Man! I've followed Dr Peterson for a couple of years now, but this is one of the best and most profound and powerful things I have heard him saying.
It is powerful. To see the reality that we are in by not beautifying or vilifying it. We've been heavily brainwashed by the world, specifically, by our own minds.

Spot on. This is how ideologies work, and one can also add that power and (public) positions is given by the people in power to other evel people.
This is what's been happening in the Netherlands for quite a while and some other European countries...and it will only get worse.

I've always walked around with the mentality that since I exist I have some effect, no matter how small, on any given outcome. Therefore everything is my fault or because of nme good or bad. I have to take some responsibility for things even if they have nothing to do with me personally since i have some kind of effect on the world. It's a huge burden honestly to even think that way and it's exhausting but it's truth.
In addition to reading Gulag Archipelago I suggest watching movie "Son of Saul". Those both take you to very similar mental place.

Then 2000 years later Existentialism comes along and says that you should also take as much responsibility for yourself and your life as you possibly can... Stoicism says to take responsibility for what you control, and accept the lack of external control.... Daoism says you should take responsibility at the root of your being, your family unit... Seems we need to be honest and take responsibility for ourselves and our times, good luck to us all

@Psyche Matters I’m interested in psychology but I want to know what books I should read? I have no idea where to start.
Read something difficult. You will not understand it for sure. But you must start asking questions and try to answer them. Then read something less difficult, and there you will understand a small fraction of what you did not understand from the first book.
For example: Read Jung. He is tremendously hard and terrifying as Peterson says. Then go search about Jung on the internet. Then Read Freud. He is less complicated than Jung. But you will understand some of what you don't understand from Jung. And then what you don't understand from Freud you can understand from reading someone else.
Just start reading anything you can. Watching videos also helps a lot. Remind that philosophy and psychology are closely related.

Yes, there is the abridged version that shortens the three volumes and packs them into one. And i suspect the english translation might be a bit shorter than the russian original, too. The original russian language set of three books is 2048 pages all together (amzn.to/2IfEUvI).
Solzh (in Russian it sounds as to lie)completed the order and wrote a lot of lies.There were lies on every page of that book.And it is strange to compare his book(fairy tale) with Frankle's one.
Great talk man. Just as you love standing up to what is right and true, I need to tell you the truth plainly. You'r brilliant mind is not a prerequisite for coming to an understanding, especially God's intended meaning, as to why Christ died, and what it means for Christ to have taken the world's sin upon himself. Scriptural truth is revealed to 'little children'. A baby can understand the Gospel. Christ took the world's sin upon Himself in that God the Father punished all our sin in His Son. God must punish sin. It was either punished in Christ, or we will suffer for it one day. If you seek Him with a humble heart, repent of your sin and turn to Christ, then you will be saved. That's all there is to it. But you have to look outside yourself.
Hey Reynardt, first of all with that name I'm pretty sure you're South African. I am too actually. If not, well that's unfortunate ;) I thought long and hard about what Jordan was trying to say here about Christ, because I agree with you wholeheartedly! The message of the Gospel is clear and straightforward and I believe it for a long time in my life now. But since God is so much more than what we can ever understand and what He chooses to reveal to us, I think there might be a lot more different examples/metaphors in the Cross than just the ones we know. For instance the four Gospels Matt, Mark, Luke and John are full of metaphors with many different meanings. I actually understand what Jordan is trying to say by saying that in part it's the realization of complete humanity. Let's take Jesus out of the example since we clearly know why He did it. But I think Jordan means also, that as a human being, let's say me and you, if we take up our cross in life, live with purpose and responsibility and kindness to others. We will automatically be carrying someone else's cross as well. For if the opposite happen and we are mean, irresponsible and lazy, we would have titled the world (people our daily lives reach) for the worst. If we are mean other people will be mean. But if we carry our own cross, we will be good to others, and no evil will spread, ultimately carrying their cross as well. Okay, that's just my interpretation of it. Brain breaker but I get it.
Yes brother in this one I didn't agree with him cuz I believe Jesus the son of Living God is really taken all the sins of the world in Himself but He didn't believe that he says it's just an idea it's like He put doubt in people's mind about the resurrected Christ..

People tend to believe the notion of "God" is a person or entity. Also, that the "devil" is bad and "God" is good. In my own personal opinion, I don't think that God and the Devil are people but that they are essentially who you are, which is you, a human. That "God" and the "Devil" are you. It is the duality of man. You are capable of "good" which is in light of God that shines through you (a good virtuous faithful path) but when you commit acts of "evil" or "bad" acts, that is the light of "evil" or the devil, in which you are acting in a negative, vain manner that is the opposite of the "good" path (God). It is more of a realization that God and the Devil are you and you can choose how to act. It is either The Devil in You or The God in You. The positive and the negative. Just my thoughts.

