- FULL BOOSTED RESULTS. SHORTY & LONG-TUBE HEADERS, TB, BLOWER PULLEY AND COMP XE262AH CAMS. THE SHM 4.6L 2V TEST MOTOR WAS GIVEN THIS SERIES OF BOLT-ON MODS, INCLUDING BOOST FROM THE FORD RACING SUPERCHARGER. BEFORE THAT, WE TESTED SHORTY AND LONG-TUBE HEADERS, THEN AFTER THE BLOWER, SWAPPED ON A LARGER THROTTLE BODY, CHANGED THE BLOWER PULLEY THEN ADDED THE COMP CAMS.

Love these comparisons of low budget builds. Not for the rich peoples but for the budget minded.
That's why I watch Richards channel. There is so much information, for all price ranges. And the most valuable, is his knowledge and experience what he shares. He literally wrote the books on this subject, and shares it. Love the guy!
@@ifgezroxy I wouldn't say the the 4.6 is the a very budget friendly motor i mean them kooks headers are like 1,300 bucks. This is coming from someone that owns a 2v 4.6 Twin Turbo Crown Vic. The 4.6 alone yea, the mods no. A lot of people are for sure starting to figure out what the 4.6 can really do tho.
That’s why you should be building stuff with an ls, the power they can create for hardly any money is undeniable, my blue oval pride told me not to give in to the urge to enjoy Chevy too, but now I’m turbo 5.3 swapping my 86 notchback, and couldn’t be happier with the “future proof” of these Chevy engines, they’re easily able to handle much more power than what I initially throw at it, and can be built for relatively cheap!
@@RegulerShowTV I never was a huge fan of any of the 72 and newer blue ovals. Up until 2018 moosetangs, the performance from off the floor stock had not been up to par. But yea the Lego adult world says a lsx turbo in any ford is the way to go now. I want an old 49 deluxe with a twin 72mm 4.8 and t56 trans.
@@Chillvein they can be pretty budget now. I can pickup a PI 4.6L for $150 bucks at the wreckers for the long block
Thank you for this one...
some of us got 2v/3v 4.6..
all of us can’t afford a 5.0 swap... 👌
Just do an LS swap make it better
Hey, your car will always sound WAY better than any Coyote!
I've never understood why Ford people think that those newer model Mustang sound good they sound just like a farm truck with no mufflers
@@bradhaliburton5974 pretty much all these new pony cars sound like skinny jean wearing grandchildren of mucle cars..lol Cant beat the 2v sound tho..
I have to say that one of the best sounding engines is a 4.6 4V with just an X pipe. Something about the combination just sounds great.
I'm a simple man I see a 2V engine video and I have to hit the like button
I see any mod motor video and I drop a like
I watched this video with a big smile. The final setup is very similar to my setup. I have the FRPP SVO blower (9 psi), a 90MM Lightning MAF, 70MM throttle body, Comp XE270AH Cams w/Ported PI heads, Longtubes, catted H-pipe, 4.10 gears, Snow Performance water/meth injection. Biggest issue I have is IATs even with water methanol. The car pulls like crazy on a cool day though. Huge difference from stock. I have had the car almost 21 years. It is a 2000 GT. I might have gone with a different cam and gears but those were added to the car long before I got the blower. Thanks for this video. I have not had a complete dyno just yet. Tried but there was a problem with the dyno once we thought we had the tune right. More to follow.
Has any of these modifications affected the reliability of it?
Not sure if you were directing your question at me. However, I will say that it has taken some serious tuning and elbow grease to get the car to perform up to my standards. The torque is unreal and it pulls even in 5th gear. I did have to replace the coupler on the supercharger recently. That was not a difficult task at all. I have not had a recent dyno and I don't really like to guess but if I had to ... I would say the car is around 430-450hp
Hey Richard, I just want to let you know that your hard work in producing these videos is very much appreciated, the time it takes to assemble and disassemble various engines and conducting comprehensive tests to determine the specific outcomes is a time consuming arduous task and not only that part but then taking the time to video record your efforts and then produce these interesting videos is amazing. On top of that you are doing this for our benefit while we sit at our leisure enjoying your hard work. Anyone giving you a thumbs down on your work should be ashamed as they have no idea of the effort you put into producing fantastic content. Thanks so much! John
looks to me like he did this run in 2004 according to the dates on the files in his pc, he is just putting that info out there now for everyone to see.
