Point was, the Drs. and nurses keep their sh!t together and take care of those depending on them in emergencies and have an emotional breakdown afterward if they need that release. Been there, done that more than once. Even when a dementia patient tried to drown me in his bath water his safety took priority over mine. Multiple tornado vortexes dipping out of the clouds around the hospital? Patients safety secured long before our own. We were EXPECTED to place the safety of those unable to secure their own before ours. No exceptions. No excuses.

The way she feels is so understandable, she's a hero. Now just imagine the medical examiner that has to do autopsy on all 19 kids. My heart breaks for them and all.

@@debbiesims138 Why? There is a roster of every student in every class. The parents can easily identify their child regardless of the extent of the wounds, ie by the clothing they wore to school that day.
She's a very compassionate doctor who is probably doing her job to the best of her abilities. She's not a "hero." A hero is a person who puts their own life at risk to save the life of another. Over using that word degrades the meaning and importance of it.
She is both doctor and possibly a mother, you can imagine how heartbroken and sad she was facing and treating those poor kids😭

Yes and she probably went home and hugged her kids after this (if she has any). I cannot imagine how horrible it must be as a parent to see something like this or to even have it happen to your children.

Any female 12 or older could qualify as "possibly a mother." I don't understand why that'd make her sadder than anyone else. Maybe it'd make her more empathetic, but if her child-ren wasn't apart of it and if she hadn't had a familial, platonic or romantic relationship with anyone that was in a similar situation I can't comprehend why she'd be more sad than anyone else.
She's very compassionate. Thank God there are people like this who basically give up their lives to study, learn and be capable and responsible for saving lives. What would we do without them?

This doctor has had probably one of the most traumatic moments/days of her life. You can see in her face how exhausted and emotional she is and has been. She's done at least a couple of media interviews and each one seems so hard for her to discuss when asked how she and her team are doing.
That is because talking is letting her vent the true feelings instead of covering them up to do her WORK.

When I was around five years old, a friend of mine died in a backyard accident. That was over 65 years ago, and I still think of him many many times throughout the year. I absolutely agree,and it’s about money and power for the politicians themselves.
Even a mentally disturbed person will be more reluctant to go right up to their victim and attack them with a knife or club than they would to stand yards away and open fire with a gun, especially if they just want to 'kill people'. You don't get many mass murders and massacres where a hand weapon was used. Victims can run, or fight back. It's easier and more impersonal with a gun, especially an assault rifle.
It's about mental health suffering people having a ridiculous easy access to assault rifles, ammo, and magazines. In Europe we don't have mass school shootings because an 18 year old kid cannot get into a shop and get out in an AR-15 rifle.
In Europe they probably have 5 times as many mental facilities then the U.S..

It’s bad enough for adults to witness extreme injuries and death, but for those kids who survived, they’ve literally been to hell and back. ☹️
The mental scars will stay with them for the rest of their lives unfortunately. They will live the rest of their lives every day bearing the utterly painful memory that their fellow friends and classmates were slaughtered like that.
The US really needs to step up and take action for gun control and better mental health services now.
Especially considering it all happened in one room. Can't imagine what psychological problems every one of the survivors who were there in that same room have to face.

I've been a nurse for 20 years and over those years I've seen some incredibly difficult cases that have given me some pretty thick skin, especially after having worked on a covid unit for the last 2 years, but I can't even begin to imagine how hard it must be to see the slaughter of elementary school students.
We're good at holding in our emotions no matter what comes through the doors but we're not robots and this could even break through the thickest of skin.

And also better mental health support services. The children who survived, the parents, and these doctors would bear the mental scars of this utterly tragic event for the rest of their lives, especially the children who had to see the terrible sight of their fellow classmates and friends being brutally slaughtered like that.
Without good mental health support systems, violence would only beget more violence in the long run, violence is a vicious cycle.

I’ve seen her do a couple interviews and her demeanor is the exact same. She is posed, pleasant and informative but you can easily tell she is traumatized and heartbroken. Fighting back tears to answer. Salute to this woman. I cannot imagine what she is feeling. God bless all involved. My heart truly breaks

I've been an EMT/nurse for 35 years. The main cause of injury is stupidity. Fixing stupid shit people do to themselves and others is the job description, and never a surprise. You just complete the task in front of you, then the next, then go home when someone relieves you.
My prayers go out to everyone in American! This poor doctor is so emotionally drained just like everyone else. I don’t even live in Texas and I’m emotionally affected cuz this is so sad and embarrassing cuz nothing is being done about it.

Im just at the start of the video and you can hear how broken Dr. Liao is, I couldn't imagine having to operate on these victims and being able to keep it together.
She's a real hero. It's really just her and the parents on this one. But I can't get enough of her. How strong do you have to be, to become a pediatric trauma surgeon? That's got to be incredibly rough. She's just amazing.

Her reply was..."I'm doing great" while she's clearly crying and extremely distraught 😢 I cannot imagine how these trauma Doctors are able to perform emergency surgeries on anyone and especially beautiful innocent children 😢 💔 There are humans just like everyone else and really hope they too can get some on going trauma therapy for this is heart shattering 💔

I’m betting if this were occurring at legislatures and courthouses instead of schools they’d find solutions pretty quickly.
They readily act on anything that offends them. When they thought there were bad books out there, they had regular book burning throughout the country. The sure were able to organize when it came to 'don't say gay' - they react when they think it will benefit their power.

My son and daughter in law were killed in a home invasion while their 2 children were in their beds. Their mom's head was blown off. We all have PTSD from that episode of our lives. I was told by their phycologist not to ask them questions about the event. She told me they would process it and they would begin to talk about it on their own. She told me when they would express how much they missed their parents to just listen and say "I miss them too" and this event has so sadly affected me.

I think PTSD is overlooked in the medical field. I have seen so many traumatic deaths of all ages. Trying to keep it together to do your job is so hard. I pray for all the hospital staff and community.

We could have been talking about twenty-six dead were it not for the fact that that surgeon was able to intervene to save the five lives now in her care. And as we witness the viceral grief of the parents whose children were not able to make it to an operating room with enough reserve to be saved, this surgeon's parents must be so proud of their daughter.
Her humanity (and skills) prevented five families from experiencing the excruciating sorrow tied to the traumatic loss of a loved one.
What does it say about our country when there needs to be a “best practices” program in place when there is a mass slaughter of children? Pretty effing sad.

not everyone who likes guns, is a "sick" person, not everyone who likes guns, doesn't think we need more restriction, higher age limits, background checks and mental health evaluations.
Putting everyone collectively together does nothing, we need to talk about putting these restrictions in place instead of arguing to outright ban them or not. Almost all school shooters are mentally ill kids, not people hunting, carrying for protection, or people who have a couple guns for recreation.
