRTV San Marino), it costs a hell of a lot more if you win (ask KAN Israel). I fear the ever escalating cost of a credible entry will mean we'll see more of this (Ukraine aren't out of the woods yet). More than 1 or 2 countries enter the contest every year hoping to do well, 2nd place is a bit too close for comfort, top 5 is great. They're not in it to win it (though I doubt they'd admit that publicly).
    I don't think it will be long before we wake up the morning after an ESC final to discover that the winners have with regret declined to host the next competition, because they can't afford it.
