My favorite giant Mickey Mouse giant balloon? I would say it would be a tie between the 2nd and 3rd Mickeys. The 2nd Mickey Mouse Ballon was during my own childhood, it flew to the Mickey Mouse March, and he looked so huggable. I was really sad when he no longer appeared in the parade. For all those 18 years I was ACHING to see another Mickey balloon in Macy's Parade. Then, in the year 2000, I was supremely thrilled to see Mickey come back. And his comeback balloon appearance was the most perfect ever as a bandleader. After all, Bandleader Mickey is as famous as, say, Sorcerer Mickey. And I now have a stuffed toy replica of Bandleader Mickey, straight out of Macy's, in my vast plushie collection. PS: I also collect inflatable toys of Mickey Mouse, and they're precious jewels of mine.

Fun fact: mickey was supposed to appear in 1983 but during inflation his arm was accidentally ripped off and he later exploded, 22 years later in 2005 he was disposed of. R.I.P mickey 2, 1971-2005

actually the mickey balloon didn't have the 1975 and 1981 incidents but 1978 mickey's ear was bent for some reason ,the 1982 one happened and in 1983... you won't believe what the workers done to mickey....... THEY EXPLODE HIM UP!!!!!!!!
FOR kermit in 1985 a tree ripped his stomach ,in 1991 his head was ripped once again by a tree
and in 2004 the winds pushed him to the crowd but the workers push him back

According to another video I saw, Disney did get to use two Macy's balloons for personal use. One was Buzz Lightyear, which was used during a D23 Expo. The other was Santa Goofy, which they had floating at Hollywood Studios for a while during the holidays. Other than that, this was an interesting video! I hope to see Mickey return in the parade next year for his 90th birthday. It would be cool if they made him wearing a birthday hat or had him blowing a party blower or something like that.
Also, like one person suggested, I'd love to see a video about the history of the Christmas parade. I watch it every year on Christmas morning. :)

Wow! Thanks for another great episode, Dan. I loved that Sailor Mick quite a bit. Always appreciate a good Miami Vice reference, too. That 1971 Mickey was soooooo 1971 with that shirt! I hope they one day have a Paul Rudish variant. That would be amazing! Maybe they'll do it to promote the upcoming ride at Epcot. By the way, I was thinking an episode about the rise of the churro at the parks could be really interesting. They seem to be such a big part of the park experience, and yet I don't remember them from when I went. Granted, that was thirty years ago at this point. Best. Hope your Thanksgiving was amazing.

The second mickey balloon was retired after 1983. The reason he did not appear in the 1983 parade was because he exploded during inflation.

When Walt Disney and Tony Sarg teamed up in 1934, it was the Goodyear Tire And Rubber Company that made the first two Mickey balloons.In the 1975 parade, heavy downpours and strong winds caused several of the balloons to get punctured.Mickey made the finish line in Herald Sqaure that year and was completely intact.Should be noted that the 2nd verison of Mickey was slated to fly in the 1983 event, but on inflation eve that night, Mickey's arm exploded due to being over inflated.It was because of that he was unable to fly and was quickly grounded.

Even if my parents had the money to go to Disneyland,it can wait. Like, FOREVER! You guys will never believe what my mom told me just a few minutes ago. The Disneyland cast is actually taking kids away from their parents and loaning them to adults who possibly can do bad things to them. So, I ain't being savage or anything like that but screw Disneyland.

Hey, if you ever wanted to do a sequel to this video, here's an idea for you: The Craziest Moments in the Disney Parks Parades. You could include stuff like Alan Thicke's duet with the Ninja Turtles in the 1990 parade, all the times Herbie tried to mess with the mechanics, Bear from the Big Blue House doing the cha cha cha with the visibly nervous kids in the 2002 parade, Santa's elves taking on the Harlem Globetrotters in the 1997 parade (actually, most of the '97 parade could make that list), the antics of the Whose Line cast in the 2000 parade but not really a parade, and in light of his recent passing, a whole slue of clips of Regis doing ridiculous things. It would be easy to do too since Sam's Video Diary has posted all the parades online now, and no doubt you'd make the video insanely fun in the process.
One of the marching bands in the parade is actually like 20 miles or something away from me
