    Apologize for the noob question but, out of curiosity, why wasn't Gary attacking with the flying Thopters in game 2? They could've flown under the bridge, but still be unblockable, right?

    • @BlackoutKami
      @BlackoutKami Před 4 lety +2

      Whilst the Thopters can still attack (Gary has one card in hand), the Delvers have flipped into Insectile Aberration which has flying. Ensnaring Bridge only stops creatures attacking, not blocking so the 3/2's would block the 1/1s. Hope this has helped.

    Question, do we know if he tried casting the spells into chalice to try to trick Gary into letting it resolve, or if it was an honest mistake (a lot of stress obviously happens and they have a lot going on in their heads)? I know their are things in place for misrepresenting game state and etc, but it just seems scummy if he did that on purpose.

    • @voltiethegamer
      @voltiethegamer Před 6 lety

      At Comp Rel and up (this was Pro Rel), you are not required to remember your own triggers. It is not scummy or cheating to cast a spell your opponent's Chalice would counter, just good play because what if they miss it? Obviously, casting spells into your OWN Chalice would be Cheating, which is drastically different. Basically, wasn't a mistake, also wasn't scummy.

    • @colgatelampinen2501
      @colgatelampinen2501 Před 6 lety

      You are not required to remember your own triggers, but not remembering your own chalice would be cheating? You are contradicting yourself.

    • @voltiethegamer
      @voltiethegamer Před 6 lety +1

      Colgate Lampinen sorry that was a typo. You are not required to remind your opponent of their triggers, but ignoring your own intentionally is cheating.

    • @jacobarnold3459
      @jacobarnold3459 Před 6 lety +2

      If it was mtgo, you can't forget. Game rules says it should happen. It shouldn't be "if he forgets and I get to resolve it because he forgets...". It seems scummy to play into a chalice on the off chance he forgets to get a win. Even if it's not against the rules, anyone who does that at any level of play knowingly (forgetting the chalice on accident is reasonable, but if you know it SHOULD be countered and hope it doesn't) then you lose my respect as a human being. It's like breaking a law because it's only illegal if you get caught.

    • @voltiethegamer
      @voltiethegamer Před 6 lety

      Jacob Arnold you should definitely not leave fnm and move up to comp rel and pro rel then because you're in for a world of hurt. Mtgo doesn't allow you to forget because it would slow everything down irreparably if you had to click yes I want to remember this trigger every time something wants to resolve. Also, by entering a comp rel event it is assumed you have a basic understanding of the magic tournament rules, which dictate that it is the responsibility of the players to remember their own things and avoid making mistakes. If your opponent forgets to attack you when you're tapped out with no creatures to block are you going to remind them to attack you and take damage? People make mistakes and better players should be allowed to capitalise because they've put in the effort NOT to make mistakes. If your opponent registers 27 basic lands in their 40 card limited deck at a GP are you going to fan out their deck before the start of game 1 and fix it for them? It's no different.

    The Trinisphere that came down at the 29:00 minute mark does that negate his chalice? Chalice is set to one, but everything costs three now so shouldn't his opponent be able to play his one drops now since they cost three? Or does the official casting cost stay one even though it is costing three mana? Anyone know how that works for sure? P

    • @MrJerichoPumpkin
      @MrJerichoPumpkin Před 6 lety +1

      not a judge, so I can't be sure, but I think Trinisphere does not change the converted mana cost, only the amount of mana you have to pay, just like any other cost reduction/increase effect (Thalia, Goblin Warchief, etc.)

    • @jackiesingleton2351
      @jackiesingleton2351 Před 6 lety

      Marco Della Torre,,,, It seems that is true because later in the match when his opponent tried to play a lightning bolt he pointed to the chalice and it went to the graveyard with no effect, I think. P

    • @jacobarnold3459
      @jacobarnold3459 Před 6 lety +1

      Chalice only considers the converted mana cost, and Trinisphere only adds an additional cost. Trinisphere is worded differently than other things that make spells cost more (Thalia, Guardian of Thraben for example). The CMC is still one even if you end up paying 3. It's commonly confused because of the way the sphere is worded.

      I believe he did a mistake in forcing the rabblemaster. among pyro, angler, and delvers in the worse case... he had a lot of answers for it. force instead was the only one against blood moon and 1 of the 2 against chalice (grudge being the 2nd) so he should have saved it. that being said, that match looked so bad for delver that anything he may have done he would have probably lost anyways. blood moon, chalice, trinisphere and ensnaring bridge all in multiple copies are just way 2 much to manage for grixis delver. this prison deck was quite bad and subject to several disjointed and bad draws in general compared to the blue based brainstorm/ponder decks... but it was the perfect meta call. in fact he should have not made it to the finals had his opponent in the semis played properly with his steel stompy deck but he gave him instead a free win in g2 with a terrible blunder so good on the old man

  • @evilsanta3078
    @evilsanta3078 Před 6 lety +1

    How is Kowalski able to even declare a target with Lighting Bolt with the intention of seeing if Campbell "remembers" his Chalice is on 1? Isn't this against the rules and something a judge would point out if Campbell did in fact not see the line? Chalice isn't a may ability...

    • @awkward_canuck
      @awkward_canuck Před 6 lety +1

      EvilSanta it's a triggered ability that goes on the stack, and yes you can forget it.
      The chalice triggers when a spell of the correct cmc is placed on the stack, it then attempts to counter that spell. Meaning casting a lightning bolt into a chalice on "1" and declaring a target is a correct play. It just gets cpunter when the chalice trigger resolves.

    • @Trolologram
