      This needs to be a reality. Needs. There have to be twice as many 4.6 2vs sitting around doing nothing that need to see some boost examples. Like at exactly what point do the rods fold, if you replace rods, when do the pistons shatter? Supposedly the crank is good for the end of the block.
      Purely a vote, but I suggest 4.6 from a panther because itll probably be the cheapest. Itll be iron and it will have the worst parts of almost any of them.

    4.6, 2 valve
    Smaller displacement v8 with a short stroke. These engines with a few basic improvements can have a very broad range of power and these suckers rev up. Andrew lavender has a built 2v on boost, turbo, and he beats the piss out of that car. I think he said his rev limit is right about 8,100-8,200 on pump E85 in his earlier days.
    I'm a huge fan of the 2v engines. Simple, very durable and they sound good. By far one of the best budget engines to work with for both simplicity and they are tough. Definitely do a big bang 4.6, but keep it as budget minded as possible as that's why guys buy these because they're so inexpensive and easy to find. Let's see what kind of numbers you can get out of them before the rods, pistons, bearings or block, maybe a slurry of all of the above. Lol

    • @deanstevenson6527
      @deanstevenson6527 Před 3 lety +2

      Colton Robinson and RyTrapp0 : Ford learned from what it did with the Cosworth Belt Drive A and DFV and DFX and Cleveland engines, which were 3.78 and 4.38 bore spacing engines spat out from the same basic mass production transfer line. Even the Hart 850 hp alloy BDT and Cosworth alloy DFX Indy Cart 850 hp and NASCAR 351W/C engines were essentially almost a mass produced aftermarket race engine cobbled up from Fords iron engine base. The basic Mod engine is a pizza base. Ford had other engines on the 3.937 inch spacing Mod platform that made awesome ZR1 Corvette quad cam and more power. The 281 cuber iron 2V was just a door stop that sold in REAL volume and stopped people buying Celicas , Scions and spindly rod 4.7 Tundras.Fords pizza base plus approach ment the eventual alloy block 4.6, 5.0 and Ford GT 5.4 Four Valver stuff also goes right on any iron block base. Its basics are sound, the crack off powdered rods are going to be okay on a dyno, not in the real world. But remember the Holdener 1046 hp 5.8 liter turbo truck F150 engine which used stock 5.936 inch Windsor forged rods. Epic Fail! The 4.6 liter...it should have been born a 5 liter instead of a 4.6 from birth. Ford had decided to make the Teskid Cammer its lead halo engine. The single cam per bank 4.6 was born 15% down on power and torque from birth. Ford did that on purpose. It sold more of them that way.

    A Big Bang 4.6 2v test would be awesome! A lot of people saying 400-450whp is the limit and I would like to know what fails. They always say rods fail but I wonder if that’s to weak rods in general or if it’s ring gap. So many 2vs out there some legit testing would be sweet

    One of the 2V's major design flaws was the plastic coolant crossover. Since the timing chain covers block the front of the engine, Ford couldn't move the crossover down into the water pump casting, as GM did with the Gen 3 (LS). This is why the LS has 2 coolant holes on each leg of the water pump - the top ones function as the crossover since those 2 holes make 90 degree angles once in the block to connect the head water passages. Random factoid....

    @Richard Holdener - Hey Rich, they actually continued to use them in the Mercury Grand Marquis beyond 2004. I pulled a 4.6 2v out of a 2006 Grand Marquis and dropped it into my 01' GT. If I am not mistaken that 2v engine was used until around 2010 or something like that.
    One thing for sure - they sound absolutely amazing!

      @michaelharris748 Před 3 lety

      Man dont be scared of forced induction just make sure you get it tuned good by someone who knows those engines and use good fuel. You can run 400 whp (which is alot more than you currently have) for a long time with good fuel and tuning.

    Old video I know, but thanks. I'm walking through your Mod-motor playlist now. IMO the SN95 Mustang is the place to be right now for a cheap, vintage performance car. It's at the right point in the depreciation curve, Fox-bodies are already headed up. The SN95 is a significant improvement over the Fox in every way except the controversial styling (which I happen to like) and the limited power of the 4.6L 2V engine. The 4V engined models are never going to get into the "cheap" category, so that leaves figuring out how to make power with the 2V.

    I love this engine, mine is built with a hellion kit and made 535whp at 14lbs of boost on a mustang dyno. I'm estimating 630whp on a dynojet. These engines also make better torque than the 4 valve engines.

    Fun fact: Ford does not have an actual verified production number for the amount of 2v engines manufactured. They have Precise data on how many and which vehicles had the 2v installed, and they have precise data for how many 4.6 blocks were used, but they do not have a fully accurate number for how many 2v engines they actually made.
