What a great way to end this years season! Can’t believe it’s been 3 years since ya started. Even in college I’m still watching you. If your reading this, all I want to say is, thank you for these kinds of videos, and I can’t wait to see what you have in store for next year.
I agree The cat in the hat is not guilty and I think that he should return to the parade as a new balloon even if it's only for one year, but that probably won't happen because of this accident. My thoughts on this season: overall I think this is probably one of the best seasons of Macy's balloons I've ever seen! Pros: all the character choices that we've been suggesting for years like sonic the hedgehog, Kermit the frog, Mickey Mouse, and Woody woodpecker, I also like the personalized Outros for each episode Cons: not too big of a fan of the new format where you talk about how many years the balloon is in the parade and then show all the videos as I often lose track of what years the video clips are showing, maybe for season 4 you could return to season 2 format. Other than that this is been a great season and I cannot wait for season 4 hopefully you'll do more characters like Linus the lionhearted, Donald duck, and underdog and I will see you next year!
I believe the Cat is not completely to blame for the incident. As it was pointed out many times, the weather was bad, leading to the parade being called "The Great Balloon Massacre", as some of the balloons had to be destroyed due to either damage or being out of control. As for why the Cat was pulled, it was indeed because of the incident. After the 1997 parade, the incident was on the news, as the woman was put in a coma for a whole month (and she sued them in 2001 for the incident). Basically, they banned the character to avoid getting into more controversy because it was the balloon involved in said incident (and I think Dr. Seuss' estate may have also played a role in the character's ban, as they felt after the incident, they did not want the character appearing in future parades to avoid any damage to the goodwill of the character, who is treated as the mascot of Dr. Seuss' book line). So, the Cat, while guilty, is not the sole culprit. Mother Nature is also to blame, as the high wind gust was causing problems with some of the balloons (with the handlers having trouble with some of them). And yes, I do agree the Cat In The Hat will never come back as a balloon, mainly to avoid being insensitive to those injured by the incident, as well as any negative backlash that news channels like Fox News and CNN will give Macy's. And TBH, I can't really blame the NYPD and city officials for the incident, because as you said, they thought the winds were dying down, and they didn't know they were get worst. I mean, they may be officials and law enforcement, but like each and every one of us, they are still human, and as such, they are prone to making mistakes like this. But I will end this by telling everyone that when it is all said and done, this incident would become a learning experience for both Macy's and the city of New York City. They could've easily banned all balloons after the incident, but instead, they made the safety measures so that the balloons can continue to fly and ensure this never happened again (that is, until the 2005 incident with the M&M's balloon added more safety measures, like grounding all balloons if the winds are above a certain speed). In closing, I want to tell everyone that yes, these sort of things will happen. However, incidents like these could be used to learn from mistakes that may be fatal or near-fatal and think how to fix them so such an incident never happens again. Because it should not take more than one incident like with The Cat In The Hat balloon in 1997 before someone decides it's time to rethink how things are done to protect the citizens, the ones who shouldn't be put in comas, or even killed, by a parade balloon. But at least the 1997 balloon parade had one good scene: that purple monstrosity Barney being stabbed to death by the NYPD. As a Barney hater, that never fails to make me smile.
Gotta say, dude, this episode was fantastic. Loved the super unique way this episode felt with the whole detective theme, and lots of interesting facts that even I wasn’t aware of were mentioned (especially that lawsuit o_O). All the hype that’s been building up to this episode ever since Season 1 made this episode definitely worth it. Great finale, and I hope you have a Happy Thanksgiving and enjoy the parade on Thursday ;)
