I bought this padlock recently on ebay and thought it'd be fun to do an out-the-box pick of it. Little did I know that it would be one of the least secure padlocks I have ever come across!
That is one beautiful patina and padlock. I see many have had issues like this and hope you get it sorted so you can get it working again. Cheers D 🍻✌🏻🌶
Had an era big 6 like this, levers seized together in correct position so that any wire or tensioner would open. Needed plenty of lube and pushing some levers up while pushing others down through shackle hole to separate them, took some doing.
Another dangerously fast pick, hope you get it sorted, whoever sold it probably had no idea of the problem as to them it would appear to be working. Keep us informed
If you. Have a micrometer, measure the bolt throw step, the pin size should be about 4.75mm and the height of the bolt throw step including the pin about 12.28mm, if it is much shorter it may not be throwing far enough, if it is the right height, suspect gummed up levers
We got a picking video.... just not the one we expected. When you fix it, note that the end of your tension tool, not the upright the tip of the horizontal bar. It has to be short as it would probably pick up the bolt, instead it will pick up the last lever. 🙂👍
I have a Squire you can open with just a tensioner as the lever pack is stuck in the open position. Also you may not be completely throwing the bolt hence why the key doesn’t work to lock it back up.
I had this exact same problem. The shackle had bent down the 'stop plate' and that was preventing the full movement of the bolt, I made a video on it 😃 With a bit of jiggery-pokery I reckon you could fix it ? Cheers Dmac, see you on Picking Time 👍 ❤️ 👍 🍻🍻🍻 PS edit see videos: #191 and #192
Such a shame that it never came up yo your expectations. PS, I guess you already know this, but if that blade locks in place, then it's not UK legal to be carried around outside without a really really good reason. 😊
Hello m8 I have seen that before i had one the key has been left in the lock in the Open position for a very long time and its been left and when someone's found it again they have turned it and locked it up took the key out and the leavers have seized up still in the open position only 1 lever working I have seen that m8 before in the weird world of lever locks 👍🇦🇺🔏🔓🔒🔐 8:568:56
Wow that is very unusual.
A look inside is indicated 😀
Great out of the box Pick !!!
🐈⬛🐾🐈🐾🍻
Time to get the grinding wheel out! 😆👍🏻

It was the patina that made me decide to buy it. Oh well, I should be able to fix it (one way or another!)

That certainly does deserve to be looked into, sad that it opens so easily it's a beautiful lock.
It really is a beauty with that patina. Such a shame 😭😁
Gut it!!!😝🤷🏼😜. Lets have a look! Hope ya decided to explore and share with the class😉. Great out of the package pick anyhow🤪🤣
I'll try a soak in diesel to see if that helps, otherwise it's grinder time! 😆👍🏻

Cheers mate. I'll get it working one way or another 😁👍🏻

Thanks Roy 😁👍🏻
I think the levers might be stuck together in the unlocked position, think the rivets are going to have to come off 😂
The dremmel is calling! 😁👍🏻
I😁
🤣🤣🤣well it looks the part😂
Think you will definitely have to peek inside this one mate🙂👍🐝🐝
For sure. I've been wanting to open up a lever padlock anyway so this gives me a reason to do it 😁👍🏻
Lever pack seized in the open position? Thanks for sharing and have a great weekend.
Cheers. Will be trying a diesel bath first 😁👍🏻

The diesel bath awaits! 😆👍🏻
Could also be that the bolt throw step on the key is too short and not throwing the bolt far enough to allow the levers to clear/drop
Thanks for all the info. I'll look into it 😎👍🏻

Awesome, will check those out, thanks 😎👍🏻
Before opening it, maybe give it a spray inside with some degreaser. It may just be gummed up.
Indeed. Will try a diesel bath first 😎👍🏻
That’s why we don’t use those types of locks anymore…😂
They're still very much in use. Not in the U.S though 😁👍🏻
Magic tensioner? lol 😂
Cutaway would look great!!

Yeah, thanks. This knife stays st home 😎👍🏻