This video was needed for a lot of New edge mustang owners
Hi Richard,I can say I had that M90 blower 15yrs ago with VT Stage 3 cams and it was fun.I really regret selling it.This video made me smile. Thanks Chris.
Every build should be done exactly like this beautiful presentation!
This is the benchmark.
Nothing sounds meaner than a 4.6 with good exhaust!
Love it. I just bought a 98 Lincoln town car. Always loved them, smooth, sharp clean car. Don’t want or expect it to be the fastest car on the road. But love having big comfortable classy sharp looking car with some attitude/ power. And I’ll be working on it little by little. This video really helps me get an idea of what to expect out of my 4.6 2v. Thank you !
My favorite format - one step at a time!
Absolutely the best I seen on this engine it's great and there's lots of them
That supercharger looks really compact and easy to install.
I love this installment! Great combo of upgrades. Thanks!
These "improvements" are allowing the performance increase if the original component is causing a restriction in the first place... your videos are helpful to see the results and options.
Thank you
I really love these step by step tests!
Damn I need this for my crown vic!!!!!!
Always love watching your very informative videos. Please keep them up!
So glad I found this been searching everywhere to see if short tube or long tube was the way to go. And from this why would anyone buy short tube. Thank you a very awesome video.
Glad I could help!
I am besides myself happy that you got one of these rare blowers. I have a couple and they are probably my favorite. Yes they have alot of issues but I love how once its installed, you cant tell the car has a supercharger when looking at it unless you know them.
Fantastic video, man...
And I'm impressed with the power results
Fabulous work Richard
I'd love to see a cam shoot out for the 4.6 2v and maybe a budget boost build. Like a coyote rod, a budget piston either aftermarket or sourced from another 4.6/5.4 to see what you can do with one of these on a budget and where and what breaks at what level.
I love these engines. I own a turbo '98 mustang gt. Fav car ever.
That's a pretty slick kit. The area under the curve goes up hugely
Would make a real good street car setup. I could see that being fun in something like an IRS swapped foxbody, but I’m a handling guy more than an all out power guy.
PAUSED AT 1:50: Dude. DUDE! Where were you when I installed this on my 97GT fifteen years ago. WOW. What a BLAST. Will keep watching - thanks for this!
Thanks man I been looking for a video like this for a while
Another great video. I appreciate the 1-piece at a time changes and corresponding dyno tests. What would be nice to see would be the difference between a stock PI motor, and just swapping the heads out for the Trick Flow heads still using the stock everything else. All I see is the Trick Flow heads and a cam swap at the same time. A slightly more aggressive cam than the stock PI cam can on a stock PI motor give around a 30 HP increase on its own.
Everything I needed to know before proceeding to rebuild my 97 f150 with the 4.6l 2 valve.
I love you show so many engines love, I'm even looking forward to your rb25 video so I might sell my rb parts. I'm super looking forward to this video as I own a 09 Vic and one day it will need more power
Very informative! I will be ordering my long tubes immediately !!
I got a 4.6 2v in my explorer, I been thinking about this. Cheers for all the hard work mate.
I just bought an explorer with the same engine. Im in the same page as you, bro. I've been looking and looking for that supercharger
@@Dkzdrood cool as man. So your on the ford explorer Australia page on fb or the america . Good to know we think alike. But that blower im trying to even find a part number or actual manufacture. Having no luck either
@lyonnous bro i just posted on explorer page we on. Pics of these chargers an where to find em an info. Friend me on fb bro. I couldnt find u on the page
Enjoyed the comparisons
Your videos are always great
Good stuff. I may very well make the same changes along with the cam upgrade. Great video, thanks!
Just started checking your videos out and killer man thanks for your motor wisdom.
I love 4.6s. Keep the awesome videos coming. :)
I kinda have a sweetspot for the 4.6mod motor. Esp in a crown vic.
Grand Marquis as well. A cheap Town Car.
This. Just bought an 03 LX Sport, and it's begging for more power.
Thx fir all your work which allows us to make are minds up an which way we should go
happy to help
Thanks Richard I own a 2002 mustang gt and was wondering what I could do to wake it up but you answered all my questions 😎
Thank you I've been looking for performance out of my old tired Lincoln Town Car and this seems to be the ticket... Without getting too crazy.
