I love the sound of the sky train when it takes off!

With these Mk1 units, the Skytrain looks like a jumped-up version of the Detroit People Mover. That system uses the same trains but only in 2-car formations.

The Vancouver Skytrain will NOT be the same when Translink retires the Mark 1's in 2026!!!

Ain't I be happy when they retire them. They are so uncomfortable!

@@slam5 the trains are going sometime in 2023. The trains are built in 1983 so that would mark 40 years and thus time to retire them. They just need to hang on until the mark 5 can come in

@4:12 I can actually hear some type of E-brake activating on the train
And why was there a lot of Mark 1’s in a 4-car format??

There are sensors along the tracks that detect if there are any people or large objects that are on the right-of-way. Whenever that happens, there is an alarm (like heard in the video) that sounds and any SkyTrain nearby immediately stops. This is a safety feature to prevent any accidents (collisions) from happening on the system. The Canada Line has the same feature as well, except the alarm is replaced with an announcement.
