Yelling at my screen, "No I don't see the cheap wood, only dazzled by how beautiful they are!" I truly believe that any guests you have in the apartment will only be amazed at how beautiful the wood and craftsmanship is. They would have to be true woodworking experts to notice the criticisms you have of your own work. The background music was very enjoyable and the perfect volume. Hello to your banker who is one lucky woman!!

Love all of your different videos. Love the woodworking and cabin videos. I'm looking forward to the pond videos. You have it all; woodworking, restoration, building, off grid, pond, electrical and so much more. It really shows what you can do with research and taking advice from more experienced people. You're passing the things you've figured out and learned.

Those are qualities of a craftsman but when I see you run your hand over the piece of wood, then I really know that you are a creator and craftsman. @@50Acres I almost didn't GET that education. I was in highschool back in the 70s and my grandparents who raised me wouldn't ALLOW me to take Wood Shop in school. They forced me to take Home Ec and typing instead because they were more "sensible" for a girl. I was going to take Home Ec ANYWAY, but I STUNK at typing (dyslexia).
I finely got my training in the late 80s when we hit a rough patch (he was laid off) and one of us had to take training of some kind to get assistance. It worked out well since I got a much BETTER teacher than I would have in highschool, and the building maintenance course ALSO covered plumbing, electrical and heating & air.

My husband took computer programming there in his last 2 years of highschool.

You are such a talented woodworker dare I say Master Woodworker. I know years of experience has gone into it. And I know what it is to be hard on oneself for making a mistake like your bookmatched rails, but truly, it isn't for a client that is paying thousand of dollars for cabinet fronts. I know it will bother you because you are a perfectionist, but you need to let it go. No one would have noticed if you did not bring it to our attention, because it was the creation in your mind and only you knew what the outcome would be. I am sorry that it was not exactly to your liking, but try to let it go. Overall, it is beautiful work and one you should be very proud of. A bit of advice, don't bring attention to the mistake you made to anyone in the future. Let them enjoy the beauty of the beautiful work you did as is. Again, you are such a perfectionist and you do master work.
In the future, why don't you try using tape with an numeric/alpha system to help bring attention to your detail as I know you struggle with that. That way you can always be able to tell which side is which. LIke 1.A, 1.B that way you know it is the first door rail piece, and number all your styles and rails 1-4 and the side which is A or B. I think it would keep you more organized. I hope that makes sense. Again, love your artistry!

Beautiful, wouldn't expect anything less. That being said, seems to be a lot of work for a rental...

Yea, I got carried away, hopefully it justifies a higher rate. It will be a short term rental so it's a different type of abuse.

I find the benefit of water popping or grain-popping varies by species.

Ah good point, and possibly finish type? I always use an oil mix, and perhaps that doesn't raise the wood grain.

I’ve found the water step doesn’t make much difference on maple. Other species it might be more important. The doors came out fantastic!

The cabinets came out awesome and love the maple wood. Nice to see the progress of the studio.
It was really cool to see the vacuum system at work while you were cutting all the wood dust and shaving free.😀
I saw you built and installed the frames Did I miss the link for the doors and drawers being installed?

I wet down the wood and resand if I'm using water-based finish. My thinking is that for shellac or oil-based finish, it doesn't matter. But this is one of those "rules" that is easy to test yourself and decide if it helps or not.

    • @50Acres
      @50Acres  Před rokem

Thats a good point, and probably correct, I use oil based finish almost exclusively.

  • @warriorwoodworking5136

Production cabinet shop I worked in did not use the water pop method. I believe it is a more recent technique.

living in the Netherlands (yes, that's in Europe and no, it's not the capital of Denmark), I wonder what makes these cabinets 'European'? To me the doors look like shaker style with the inset panel. Cabinet doors that I see in European houses always seem to have a single flat surface. The inlaid panel makes for extra dust to collect on the bottom rim, so they've been optimised away I think.

Yea that’s true, the only thing that would make them European is the lack of a face frame on the carcass. I just changed the title because the video isnt getting views.