Great Video.. Thanks
Finally a good 4.6 2v Dyno test.
Love these videos!!!!!
Thank you so much richard! For this comparisons! Im a mod motor guy from the day i bought my 98gt 11years ago! Had the chance to try different setup and blown multiple bloc!
I would like sone conparison betwin intakes! Pi vs bullitt vs vic jr vs trick flow! I had a pi and now run. Bullitt and it feal so much more healty right now!
Great street performance!
Great video guys!
This is a good what if video if you just wanted to wake up an engine you already have.
I’m here for the shorty vs long tubes 👍🏽
I love these videos. It brings back a lot of nostalgia of my time hot rodding Cobras and Lightnings and hanging out with friends who had GTs, Cobras, and Lightnings also. Then the fun races against F-bodies and Corvettes. Dodge didn't have much to compete at the time, so it was Ford vs. Chevy at the local dragstrip.
Love these videos 👍
How does this video not have 10billion views
Thank you. This is the info we all need and want
If I did this stuff to my 2valve it would be fine?
You’re the best! I always wanted to see this exact build play out. Thank you! I willingly to buy the used supercharger off you!! Plz!
This was awesome! I'd love to see an all out 2v, maybe with dyno videos???
Dude you are literally reading our minds these last few weeks! We LITERALLY have our '01 Mustang GT going on the chassis dyno next week with a VERY similar setup! Thanks for yet another great video and all the research/homework you do! Should be interesting to see how ours runs on the rollers versus yours on the engine dyno. Great content as always Sir!
Where did you find the supercharger?
@@martygriggs1755 it actually came on a blown up motor brought to us in a blown up Mustang. But it'll have a new life now!
@@LucoreAuto hey if you still have it can I have a part number for that supercharger

230,000 miles and still counting on my gt😀
@@brandonburr4900 Man! That warms my heart! Thanks Brandon!
This was a cool episode
Great information man thanks a lot
Brilliant test to watch. Love these tests. Keep them coming. Hey, could you do a comparison using say a 327-350 CID motor with a dual-plane RPM Performer airgap using either Holley Sniper or 750 but try some different 1-inch four-hole spacers like the Hamburgers, Wilsons, Airaids helix, Jet, HVH Street sweeper and the Taylor Cable helix 4 hole spacers??? Be interested to see what difference these dirrerent types of spacer to as I am wanting to run a 1 inch four hole spacer using my new Sniper on a dual plane manifold V8.
Perfect set up for a stock bottom end 2v tho even though you’ll run into a lot of heat soak issues with the m90
Thanks for the vid.
Great choice for testing
amazing video.. Thank you
Awesome video!
Cool video. I drive a Lincoln TC. I love it. Iv never seen my tach and over 3000 before. Maybe one day ill turn off the traction control and do some burnout's.
For a truck owner who wishes they would have got the 5.4, the long tube header, throttle body and blower would be a good combo. +97 HP and +58lb-ft would probably eliminate feelings of "I could have had a 5.4!". Especially if you had one of the low power 4.6s like around 230HP.
Thank you Rich...
I'm putting a 4.6 2v in a 99 Ranger XLT and wasn't going to TEAR it apart before I did but when you said, The cams could be off from the factory I instantly changed my mind.. Wasn't hard I really wanted in there anyways LOL
Thanks. I'm thinking of taking my 2000 Grand Marquis and making it...
Better. Heads, camshaft, manifold, headers, dual exhaust - a sleeper for cross country travel...
In style.
Hey richard! Great bolt one but i wish you had done all the bolt on one by one before installing the supercharger! For those who want to stay n/a or dont have money for supercharger heat soaker !
More 4.6 2v content plzz!!🤓🤓🤓
I love this guy.
This could still be a fun daily driven combo in a New Edge to this day. Geared right it would get good mileage and have enough pop to merge on the highway and from light to light.
Ported heads, ported blower, and water/methanol injection help. Pulley I had was 9-10lbs with no slippage. I think Roxanne shepherd was running 12-15lbs.
Had a ‘98 non-pi back in the day. What a turd. Had decent torque though and sounded great.
Adding the PI heads on a non-PI motor gives it higher compression than a stock PI motor, because of the flat top pistons.
Cool engine great vid
Yay u did it!!! Nice!!! Thx man I want to do this to my 4.6
Loved comparing these results with your diy m90 5.3 results.
