I remember when my family came across the talking Mickey for the first time, we were all so shocked that he could talk lol. My mom even said “Mickey you can talk?” And he said “of course I can!!!!” It was so freaking cool, it makes me sad that the talking Mickey isn’t at Disney world anymore.

I find it interesting how they kept the 50's eyebrow design for so long. It's not my favorite look for his head, but it's definitely iconic.

I love the Kingdom Hearts outfit Mickey has had for some promotional events. Donald and Goofy too. I wish we could meet those more often.

Geez I remember seeing Dream Along With Mickey show for the first time and my eyes just bugged out of my head in astonishment at how GOOD they looked. My (then infant) daughter gets to have a childhood in a world where Mickey Mouse can actually talk to her. Well...it was wonderful while it lasted.

Hopefully there will come a day when you can actually talk to Mickey without all the dialogue being prerecorded. Maybe if they installed something inside the costume that allowed the performer inside the costume to talk and alter their voice to sound like Mickey himself
You could do that they can only say so much. I am sure their are rules on what Mickey could say.
@@scruffydog2 that wouldn’t be a problem. The performers would just have to learn to be like the face characters. They can only say the things those characters would say. It’s called staying in character

I've seen the Snow White debut and "horror face Mickey" costumes before (I take sadistic delight in pulling up the 1949 costumes to show friends who have never seen that nightmare before), but I've never seen the vaudeville ones before! They're actually quite charming! Definitely only meant to be seen on a stage, and not super up close, but they're not completely terrifying!
Edit: Oops, commented before the end of the video. Could you possibly talk about Three Musketeers Mickey? Do Mickey, Donald, and Goofy's musketeer outfits only exist in the international parks, or have they been seen in California/Florida? I have such a soft spot for that movie, it'd be great to know where I have a chance to see that costume!
Also, this might be a video all to itself, but did you know Tokyo Disney has a different themed Halloween celebration each year? It's so fun seeing what they do and what Mickey and friends are wearing each year! My favorite was Mysterious Masquerade!

My little brother (4) met Mickey in 2020, he was 3. He paused there, then he slowly walked, with a slight hunch and his arms extended towards Mickey, then he ran and hugged him :))
The kingdom hearts costume he got to wear once! Donald and Goofy have ones too and were seen in them a little more than mickey. I think they even had the Donald and Goofy one in a Disney Fairytale Wedding event.

I had no idea there was ever a talking Mickey in the parks. I bet it would be tricky trying to figure out what to say on the spot when playing the most iconic character representing a wholesome brand. Not being able to say anything is much easier, but if they bring it back I will definitely have to go!
The "Big Head" era is low-key one of my favorite eras. Each era has at least some continuity from the last, but the big head is a black sheep. It entered and exited the DIStory books on rash decisions. The previous one was normal height, and based on the one before it. * Big change ->now they're tiny and can't interact. The one after it was back to normal height. I just enjoy how hard a turn they took to get to the big head, and did another hard turn to escape it. Not before nor since has disney taken so hard a turn from one era to another. And yet Big Head did it twice.
Let's just hope the 1955 Mickey looked way better in colour.

Wow, I NEVER knew all this. Incredible video. If my mother, who loves Mickey to death, ever see the talking Mickey, I guarantee she will be in tears, and I probably would, too. I'm sad they stopped that wonderful thing! If only Walt Disney himself managed to live into the 1980s or '90s, he would've been so happy seeing his own creation becoming more realistic and accurate to the way he made Mickey...

