I’ve seen this episode so many times but this is the first time I noticed Homer flipping Lisa’s hair when he puts his arm around her. I love finding little details like that. 🙂
Man most comedies would have had homer getting increasingly angry as he keeps going on about various rejections, but the way he just nonchalantly tells Lisa is hilarious, and actually quite cool that he never let these rejections bother him lmao.
He's just a simple guy that can be happy with simple things and his personality gets him places because he can charm people into things. He's not very different from Joey Tribbiani. Some people like Grimes will hate him but for the most part he wins hearts, like with the power plant building contest for children.

This is one of the few times Lisa should have listened to Homer, not Marge. Lisa should have just lied to save herself the trouble. She's in an unwinnable situation anyways: if she tells Ralph outright she doesn't like him, she's the bad guy for hurting his feelings. If she lets him down easy but he keeps pursuing, it's her fault for not being firm enough.

A classic. From the golden age of simpsons. This episode in itself is a masterpiece. Not just because it has one of my favorite Simpsons songs, the lesser known Presidents.
I don’t like Marge’s response, because Lisa tells us she doesn’t like him. Instead Marge says to not tell him that and to tell him “she’s not ready for a relationship” and everyone in Springfield knows Ralph is slow, and so in my opinion this would make him think that maybe she does like him but they’re to young. It’s best to just be honest and break a heart in the beginning than let it grow and shatter it into more pieces later on. Surprisingly Homer is giving out better advise than Marge in this situation, but that should mame sense since Homer has probably dealt with rejection and prefers to be rejected with a straight answer that does not need to be decrypted.
I think it’s better to say a straight no because “I’m not ready” sounds like to a Male “come back when I AM ready” so it insinuates there’s a chance. A straight up ‘no I do not like you’ is better for a slow boy like Ralph, he’s not dangerous so she doesn’t need to mince words.