Really wonder why the 5.3 with stock pulley didnt put down same as the 4.6 though. I wounder how much better the ford racing m90 is vs the stock gm 3.8
Man a lot of work .. and the fastefi
Please do a 6.2 Ford. Love watching your videos
Holy cow, cam timing off 8-9 degrees between banks!
Ive got a 97 GT would like to bump it up a little bit, love comparisons like this where it's not a $50k+ car with $20k+ in mods
Great explanation and good video, what I don't understand is that if you have to change injectors, sensors and ECU. Thanks
we did change injectors-we use a stand alone ecu (not factory)
Also guys, a little research shows the Eaton M90 is also what they put on Grand Prix GTPs and such, and the M112 is what they put on Terminator Cobras.
Richard, I love these videos and watch every single one. I do have one issue, I crank the volume of my phone all the way up but if there’s any background noise I can’t hear what your saying. Could you message around with the gain any?
great loved all of it ty
Love these videos! Especially the "other guys" I would really like to see a modular V10! I had one in a excursion I put a y pipe with a Banks tuner and Intake. It really woke it up, and then I had 4.30s installed. It had no business being as fast as it was. Made me wonder what could be done with cams and forced induction.
The Y pipes were huge restrictions for the excursions & super dutys. It gave that V-10 that weird pinging exhaust note. Fun fact the econoline vans didn't have that same Y pipe for the V-10, thats y they sounded so much better. On the Excursions I thought they all came with 4:30 rear ends? Or was that an option?
@@BrownBomber92181 3.73s were standard. I'm note sure that there was an "upcharge" for 4.30s. But yes I definitely had 3.73s. At about a 100k miles I started hearing what sounded like a bad universal joint. Turned out to be a bad bearing in the rear end. That's when I asked what gears were in it and they confirmed they were 3.73s. And I asked for yukon 4.30s. I am very neurotic about my rpms when I'm driving, so I pay alot of attention them. Based on my before and after rpm calculations, it seems to confirm they were 3.73s. I now have an 05 6.0 excursion and it has 3.73s as well. Probably the worst financial mistake I've ever made lol. I should've kept the v10
Deserves a sub. 🍻
My 2V on 12lbs with comp cams runs very good. Holding together so far. The 2V gets a lot of hate but I love mine.
any updates bro? im planning on supercharging my 2v and i would like to know if its a good idea, thanks
@@friendzoning I sold it but it held together fine. I kept the revs low (under 6200 rpm) and had a conservative tune. Keep it 400-450wh on low boost and you will be fine.
What kind of supercharger did you use? Centrifugal or positive displacement?

This is an awesome test. Have you played around with the Saleen m90 kits to see how an intercooled setup differs in power?
Back when I had my 97 pi swapped and fullbolt on 97 cougar I WISHED I had that sc but I settled for a 125 dryshot..only ever ran a best mid 13 second 1/4mile..lol.. my 04 mini SMOKES IT
I'd love to see a budget turbo 4.6 4v build. As I am swapping one into a 59' Ford Station wagon
Thanks Richard! Anyone have the old part number for the Ford Racing M90 supercharger kit?
I keep reading that the FRPP/SVO blowers were M112 superchargers, not the M90. There seems to be a few sources that say otherwise but after looking at the rotors and length of the case, its definitely longer than the M90 case/rotor pack.
Good job! Wondering about the adjustable snow kit?
Awesome!!
Great job as always! thank! What do you think about installing an increased throttle on naturally aspirated engines? for example, there are two throttle bodys, one 80 and the other 100mm, both of which are sufficient for the motor under investigation so as not to restrict the flow. will there be a difference in power at full or partial load? what will be the difference? how to understand that a given throttle does not give resistance at the inlet? for example the head has 300cfm, 4 cylinder motor. What should be the ratio of the air flow through the port and through the throttle? I don't know if I translated it correctly, I hope the question is clear :)
I'm going to put this same setup on my 99 Ford F-150 4.6 it's going to be fun to pull my lawn care trailer it already is stock
Great video, but.... why oh why did they pull that thing apart and put forged piston in it and leave the stock Achilles heel rods in it???
I enjoy watching your comparison videos very enlightening. Lets see a bunch of different brands of headers on a stock and then modified engine like this for example . use some name brands and some ebay cheapy headers.
