- I needed an awning for my tiny vintage camper, and couldn't afford a custom one, so I decided to make one myself.

Thank you for this, I think it's the only video on line showing how to actually sew an awning! I plan to tackle this project. Yours looks fantastic!
You're welcome. It really wasn't difficult at all.
Nice job
Thanks!
It looks beautiful, especially all done and set up by the river aka creek ( depending on what part of the country you live in) I live in RV park with a creek AKA river in NV and as I type this, I am looking at my creek and I too plan to be sitting in the water amongst the rock in the next few days during this heat wave we are going to experience... I plan on making an awning or two also, so after seeing the prettiest vintage awnings on face book, I am glad to find your video and I have watched the sailrite video you mentioned.
Thanks!
So adorable and that campground looks inviting too! 👍
Thanks!
Great Job Doreen! That looks great! You learned from others and then passed your experience on to us! Thank you.
Thanks! I'm very happy with it.
That is so very nice. Well done
Thanks. It helps a lot with shade.
Very talented!! Great job!
Thanks Brenda!
Great awning. Have a great week.
Thanks, you too!
You did a great job and your camper is adorable!
Thank you so much!
Awesome job on the awning. Got a lot of ideas for my Tab teardrop. Thank you.
Glad you liked it! I plan to make some awnings for the front and back windows, like some of the t@b owners have.
Very nice job on the awning!
Thanks! Thanks for watching 👍
You did a beautiful job! I'm buying a 1968 skyline and I'm planning on making an awning for it. I'm so excited!
Best of luck! It was nowhere near as hard as I thought it would be to make one.
I think you did an amazing job! It looks great! What a great site too!
Thank you so much! The creek was great, but there was a main road on the other side of. At least the sound of the water blocked out most of the traffic noise.
You did a great job. It turned out great!
Thank you! 😊
This has been fun to watch. Great job on the entire camper
Thanks Scott!
Doreen you done a great job it looks awesome! Stay safe 🙏💙
Thank you! You too!
looks great i think you covered all the things i was wondering about great video
Glad it was helpful! It wasn't hard to make at all.
Great Job 👍
Thanks! 👍
This was very helpfull for when I'm gonna sew one:) thank you!
Your camper is very cute!
Glad it was helpful! It was really easy to do!
My father has one of these cadets. I can’t wait to start renovating it. Given me some great ideas!
Is he in the USA? I don't know of too many still in use.
@@CampingTherapy Canada. He’s pulled the original liner out already, and replaced all the exterior lighting with LEDs. The rear window has a crack, but it’s other wise good. Needs about the same amount of TLC yours has received
@@Baffi_ here's a playlist for my remodel, from the day I bought it. 1987 Cadet Camper Trailer Niewiadów N126 Remodel: czcams.com/play/PLhOK0Pwx6rib5wNyjraIJNPGTehahVi6o.html
You did a FANTASTIC job!!! You could probably take orders and sell those. Awesome!
Thank you! 😊
Very good video, thanks.
Thanks for watching. I just made awnings for the front and back windows tonight.
I wish you could have shown us how you attached to the grommets and then attached it to your camper, great video though thank you
Thanks. The awning rail was already on my camper. The awning just slides in. The grommets were done with a little kit that my friend has. It took about 5 minutes. Sorry, but I don't have video of that.
So cute
Thank you!
Awesome job, it looks great! What a beautiful spot! Thanks for sharing >Sue
Thanks for watching! Very nice spot, but I reserved a different one for next year, that has more shade.
That is an absolutely fabulous rig it just pops with the awning! I am curious how it is attached to the camper and stored between use.
Thanks! There is a metal rail that goes from the bottom of the camper, up the sides, and across the top, down to the other bottom corner. In Europe, they use a lot of screen rooms, and over there, that's what they call an awning. They call this a canopy in the UK. My brother cut out a section of the rail, at the top left corner, so I could insert the awning tube there, instead of all the way at the bottom.
We just bought a 65 little chief and I want to do the same thing!
It was really easy!
Looks great!
Now if I'd have tried to do that,
😳
It was really pretty simple once I figured out the scallops part. Thanks for watching.
Thanks so much for the video! Super helpful! Do you have poles that connect horizontally from the gromet to the trailer or are the sides of the awning free flowing with no side support? Thanks again! Cute camper!
The poles are only the ones that you see on the front corners, from the awning to the ground. Thanks for watching!
Looks great. Awesome. Thanks for the info.
Do you remove the awning for travel or roll it up somehow?
It slides in a rail, and I have to remove it each time. Thanks for watching
You did an excellent job. It's very nice looking, too. In a week and a half I'll be moving into my newly purchased 2000 camper trailer. It needs a new awning. And right away I knew I would want to make my own homemade awning. I want to pick something in the design that is just perfect for me. When I looked on you tube yours is the only video I found so far on how to make your own...every other one they show how to replace it with premade awnings.
One question...I think I would get camping weatherproof/ waterproofing spray to spray the whole awning....did you do that with yours?
Thanks for posting this. I'm going to subscribe and be on the lookout for more of your videos.
Tammy from Wisconsin
I did spray mine, because it's not waterproof fabric. I angle my tent poles when it's raining, so there's a dip in the center, and the water runs off. Otherwise , it would puddle, and go through the fabric.
Thanks for subscribing!
@@CampingTherapy Right, that makes sense!
Thanks!
You did a great job !! Was wondering how rail is attached to camper ?
Thanks! The rail was already on there, from when it was originally made. It is screwed in.
@@CampingTherapy OK . Thanks for getting back to me so quick. I have an older Casita and was not fond of the idea of drilling holes.
This is remarkable! I am so impressed! All-in, how much do you think this project cost you?
I don't remember exactly. Maybe $100? Maybe less. I also had enough fabric to do window awnings, which is in a different video. I think the fabric was $70.
H- this makes it look very do-able! I have an '86 Serro Scotty and the track is 89" long. How do I figure out how much fabric to purchase if I want to do the valance? thanks!! Susan
Do you mean the valance hanging from the awning? My awning is just short of 5x7. You would add the 5' two time, to 7' once. Allow for extra, for seams.
What is the color on your camper, its so pretty
Thanks! It was a custom mix, to match the cabinet paint, but turned out more green than aqua. I still love it!
About to attempt. Thanks for the vid
Good luck! It's not hard at all.
Very Cool ! Wish I had your talents and patience. I just posted a video of a small camper that has an awning 🙃
I will check it out!
This is awesome honey it came out good .... love it u should make and sell
I don't think I want to. Fabric is expensive, and I don't want to ruin someone's purchase. Thanks for the compliment though!
@@CampingTherapy true as well ..... I would make some if you had fabric That was better pricing and then see if people want to buy them but I understand as well over here we have a thrift shop that sells fabric that are good for super cheap which is a good thing as well but not all the prints are cute
@@FindingHappinessInAllYouDo I used "outdoor fabric" because it's water resistant. My supplies alone for this were about $100, not including labor involved.
