I borrowed a recipe from Americas Test Kitchen to make some of the best most flavorful and creamy chicken and dumplings that I have ever had. This is from scratch and it's all well worth it. This will be my go to chicken and dumplings recipe for now on. Well worth the work. List of ingredients below.

5lbs bone in chicken thighs
4 tsp vegetable oil
3 Tbls real butter
4 carrots peeled and sliced 1/4 inch thick
