  • We spent a full day exploring Iceland's breathtaking Snæfellsnes Peninsula from Reykjavík. Sometimes called "Iceland in Miniature" this chunk of Iceland is a quick way to sample all the amazing sights this country has to offer from glacial mountains, to roaring waterfalls, to soaring ocean cliffs, and ancient volcanos! This area really packs in the sights.
Our road trip started at the stunning Kirkjufell Mountain beautifully paired with the nearby Kirkjufellsfoss waterfall. It is easy to see why this is Icelands most photographed mountain! From there we climbed to the top of an ancient volcano at Saxhóll Crater before driving through the lava fields to see the coast at Djúpalónssandur beach. This impressive black sand beach was quite a relaxing site with the soothing waves breaking on the jagged volcanic rocks. Our next stop was further down the coast to see the cliffs and towering rock formations at Lóndrangar.
By this time we had built up quite an appetite so we stopped by the town of Hellnar where we found the cutest tiny cafe built right into the cliffs overlooking gorgeous rock formations on the coast. The fish soup here at Fjöruhúsið café was our favorite meal of our whole trip! The warm soup, cozy setting, and striking views made for a perfect break!
After lunch we continued our day wondering some of the trails between Hellnar and Arnarstapi taking in more of the wonderful coastline and gravity defying stone arches such as Gatklettur. At this point it started pouring on us so we had to quickly get back to the car and move on to our next stop, Bjarnarfoss. Due to the rain we decided to just see this giant waterfall from the car. But even from the car, it was an impressive sight cascading down the cliff face. Our last stop before heading back to Reykjavik was the unique Gerðuberg Cliffs. These perfectly geometrical basalt column cliffs seem to extend on forever, standing guard over the immense windswept landscape.

Definitely one of my favourite areas of Iceland 🇮🇸 Visited this area twice during my 4 visits and is definitely a place I’d highly recommend people to visit.

Wow! I can definitely see why. There's no other place on earth with the jaw dropping landscapes of Iceland! It's just unreal to take it all in!

Hey, is the entire road from Reykjavik paved? Or are parts of it gravel roads? Thanks in advance!

What’s your favorite bands from Iceland? Bjork and Of Monsters and Men are mine.
It’s such a unique, beautiful and off beat place, so the art seems to reflect a bit of that eccentricity.

Great part of Iceland but hard to watch “tubers” constantly whining about rain. Come on it’s Iceland it rains.
