Many places not-on-the-coast in the northeast have basements for similar reasons (deep ground is averaged to a more comfortable temp in the summer and winter, basically 55F by default).

Shout out to Laramie Wyoming. Check out medicine bow peak in the snowy range. Right outside of Laramie.
Better yet the WInd River range in Wyoming. Great scenery and great for backpacking.

Actually, the wind river range is pretty well known even outside of Wyoming if you're a pretty serious backpacker. Its considered one of the very best backpacking areas in America.
