MORE AMAZINGNESS of ICELAND's SOUTH COAST - Road Trip Part 2: Vik to Hofn to Reykjavik

Nothing is like a road trip on the south coast of Iceland. Between Reykjavik to Hofn is non-stop amazing natural beauty around every turn. From giant glaciers to massive waterfalls to stunning black sand beaches this part of Iceland has it all. Driving along the coast was a great way to see tons of Iceland's natural beauty in a short time.
For our second day of our road trip, we continued our road trip along the south coast of Iceland from Vik towards Hofn taking in as many sites as we could. We started the day hiking in Skaftafell National Park to see the Skaftafellsjökull glacier and Svartifoss waterfall surrounded by stark black basalt columns. We had nearly the whole park to ourselves to take in this grand landscape. Our next stop was at the Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon to see the icebergs gracefully floating on the relaxing blue lagoon. From there we followed the icebergs as they went out sea and crash back on the black sand of Diamond Beach. The contrast of the bright white ice on the dark black sand was spectacular. We finished up our day in Hofn enjoying the delicious local specialty of langoustine or Icelandic lobster.
On our 3rd day of the road trip we set out from Hofn back to Reykjavik. We stopped to get the sites we skipped while it was raining on our first day of the trip. These included the fairytale like Fjaðrárgljúfur canyon, expansive views from Dyrhólaey Peninsula, a slowly disappearing glacier at Sólheimajökull, and a picture perfect waterfall at Skógafoss. We then made it back to Reykjavik after our unforgettable trip through this beautiful country.

Yes, we stayed at the Puffin Hotel in Vik. It was a lovely hotel and the little town is in a wonderful location so close to everything!

We used a few free gps yours from an app called Locatify SmartGuide. It was really nice to have some explanation while we drove through all the beautiful and surreal sights! Have fun on your trip! Iceland is such an amazing place!