Absolutely love Mickey's Phantom outfit he wears for meet & greets outside Phantom Manor in Paris there's a lot going on there and it's really great to see even at a distance/walking past the meet & greet area to get on the ride
Happy 50th DIStory episode! These are always such a joy, and an almost half hour deep dive into Mickey Mouse has made my day today. I can't wait to see what other DIStory deep dives are coming
A Fun fact is that sometimes the person who was inside the talking Mickey was Bret Iwan so that is why the interaction was more real
Bret Iwan was likely doing the voice from outside the costume. He’s about 6’2” which is way too tall to fit in any of the modern Mickey Mouse costumes. But yes I read that fact too he did the voice in the park sometimes.
Finally after 4 years of waiting until a remastered mickey mouse costume evolution finally my dreams come true oh boy back 2017 the first DIStory video was mickey mouse and now were 2021 that means is time for remaster video DIStory

Sorcerer Mickey is one of my favorites, saw Mickey in that costume 20 years ago in the Disneyland parade they had at the time❤️❤️❤️

Actually, a full episode of #SneakySpeakyMickeySecrets is a WONDERFUL idea 💡! I really wanted to know how Mickey actually talked and blinked his eyes 👀. Also, do you know if the costumes have cooling systems now? Because I keep hearing that it gets hot in the costumes, especially at summer time and I really feel so sorry for the cast members who wear them and have to work in them. So, even though you can't make Mickey talk again, at least make the costume cool the cast member down.

Hopefully they learned from their mistake after that Dumbo performer puked out through the costume's trunk.
My favorite version of Mickey Mouse is the phantom manor versions in Disneyland Paris. He has a dapper version but also a more casual version. It’s so unique and I love his dapper top hat !
Imagine if Walt Disney World decide to bring back the 1978's Mickey Mouse custume or maybe the 1987's for a limited time and for a special celebration (Is possible because the Mickey Mouse 70's head custume of that time steal exist)

Talking Mickey looks so cool. It's a real shame they got rid of him. It made the Mickey meet and greet more like meeting the face characters. It brought the character more to life. Too bad I never got to see it.

I love Mickey's 90th birthday celebration outfit, with the confetti pattern and the white capris.
Even when you remade the first episode of DIStory, I may be a big fan of the modern cartoon-accurate redo of Mickey but I still am into the excited expression of the 1987-2016 look that we've been used to. Same said for the Minnie Mouse in the Parks.

Magic happens Mickey was an amazing outfit and color combination that is criminally underrated
I never got to meet talking Mickey, but whenever I met Mickey, they were all magical experiences because he welcomed me with open arms and it was a dream come true meeting the character that got me through some tough times! My favorite Mickey Mouse outfits include his last outfit from the 'Disney Sing Along Songs - Beach Party at Walt Disney World' video, sparkly Sorcerer Mickey, the Disney World 50th anniversary outfit, his gold suit for the 'Mickey's 90th Spectacular' special on ABC, his Avengers outfit (with the shirt and cap), and Steamboat Willie (non black and white) because I'm basic. But really, he has too many wonderful costumes to choose from.

My favorite Mickey look was the Tomorrowland space suit from the opening of Space Mountain at Disney World in the 1970's.

I really would love to meet the talking Mickey Mouse. I thought it would be cool to actually talk to a costumed character. Just makes the experience meeting your favorite cartoon character feel more real. It’s cool that Bret Iwan was sometimes the man behind the mirror doing the Meet and Greets.

So far has to be the Brave Little Tailor outfit on the original DL Fantasmic and the WDW Fantasmic! His golden outfit for Spectro Magic and the sparkly version for the Main Street Electrical Parade would be great to see your opinion Dan.

I’d like to give a shout-out to the Mickey Mouse puppet that was in “Disney Junior Live On Stage.” Very well crafted, beautiful puppet that had blinking eyes. All Disney Junior Live puppets were built by Animax Designs.

18:38 I have a Mickey & Minnie mascot costume just like that, that I found on eBay in 2021.
I’m gonna preface this by saying I never worked with any of the articulated heads, and it’s been years since I worked there, but. In training we were told, essentially that the articulated heads were too expensive and time consuming to fix when they broke. A head would usually take 2-3 days, an articulated head would be about a week. So they’re saved for special events and shows