It depends on which self you are talking about. The only way to see myself in that position is one i which I don't really exist at all. I am the sum of my experiences, they make and define me. This current version of myself could never do those things. Even if faced with certain death if I refused to cooporate I could never be that person, I would choose death. For myself to be capable of that I would have to be raised and live in a completely different environment and completely new experieneces and thus it wouldn't be me anymore more like a clone that has my DNA. Never underestimate the influence one's environment has on their development and the actualy person they are. The people who decided to be Nazi's, and continue to do so today do so because of their environment and the reality they exist in and experience. If we ever discover a scientific breakthrough that allows another person to truly experience and understand your reality it would one of the greatest inventions of all time and drastically alter the course of hummanity similar to the printing press, the phone and the internet.

The fact is that you can't understand Jesus as an "idea". It is not an idea, it is very personal, it is meeting a person. Your analysis is very good, the social consequences of a bad choice are very important in understanding the human nature. But yes, it is very complicated. Jesus is God and He does what nobody would expect from God. Nobody can understand God indeed, but ultimately He is showing that the love of God for us is immensely great and that He can win all the human fears and bring us the truth and the life forever.

It's hard for me to say that about such a brilliant person. But I think one aspect is wrong. If an individual becomes aware of the collective mistake, he cannot change it. Because many people tried during the Nazi era. From the simple priest who swapped places with a civilian to be executed in order to save him, to the Nazis themselves who tried to kill Hitler at the end in order to save their own skin by ending the war early.
Once such a fundamentally wrong meme as being superior to other races has spread in society, something extreme must happen to these people. It has to be so extreme that it causes the vast majority of people involved to simultaneously re-evaluate this meme as false. No "normal" individual in society can achieve this with their actions. A lost war with the fall of the 3rd Reich was necessary for this.
This necessary simultaneity of changing the meme cannot be achieved by individuals with small actions. Because even if they get some people in their environment to distance themselves from the meme, it will spread to other people faster than it can be stopped.
The only thing that could help would be to create an even stronger meme to replace the wrong one. But deliberately creating this is intellectually extremely difficult and only a few people in history have been able to do this.
One of the very few people I can think of is Jesus, who was able to do this at his time. He managed to invent the idea of peaceful coexistence, which was a new meme (idea) in his day and led to salvation. Which led to the formation of a new world religion.
Since only very few people are capable of doing this, a system as wrong as the Nazis unfortunately has to be run through to the bitter end in order to make most people aware of it as a system doomed to failure.
Talks sense this guy, but do you really expect someone who quotes from the 1st testament to be taken seriously.
His whole spiel in the Biblical Lectures is where to find deep meaning within scripture. I'm not sure where I stand on God and the afterlife, and I never appreciated church as a child, and to this day I don't believe the bible should be an obstacle to a better world. But hidden within the fabric of our culture, from a dark, unenlightened age, are words that resonate and continue to be relevant, and timeless truths about humanity and the structure of life. That's just my take on it though

I disagree with his claim that if you can’t see “you” in the Nazi guard you don’t know who are. We are not the same. Psychology perpetuates this myth that we are all the same and we are not. This is why there were Nazi guards, and then there were others who were helping people to escape.
I think you may need to look deeper to understand how it is we are all the same, Lisa.
Nazis or not, majority were Nazis only a few weren't. Yes we aren't all the same but majority of us are, especially in that time period without the internet. Take away some variables from the present and you'd be someone completely different
Of course majority of the Germans were not really as evil as the Nazis, but they all had a hand in the creation of Nazis. If you interview average Germans before and after the Nazi regime were in power, surely none would believe concentration camps like the ones they build could possibly exist in their country. We all have this potential or tendency to sin... and once we're all a slippery slope, who knows how quickly and far we can slide. All can sin and fall way short of glory of God. Be mindful of what we're capable of..., then perhaps we can try to avoid deviating from the target too much... But of course people don't really learn nor are they willing to admit how wrong or bad they can be. See the election of Donald Trump. Let's just hope Trump isn't as evil as Hitler. Now if you find my comment offensive, for sure President Hillary won't do much good for America either. Both candidates fall way short of the mark IMHO... and they are the products of the American people. Scary, huh?
